Sony PSP 3000 announced (Mic/Better screen) - Compare in Post #245 WOW

really? unless I am playing in a park on the sunny afternoon I have never had a problem with my slim.. I doubt the 3000 will fair too much better in the same conditions. But even if it does it isn't worth another $200 for the PSP. imo.. Looks sexy tho

Yeah, I was hoping that the core pack would get price dropped to $150 with the announcement of the PSP-3000 model.

At this rate, the PSP-6000 will be released in 3 years and the damn thing will still be $170.

:(

I'm glad i waited on this. What's up with built-in GPS bitchin up in here?

Does the PSP 3000 have tv-out like PSP Slim has ya know playing games on your tv?

The Bitching is that the damn GPS was delayed until next year, when we were promised that it would be out by Christmas.

Yeah I"m just guessing at the terrible refresh rate but my actual television has an alleged refresh rate of 8ms and ghosting is minimal. My pc monitor has no noticeable ghosting but it's a 4 or 5 ms screen. Given this and experience with other handhelds I"d estimate the psp screen has a 24ms screen. 16ms is the highest you can go and still basically avoid ghosting at 60fps and the psp ghosts like crazy at that framerate, in fact depending on the game even 30fps and lower ghosts like a damn haunted mansion. Also, something about the ms stat listed on monitors is that it's kind of a blatant lie to the consumer , the time listed is for grey to grey going from white the black can take 2 or 3 times as long. So yeah, I still figure the psp screen is a 24ms grey to grey model with times as long as 50 or 60 ms for certain colors, red for example seems to ghost so bad it looks like color bleeding.

It's not the worst screen though, the gba sp + that's been mentioned in this thread has low pixel refresh AND a low hz refresh making anything that scrolls go super choppy.

Video-Out has also been enhanced, with the system now able to interlace for televisions that don't support a progressive output (that means non-HDTVs).

Interesting, here is hoping that the PSP screen is finally upgraded to 5ms like all modern LCD screens.

Where is that line from? is there anything about full screen output for games?

its funny that the same ppl who laughed at the late ps3 adopters who wanted BC are now whining even though their systems be it the old 80,60 or 20 are still the superior version of the ps3.

and as i said before, its a waste to upgrade from the 2000 to the 3000. is a built in microphone and most likely a slightly better screen worth another 200 bucks?

ビデオ出力機能を拡張しゲームのインターレース出力にも対応している

Edit: actually the Japanese says that the psp3k also outputs interlaced video for games. It doesn't make any claims about using it on different TVs. For reference, I directly quoted http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/08/20/psp-3000-features-enhanced-screen-and-built-in-microphone/

Thanks. Seems like there might be other features they didn't stress as much.

The first PSP had different screens. I remember Sharp and Samsung. Former being better in some sort of way.

As someone who cannot stand the ghosting of the current PSP, IF - and it's a big IF - they are improving the screen as much as they say, that's instantly worth a purchase.

Don't keep your hopes up because they didn't mention anything about improving the response speed. They only talked about colors and contrast. (wich will actually make the ghosting worse if they aren't improving the refresh speed...)

I'm personally prepared for the worse.

From watch.impress

応答速度もアップしており、ぶれの少ない描画が可能になった。

Translation:
The response time is increased, ghosting is probably reduced. :D

This is pretty huge.

1000 to 2000 was worth it for better d-pad, faster loads, better battery life, and tv-out

I am HOPING that 200 to 3000 isn't worth it, but I'm afraid that they are going to find a way to have new features only available for 3000 models, forcing me to upgrade.

Offering the highest-level contrast ratio, response time, and wider color gamut possible on a portable LCD screen, the new PSP is capable of displaying movies and photos in more natural and vibrant colors on its high resolution 4.3 inch wide screen.
Let's hope that SCEI isn't trying to say that current PSP is "highest level response time possible on a portable LCD"...

Sony = Apple in terms of annual redesigns.

It's annoying, really.
It's not annoying. It's great that the PSP is continually improving.
By the time I actually get around to buying one, it will probably have been improved from when I first thought about picking it up.

Isn't that the opposite?
I had thought a decreased response time is better.

I was planning on getting a new slim since my current psp fat has so many dead pixels, guess I'll wait for the 3000.

More than half of those can be fixed on a PSP-1000 with CFW, though. And a ten minute modification to the D-PAD. (and CFW is pretty much required for the full PSP experience, IMO)

But if they seriously updated the response time on the LCD, AND added TV out for non-HDTVs, I think 1000/2000 to 3000 would be a worthwhile upgrade.

Nope. The faster the pixels can lit up or change color, the less there will be ghosting.
Also, the better the color and the contrast is, the more apparent the ghosting will be.

Anyhow, if it's true they increase the response time it will truly make the new screen better. Ghosting is the only major problem on the PSP imo.

Seems I can finally upgrade! Carrying the phat in my hospital scrub pocket has not been very optimal. My bro's slim feels much better and doesn't weigh my shirt down as much either. Better screen, the improvements from the last model(I buy my games anyway...but if cfw does come, I'll bite). Heck, I get 10+ hours with the phat using the Stamina battery. With this sucker, I think we have a winner! Now...continue my trend and get the Japanese versions for their color variety, or pickup the US model?

Over the past 4 years, I never saw any kind of proof the Samsung screens exist.

I love my PSP 2000 but I'm going to keep an eye open for this. If the consensus is that the screen's a big improvement then one of my brothers is going to find a slightly used PSP under the tree this Xmas. (Good thing I kept the box)

I'm not sure about the credibility of that banned site, but if that's true, wow. The PSP's response time has to be like 24ms or 32ms at least, maybe even more. Cutting it down to 12ms or even 16ms would get it not too far off from PC LCD screens.

Even if you don't trust that site, this one (http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20080821/psp3000.htm) also reported something similar. So multiple sources are saying that it is better.

Pretty much the same here. I upgraded from my day 1 phat PSP to the white Darth Vader PSP Slim last October. If the new PSP 3000 really has a much faster response time, I might have to upgrade again. Maybe I'd use the PSP 2000 for CFW and use the PSP 3000 for standard stuff...

Still not enough upgrades to buy it and discard my phat one. Fail, imo.

I can totally understand how you feel since I held out for a long time before I upgraded from my PSP Phat but once I did I was kicking myself for not doing it sooner. They seem like such insignificant upgrades on paper compared to what Nintendo usually does with their upgrades but the 2000 is just a much more viable gaming device IMO with the changes and I would expect that the 3000 will make the improvements more apparent.

damn, i really would've upgraded my slim if this had a bluetooth toggle.

you know, for wireless headphones and tv gaming with a dualshock (when you plug in the psp to your tv, do you really have to sit three feet away from it? what's the point?)

It's such a short time since they sold us the PSP 2000 that sony should give us a trade in option. It's ridiculous.

Hopefully i won't need this PSP, i have interlacing cables coming in the mail so i can play on SDTVs already.

Mine too! The one I bought about a month ago! I guess I'll wait until the 4GB PSP-3000 pack is out before I replace it. And I won't leave it with any of my friends while I go on a pizza run.

I married my wife, and then two months later met a far cuter girl. I should get a trade-in option, it's ridiculous.

SOLD

btw, seems they ditched the PS Logo on the left and just put the Sony logo there.

they already have a PS logo on the Home button

Also, I'm digging what they did with the indentation on the center of the four right buttons to make it more D-pad like... works better for FPS games and third person Sony Bend games

Just throwing this out here as I felt the other portion about ghosting "probably" being reduced could use to be cleared up a bit. Don't take anything personal, just thought the 可能になった portion should be translated a bit different.

Rather than it merely being that ghosting has probably been reduced, they were *able* to create an image of little ghosting due to the increased response speed. Fairly big difference I believe. :D
