Sony PSP 3000 announced (Mic/Better screen) - Compare in Post #245 WOW

It brings the over-all wireless network speed down though... I'd like to have all 802.11g gear connected rather than mix and match...

Wireless g would absolutely kill the PSP's battery. There's a reason why the DS and PSP both only use b! That being said, decent routers can have G and B devices connected at the same time without a drop in network speed...

That is quite a difference but I'm quite positive I'll be fine with my PSP Slim Silver until the new PSP2 comes out in a year or two......

You can't accurately show a difference in contrast or color gamut unless the screen you are showing it on has better contrast / wider color gamut than the better one of the screens you are trying to compare. So unless you have a recent professionally calibrated high-end monitor (with enhanced gamut backlighting) and the photo/camera are equally well calibrated to the same light reference you're not seeing a good representation of reality.

I have no idea what you just said, but it sounds like you know what you're talking about. Thanks for the heads up.

I guess it was a bit convoluted: In simple terms, unless the screen you are using is better than both the screens compared in the photo it can never really show the actual difference.

And even if it is better, it probably won't give an accurate representation of reality because of calibration problems (between the screen and the camera used to take the comparison picture).

It's conceptually similar to watching a high-end TV commercial (eg one that purports to show how brilliant the colors and contrast on a Kuro are) on a shitty TN TFT.

People were actually believing this bullshit by Sony ? :lol

Some people like you believe that it is normal to buy a console 4 or 5 times during its lifespan because of hardware failures. Nothing else will ever come close to being that stupid.

We have to keep in mind that every pic we see online is seen through the filter of your own monitor.

But still, I had to try.

PSP-2000 @ brightness 3 vs Viewsonic VA1912wb.

I'd say my 2000 is better than their's but I suspect my monitor isn't doing justice to the 3k screen

Drain an extra 20 minutes?

Why don't they release an even better battery alongside this shit already, damn
This. I love my PSP, but I really hate the short battery life (using a stamina pack on the original PSP-1000, btw)

My PSP-2000 screen doesn't look that washed out. I never play in glare though...I really have no reason to pick this up. Less ghosting would be nice, but not quite $200 nice.

I'm in the same boat. And I'd also like to able to do what my PSP-2000 should have been able to do... SDTV output. That they didn't include this in the 2000 still either boggles my mind and/or infuriates me depending on my mood.

Completely inexcusable that they want me to pay another $200 for a feature that isn't quite as good as the one they included in the last model, only because I don't have a $2000 TV. My Slim's only 4 freaking months old.

rumour (not posted yet?)

A Best Buy insider has tipped us off to say that the new PSP 3000's will include the ability to play games on the PSP using a PS3 controller. And you will also be to use composite cables (480i) to play games on the TV instead of requiring a component 480p. This should be treated as a rumor until confirmed.

Don't see the point really...

This would be great used in conjunction with the video out capabilities.

If only the game video would go full screen, it would just be so great.

I think the PSP is borderline unplayable on TV for me.

That would make me consider getting a 3000, a DS3 is much more comfortable to hold for long periods of time than a PSP.

That would be a phenomenal feature for me since I travel for work. Hook up the PSP-3000 to the TV and play from chair/bed with a PS3 controller would be awesome. A portable that can be played like a console also is brilliant.

Now just add the option to play all PS3 games on PSP and you got a nice portable screen. :D

Would be fun for only the first few days, but still.

now to think of it, it would be (almost) like a freakin' ps2!

Does the PSP-2000 screen have worse gamut/contrast than the PSP-1000 or something? Because I certainly don't think I've ever seen such washed out color on my 1000...
I agree this looks like some BS marketing strategy to me.

PSP becomes new PS2
if they allow us to connect a DS3 to the new psp wirelessly, there's still the issue of psp games running in a tiny window and still looking pretty nasty on a tv.

So, is IGN wrong, or is Gamespot wrong?

http://gear.ign.com/articles/906/906678p3.html

The introduction of the PSP-3000 will also mark the release of several new bundled packages, one with Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets UMD, and a 1 GB memory stick. The other will feature a 4GB memory stick and a voucher for Everyday Shooter, available via the PS Store. Both will retail for $199.99 on October 14, while a core pack will be released in November for $169.99.

Hopefully IGN is right about this.

I just saw the scan from UK PSM that listed the built in mic in rumor section. I hope that means it got the rest of the rumors right too, especially KHIII :O

That's exactly what should happen: switch all of the PS2 support over to the PSP, and really push the system. Sad how wonderful of a system is being so wasted right now.

IGN has more updates to firmware via Famitsu and Watch Impress - I'd think that these are PSP-3000 specific:
http://au.psp.ign.com/articles/907/907086p1.html

- Color Space setting (Use the new upgraded one or the old PSP 2000 color range)
- Option for automatic USB connection on USB cable attach
- Setting for lower noise output to TV

Famitsu also does image comparison, which has impressive differences... until Locoroco which seems the same. They speculate that there isn't much difference in the two as the game is optimised for the current color spec. They expect new games to take advantage of the new screen.

Both famitsu and Watch show a very nice comparison. The differences are notable, even for loco roco

I expect that to be the case for most older games.
