Sony to start manufacturing PS5 physical games in Brazil that will be distributed nationally and exported to all LATAM countries

Machine translation via DeepL:
Here at Sony Interactive Entertainment, we appreciate the support that our Brazilian community has given to the PlayStation brand and our products. We are excited to share the news that, from now on, PlayStation 5 physical disks for our exclusive and third-party games will be produced in Brazil.

Sony Interactive Entertainment worked hand in hand with long-time partner Solutions 2 GO - a well-known multinational entertainment, electronics and accessories company - to create a state-of-the-art facility in the Manaus Free Trade Zone to produce games on disks that will be distributed nationally and exported to all Latin American countries.
The Solutions 2 GO facility already produces physical media for PlayStation consoles of up to 66 GB, but will now also support games of up to 100 GB for PS5, including the acclaimed God of War Ragnarök.

To ensure maximum efficiency in the production process, a team of specialists from Sony Interactive Japan spent weeks in Brazil working on the installation, programming and training of local staff. The initiative reinforces their commitment to Brazil and the Brazilian community.

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
Brazil has always been behind the curve tech wise, its because of the cost to import console hardware is high. Its also why the PS2 saw some releases still, and why Tectoy still sells Megadrive hardware.

But but physical is dead guys....

If this isn't a sign that physical games are here to stay then I don't know what is.
Well not including 3rd party stuff because that might be a different story but Sony's leak's showed that their games was almost double and sometimes more on physical than Digital so in Sony's eyes...no.
And Sony is a big pusher of physical media, especially in the movie industry where they put out the best transfers for even the most forgotten films and have now just signed a deal to to produce Disney's catalogue for physical media.
Plus Japan is pretty big on physical still so it makes sense for Sony to be as well.

Sony leaks tell little to nothing about LATAM.

IDK if you guys know others countries outside USA and UK (probably not), but people here still buy PS2 and PS3 games.

Physical media in sub-dev countries are still a thing and the only reason Nintendo stop doing is because they can't fight piracy with is kinda really really strong in Brazil.

I thought his plane just crashed there

Was crashed and he think he was the only survive until he won the tournament and met her mother, but thats not mean planes are from others countries.

He born in Brazil, but because of the accident he lived like our native indians in Amazonia.

But his mother isn't from Brazil.. correct?
I mean it's a technicality, he obviously identifies as Brazilian as that's all he has known.
And Blanka, not Jimmy was technically born in Brazil.

Good news, this will help them reduce costs and hopefully (I doubt it) final prices for LATAM achieving better profitability.

As I remember they already did it with the console hardware in the past with the PS3 and maybe other consoles. It could be interesting to consider to do the same with hardware: to produce the LATAM units in Brazil too.

Yes, but she gave birth in Brazil if I remember right.

Blanka is indeed a popular fighter here in Brazil back in the arcades, only behind Ryu.
How to combat lower kicks? it's his weakness.

Yeah, this won't bring prices down. The only game prices cheap in Brazil are bootlegs and PC games. Good news for Sony at least.

I've never seen a Tectoy Megadrive in the wild, nor have I seen a PS2 actually. You can still buy a Wii with a HDD loaded with games though. I think same for PS3/260. I'm in SP, but I've not been all over Brazil, looking in all gaming shops or whatnot. Can't remember seeing it in Rio either, but I mostly just remember being hospitalised in Rio. Never buy and drink coconut water from street vendors in Rio y'all...it'll literally kill ya.

Good move to make it easier to distribute games in Latin America. Keeps discs out of shipping containers sitting at ports and hopefully gets them into the hands of people who want them faster.

Good new, for Sony, for the retailers, for the distributors, the government, for the factory manufacturing this, to every retailer in Latin America, to everybody, yada, yada, yada, then only then to the costumers.
Games will probably still going to cost 70 dollars, which converted is 1/4 a minimum wage, and will arrive day 1 the same way than the "imported" discs. Business as usual.

A hummingbird in the industry once told me a long time ago (circa 2011) that the distributors in Brazil has a "gentlemen's agreement" to keep the digital prices closer to the physical media distributors/retailers. Even if their tax regime is completely different.

I live outside of these, so I assume I know mine, lol... I keep speculating that there are some markets that would die for a cheap PS4 Mini and a digital only PS4 Handheld based on that (which would also enable a PS4 powered cableless VR2), because it could be much more affordable than a PS5 can be in the near future. The legacy stuff might not make billions, but kinda like movies having cinema, BR, streaming, TV, a few revenue streams, it could be another income option. And already bind consumers to your ecosystem and maybe with PS6 and 7 those countries and people will be in a better position. Unless they want to leave that in used hw and games hands. And like mentioned it could also add variants for the wealthier markets, as long it is just a hw iteration without any specific support needed it hardly can be a colossal cost risk.
