Sony PSP 3000 announced (Mic/Better screen) - Compare in Post #245 WOW

Why are we crazy..I've asked the mods and Evillore to lock the PSP Custom Thread many times, but to no avail. Just because some users use homebrew and own the games, doesn't mean the majority of the PSP custom brew users don't use it for illegal means. I'm hoping Sony made this truly unhackable, but that will make it more determined for the PSP Hackers to break open the PSP, ASAP. Making the PSP Hackable doesn't encourage developers to make more games for the PSP, which is why Sony should do like Nintendo and root of all the hackers out there or threaten litigation.

I have a new found respect for the mods of this forum.

No, but I do agree with you. I did once write letters asking for the inhaling of oxygen to be illegal since criminals also need it to breathe it in. Fuck all those other people, just as long as the criminals suffer.

That's wha I'm worried about here.

If the mic is just for skype and vocie communication in online games, then whatever.

But if games start using it like the DS microphone, then I'm going to be annoyed because it means I'll have to buy new hardware (can't really carry around the mic headset with me all the time that I have my psp on me.)

There are some games that use a mic, such as the Talkman games, so I wonder if they are supported without any attachments now. Personally I don't think there will be any real change to games being made for the system, and if there is, it will be an option.

Stringer said earler this year that last year was about catching up and THIS year was about innovating !

Well this limp dick update falls sorely short of what it should have been.

Apple waltzed into the portable audio market and took it from Sony who should have been working hard post-Walkman to keep that market.

The next market that needs to be grabbed by Sony is the portable video phone call market. Free for anybody with a WiFi connection.

With a camera on the PSP... AND that built in mic, they would have delivered the next big thing.

Yes, the camera is an optional extra, but if it was standard in the body there somewhere you wouldn't need that big clunky bolt-on accessory.

Then a unified PSN login that shows chat capabilities (voice/video) whether you are on the ps3 or PSP would round off a great service.

All for the cost of a built in camera and a bit of software magic.

Nice little upgrade i guess but I am still fine with my original PSP. If Sony wanted original owners to upgrade then they shouldn't have made the original damn near perfect. Should have done the same thing Nintendo did and release a butt ass ugly one so the next one would be amazing.

This is probably to get new customers anyway. /shrug.

XonoX, you join a long list of "visionaries" who tried to claim video calling as The Next Big Thing. You keep illustrious company.

Apparently it is fixed, if not much less than before.

Hey, I hope you're right, because I don't want to have to upgrade my PSP every year.

I guess this makes up for them never bringing the mic USB thing to the US. Now, if they had built in a GPS, THAT would have gotten my money.

Because the way that DS games use the DS microphone is annoying as fuck?

Because I can't always carry a PSP mic-headset on my person in order to play single player video games.

i was looking for stands, and the sony signature line in japan made a really gorgeous stand, but does anyone know if there's a place you can get one online for less than the sixty-something they're asking on ebay?

Woah, nice stand. I'm interested as well.

This shot just reminds me of how badly I want a white PSP. Seriously SCEA, stop being cockwhores about PSP colors in this country, and give us a standard white PSP-3000 when they hit.

These stands are made of two simple parts slotting into each other. It made me think of making one from wood and lacquer it to preserve the graining. Should look nice.

Didn't they already announce it?

I would think it would come with the 4 gig memory stick bundle.

Oh my. Ebay link please.

Just got an iPhone yesterday, and it just took a whole lot of cool off the 3000. That screen is immaculate, but now I can't imagine going back to that gimped browser. I guess I'll wait for cfw before grabbing this one, now.

The PSP2 is so going to be a kickass Sony-Ericsson phone. I want a built-in HDD, BT, WiFi and 3G. Whatever magic they work, my W810i gave me better battery life than any phone ever used. So I figure the PSP and SE teams working together could create a phone that looks nice, runs great and lasts long. I can dream, at least. PEACE.

Wireless G is not needed for online play. Your sending and recieving kB/sec rather than MB/sec, you will never reach the theoretical throughput of wireless B.

It brings the over-all wireless network speed down though... I'd like to have all 802.11g gear connected rather than mix and match...

I just made my own from 1/2'' Acrylic. Looks the same as the ones in the pic except I laser etched a different design on the front. Contact a glass or plastics place, show then the pictures and they would be able to cut it out for less than half the price those official ones go for on ebay.

Looks like you can only get it from the physical stores x_x

the online markup on these stands is unbelievable. 50 bucks on ebay, AND crazy shipping costs.

on shitty routers, yes. But 11N will fix all that.

is there anywhere online were I can buy a playstation signature stand?
:lol

that's the problem here, few things can be had here in America, and it seems like this one guy on eBay has cornered the market on it. so yeah, you can buy one from that ass for $60, but I wish there was a more sane person selling the stuff.

The increased color gamut and improved contrast ratio was noticeable when we placed the PSP-3000 system right next to a PSP-2000 (PSP Slim); colors looked richer and more vibrant on the PSP-3000. The vivid, ghost-free screen does draw more power than the old screen. John Koller, Sony director of hardware marketing told GameSpot that the new screen will reduce battery life by "about 20 minutes."

It is really annoying that the black one is out in november, while the silver one is out in october. I can't believe they are pulling that shit again.

The black one is not being release the same day as the silver? the fucking blows. Oh well I still planning to upgrade my launch PSP, my dpad and shoulder buttons are fucking up

Does the PSP-2000 screen have worse gamut/contrast than the PSP-1000 or something? Because I certainly don't think I've ever seen such washed out color on my 1000...
My 2000 screen never looked like that.

Nope.

They did this same shit with the Slim, and I fell for it that time. While I don't hate the silver color, both Black and White look much better.

Wow, in the pics that SolidSnakeX posted -- the ones with the Little Big Planet background wallpaper -- there are details present in the top pic that are hard to make out in the bottom pic.

The PSP 3000 should be important to those who care about picture/image/video quality.

erm.

my 2000 looks more like the 3000 images than what they're showing. maybe my eyes are faulty and defective.

Well, it's common to see cameras in all cheap mobile phones (including Sony Ericsson ones), so it would be so cheap. Built in GPS (and FM radio) would be a great addition, a lot of people would buy one to have it in the car. Both GPS and radio are also common in mobile phones (maybe not in the cheaper models). A faster UMD reader and a larger battery also would be great.

Also would be cool to add some homebrew features in a hypotetical PSP4000 including : to dump games in the MS to enlarge battery life and to improve loading times; emulators of every old console/computer, pdf/txt readers, file browser, better web browser...

But for me, no ghosting + games playables in tv + crisper colors + better contrast = win. I'll replace my psp 1000 for a 3000 (a better d-pad is also a great feature for me, I love Street Fighter).

I'm not trying to say or imply anything... just showing that the difference is just as visible on the current PSP Slim as it is on your PC. The colors on the 3000 look just as vibrant on the Slim web browser. Take it as you will. I don't know enough about images and colors and pictures to draw any conclusions.
