Sony PSP 3000 announced (Mic/Better screen) - Compare in Post #245 WOW

You know what I find interesting? Sony has not touted battery improvements.

I expect the PSP-3000 to have smaller chips (65nm anyone?), but maybe the screen improvement negates whatever battery improvements they would get with by shrinking the chips.

Or I could be looking way too deep into this and this model uses the same chipset as the PSP-2000.

Not so fast. The camera is perpendicular with the new psp - that alone would reduce glare. I'm not so sure this image is a true representation - I'd rather see both setup identically in seperate photos.
The camera being perpendicular to the screen doesn't necessarily mean glare would be reduced; the relative angle of lighting is what controls that. If you look closely, you can see that the new PSP is lit at an angle only slightly less than the old one (its shadow is about as long). Also, there's obvious glare on the screen bezel and even a little on the screen itself (check bottom left corner). The position may be helping a bit, but I bet this is a pretty good comparison.

I guess this is the replacement for the launch psp with the crazy analog I was looking for. I could do with no fifa or harry potters though

I didn't get an answer to this, but will the PSP-3000 have wireless G capabilities? Or was it not even mentioned?

PSP3000 here I come!! :D

No, according to the spec sheet it's still wireless B.

Wireless G is not needed for online play. Your sending and recieving kB/sec rather than MB/sec, you will never reach the theoretical throughput of wireless B.

Yeah, but wireless G would definitely increase the range of the console, while making web browsing less of a chore.

The ring around the PSP was shrunk, what was sony's reason for doing it?

Those smudges disgust me. Nice comparisons!

Which is why the matte finish for the black PSP-1000 is still the best.

Wow, it is really vibrate colours.

I think it is cost more on old one, because it is look made from a thick metal pile and cutting in thin slice.
It would be cheaper to thinner the metal pile.

I ALMOST bough a slim to replace my phat.. I'm glad I didn't now, but I'm betting the firmware on this one will have iron clad protection.

EDIT: EWWWW Why the glossy backside??

I wish they did a comparison with a screen protector over the screens. I don't know anyone that doesn't have a thin plastic film protecting their beloved PSP

Hmm. I'm now considering this plus all of SE's ports of games I don't have (Star Ocean 1 and 2, VP, and hell, even FFT while we're at it [FFT is one I do own for PSX]).

Then that R&C game I want is being bundled in October, AND I get a free Echochrome.

And here I thought 2008 would be my first year in forever when I didn't buy a new system.

Not big into pirating games, so I don't care about that. Don't think a PSP-4000 would make a ton of improvements that would make me regret this purchase a year down the line, hopefully.

I don't either. :/

In fact, I don't know anyone with one.

Fucking Sony...oh, well.

I still like my 2000...but, what are the comparisons between? Obviously the 3000, but is the other one a 1000 or 2000...?

It's a 2000, has the audio output holes on the top of the faceplate.

Ah, I see. Thanks.

The light doesn't seem to be at its fullest, though--but I must be wrong because they'd be testing the 2000 at its best, I assume.

it's gonna take more than a more vibrant screen to make me buy another slim. it's not even a problem when i play my 2000, it looks perfect to me.

but, hopefully this is the hack-proof psp they've been trying to make. that i can support.

You guys are crazy. Emulation on the PSP is incredible. I can't imagine owning a PSP without the option. Running Sonic CD and my old Versus games on the thing is bliss.

Why are we crazy..I've asked the mods and Evillore to lock the PSP Custom Thread many times, but to no avail. Just because some users use homebrew and own the games, doesn't mean the majority of the PSP custom brew users don't use it for illegal means. I'm hoping Sony made this truly unhackable, but that will make it more determined for the PSP Hackers to break open the PSP, ASAP. Making the PSP Hackable doesn't encourage developers to make more games for the PSP, which is why Sony should do like Nintendo and root of all the hackers out there or threaten litigation.

no, i'm looking at it from the angle of it bringing more software to the system.

i feel like it's a bit ignored because of the terrible profit margins that're obviously piracy-related. i hope this is a step to bringing developers back.

Does the microphone pave the way for a PSP 4000 with dual analogue sticks?

I remember a big argument against those was that they would change the hardware and screw over early adopters... and the microphone sort of does that.

I'm also waiting for built-in memory.

Damn, that difference is amazing.

When is this coming to the US? I need to decide when to sell my PSP 2000 so I don't lose a ton of money on it.

ISOs sure, but not emulators, but then again if one is there the other will follow.

Do Sega CD games need a special emulator or does DGEN work?

That's wha I'm worried about here.

If the mic is just for skype and vocie communication in online games, then whatever.

But if games start using it like the DS microphone, then I'm going to be annoyed because it means I'll have to buy new hardware (can't really carry around the mic headset with me all the time that I have my psp on me.)

Nor will it ever avail you to do so (unless your goal is to get banned for being annoying) because unlike you, the administration of NeoGAF aren't in favor of witchhunts and punishing people for 100% legal activities.

Because the way that DS games use the DS microphone is annoying as fuck?

I've never had a screen protector on my 2-3 year old PSP and it's still fine.

I have a launch big psp, and a launch slim psp. Neither of those have any scratches and I never used a screen protector.

Has it been confirmed yet that the video out supports SDTV for games?

I think it has.

Apparently it is fixed, if not much less than before.
