Sony PSP 3000 announced (Mic/Better screen) - Compare in Post #245 WOW

Hopefully it is introduced in ceramic white. It is time for something to compliment my Japanese launch unit, squishy square button and all.

Okay, fine. Laptops. Cell phones. Televisions. Cameras. MP3 players. Cars. Radios. Stereos. Refrigerators. Take your pick.

I'm sure you're enjoying your smug contribution to this thread, but when you get down to it your comparison to other markets isn't really particularly relevant here.

For example: maybe you might notice that constantly changing hardware specs are often considered a negative for many of these products, that people put up with due to a lack of options. Or that many successful companies go out of their way to limit this effect, like Apple who keep their product line steady for year-long periods and update them at a time people generally know well in advance. Or that this effect is often made up for by lower-featured models remaining on the market at lower prices to allow more options for the new purchaser. Or just that videogame consoles are different market than any of those other things (due to the presence of discrete hardware platforms, among many other factors) and that the expectations regarding hardware lifespan are very different amongst each of these fields due to the specifics of how each market operates.

Why does sony stick to the same fucked up D pad?

The D pad is fine with the slim's, dunno what you're whining about. The segmented part that's been with us since the psx?

I'm very, very happy with my phat unit, but this sounds so good, I'll wait for the CF for this and instabuy then, I love to have my PSP collection intact and LOVE the extended battery life and next to zero load times CF offers.

No built in harddrive, no buy.

Yeah this is really kind of puzzling to me. Seems like if they would have had one with build in hard drive, move all UMD games to PSN or have download stations at all major retailers it would be a much smarter move. I figured the 3000 model would be thier push for this.

$200 for PSP and a 4gb MS is a pretty damn good deal.

I wonder if there are any hardware revisions for the 3000 to prevent pandora/CFW.
I wonder if DA will release any tool for the recent TA-88v3 mobo that are pandoraproof before he checks what kind of mobo does the psp-3000 have.

Glad its coming out, should be able to buy a nice 2000+mAh slim battery now.

I already got my adapter for Skype coming so no need to upgrade.

New PSP, new PS3 bundle. Way to fucking piss off early adapters Sony.

What ? I am actually happy that Sony keeps bringing in new customers with new offerings. That way, people will write software for all of us... right ? RIGHT ?

*crickets*

I figure that most of that stuff will be left for the PSP2, rather than any further revisions of the current hardware.

Minor upgrade. It's about time they did something about the glare but that doesn't matter much as I never really use the PSP outside when I do use it.

Sony didn't have the balls to release GT5P in Europe on PSN the same day as the BD version and you're asking them to completely drop the UMD format?

PS3 early adopters no, psp early adopters yes.

I don't know what you are talking about, I am perfectly content with my PSP-1000.

The only thing that would irritate me is if they added 802.11g, but then I would run out and buy the new PSP model that had it.

So... "better" screen? If it's LED backlight it's going to get longer battery life automagically too, Interlaced TV out? anti glare screen? My 2000's USB charge is broken?

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck I'm going to lose my DMP2 save for the FOURTH FUCING TIME ;_;

thanks, but no thanks. i'm sticking to my launch psp's and ds' until the industry moves to OLED. i'm tired of subsidizing the LCD panel industry through their turmoils of 'this year's shit - sediment of last year's diarrhea.'
yeah me too.

i bet the people who 'upgraded' to the PSP-2000 are pissed.

Faster UMD loading, better d-pad & screen. Just saying that psp early adopters have a better reason to be pissed than ps3 early adopters is all.

Ok upgrade but I already have a PSP with the Star Ocean branding so I don't want to upgrade. Maybe if I can send it in for a replacement of the same type or a deep blue one. :lol

Custom firmware negates Faster UMD loading issues, the D pad can be modded, and I could see the argument with the screen. The PSP-1000 has a shitty screen that ghosts like crazy.

Of course, with that said, I still don't have any malice towards sony because they are doing what they should be doing. Cutting corners, getting smaller chipsets, and finding ways to keep the price at $170 so they can make more money. The PSP-1000 still has the best build quality, and I am reminded of that when I play my little brother's PSP-2000.

Yeah, if you look at who I was responding to you'd understand my post in the first place. I don't have any malice towards Sony either since those are improvements to an already impressive handheld. I'm not feeling any buyers remorse since I still use my PSP-1000 to this day. I'm actually looking forward to picking up a PSP-3000 in the near future.

You mean TA-088 v3? They patched the pre-ipl. Pandora is unusable on it. The PSP-3000 will have that mobo or perhaps even a newer one. Of course, there's always the possibility of another software exploit being found.

This. The S&L feels like a toy. A cheap plastic toy.

Exactly, the PSP-1000 may be heavier than the later models, but the plastic casing and the disc parts made it feel like it was a technical marvel. On the other hand, I was shocked when I played the PSP-2000 at first because it looked like a toy, and because it almost felt like a Chinese knock-off.

I'll probably buy a black one as soon as they get a Pandora working on it.

Seems like a pretty minor redesign all around, though.

The ONLY reason I'd be upset is if the mic starts getting used in lots of games like it is in DS games.

It wouldn't be that big of a deal, since you could get headsets for the earlier PSP models, too.

In fact, now that it's got a built-in microphone, I'm hoping that developers do start supporting this feature more. The main reason why I never got a headset for my PSP is the simple fact that none of the 40 games I own have any kind of microphone support.

What do you really need in order to pass from a 2000 to a 3000??

Old phat PSP i could understand but why would i change my 2000 really?

As someone who cannot stand the ghosting of the current PSP, IF - and it's a big IF - they are improving the screen as much as they say, that's instantly worth a purchase.

I am really a little annoyed here. I know hardware revisions are always in the cards, but I got my last one fucking eight or nine months ago. Give the public some room to breathe, damn it.

More then likely this is going to be using the newer PSP board which blocks Pandora (I would seriously :lol at Sony if it doesn't). Who knows when that board will be hacked (if at all).

I'm sticking with my 2000, I have no need to upgrade.

Primarily they eliminate ghosting (even the fastest LCDs on the market still have horrible ghosting with certain color transitions), they are also thinner and use less power.

It's hard to believe it cost wise though.
Also the screen is self light emitting so punchier colors and darker blacks (pixel not emitting light), where as with LCDs, the backlight will always wash out the colors blacks to some degree.

This isn't even a real new model, did you guys rush out the door to buy a 5000 series psone back in 1998 when all it did was change the outputs on the back ?

Unless the refresh rate/pixel shift is up to 16ms I don't care and actually very little runs at 60fps anyway so even that wouldn't get me to waste more money.

No, but I did go out and buy a GBASP+ when they were out.

That's a bit different though. Compared the the original GBA, the SP was a huge upgrade, this is more akin to the Micro (in that its not much of an improvement over the 2000).

Holy crap, what is the refresh rate on the PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 models if going to 16 ms is an improvement?

(I thought that all modern LCDs are 5-8ms)

Holy crap, Sony's gone through two hardware refreshes (or revisions) to Nintendo's one. I never thought I'd see the day.

In case some didn't notice that part of the press release. Because seriously, some of the comments in this thread. :/

That single "improvement" alone could be worth the $200 IMO.

really? unless I am playing in a park on the sunny afternoon I have never had a problem with my slim.. I doubt the 3000 will fair too much better in the same conditions. But even if it does it isn't worth another $200 for the PSP. imo.. Looks sexy tho

You'll buy it anyway.

MARCH SHEEP, MARCH.

Sony is taking notes from Nintendo!
.

I will probably not get one unless ... nah, I'm happy with my 2000... I think...

Actually, good point, they'll probably make this one unhackable, and PSP fats and 2000s will go on sale for 1000s of dollars. Fuck, I'll sell my 2000 and buy a 3000 and some good eats!

I'm talking about the SP+

It came out around when the Micro did and looked exactly like the SP, except the screen was now backlit instead of frontlit.
