bill0527 said:So let me get this straight. Sony, who continues to lose money hand over fist as a corporation, spends serious R&D and development money to develop something completely worthless to the vast majority of consumers.
Makes perfect sense.
It's pretty clear they are going to ride this 3D train straight to hell despite the fact that movie goers and home entertainment consumers have soundly rejected 3D.
If I was a Sony shareholder I would be livid right now.
I'd need to get an entirely new wardrobe before I buy that thing.

why would you ignore the pixel count? at the end of the day, you're being asked to look at and enjoy a 750" virtual screen that appears to sit 65 feet away. It's perfectly reasonable to ask what the experience is like at that resolution given the size and distance.brucewaynegretzky said:But shouldn't you judge it as 720p across a .7inch screen?
I've always thought that if you were buying one of these and the purpose wasn't almost exclusively for travel, you are ForeverAlone.Eversynth said:

Uh? Why would you use them only for travel? Aren't they advertised as a mean to watch movies as in a giant 3D screen, or using them for gaming?Dreams-Visions said:I've always thought that if you were buying one of these and the purpose wasn't almost exclusively for travel, you are ForeverAlone.

Also, what about people using glasses like me? A big "Sucks to be you"?

Yes, this set is for home. Most of these kinds of items are sold as travel devices and connected to a portable video player of some sort.Eversynth said:Uh? Why would you use them only for travel? Aren't they advertised as a mean to watch movies as in a giant 3D screen, or using them for gaming?
Also, there could be 2-3 people in the same room using them, like in that picture...
I expect it to be like watching 720p on a projector. It's fine, but I don't expect it to be as sharp as my HDTV.Medalion said:I am not saying you are wrong or whatever, but try it out if you ever get a chance someday, I'm sure the experience is much different than watching a 720p video source like a 2D monitor
that's cool. I just don't see it as practical because it isolates all your relevant senses from everyone else in your house. I can't see the wifey happy with that...but do you. I'm sure it'll be fun...brucewaynegretzky said:Or, they serve as a second TV for couples... I just don't see this logic at all. I want one because my gf has no interest in a 3DTV. I could use these while she watches TV and we could both be on the couch together.

even better. if these things got cheap enough, they could bundle 2 w/ every ps4.Hari Seldon said:I'd take that in my PS4.

Duh, I'm not suggesting that... it's a comic and it's made for laughs, to exaggerate a rather boring alternative where one is at home, with or without other people, and won't hear or see what's happening around him.Dreams-Visions said:Yes, this set is for home. Also, lol @ you suggesting what you see in that picture is something that happens in real life. I can't imagine many scenarios where I'd rather slap this thing on (headphone quality is another huge question mark) than simply flip on my bigass HDTV. Especially not if other people you know are around. It *completely* removes you from the social environment. Who does that?
you kinda do... unless you can see and hear everything when you dream. which would be kinda cool.. i think.Eversynth said:I don't sleep with earplugs and a blindfold on!
As has been said, it's like the 90s all over again. People didn't want these then, people aren't going to blow $800 on one now. And this setup isn't even portable.Dynamite Ringo Matsuri said:Man, I can't believe they still research and manufacture these personal home theater glasses. I've always been curious of the visual fidelity and whether it accurately represents the experience of a giant screen though.
I'm honestly thinking i'd buy one for my dorm in the military. No space for a huge tv, and headphones meaning it wouldn't bug a room mate./XX/ said:HD OLED Head Mounted Display "Personal 3D Viewer"「HMZ-T1」

Sony Global - News Releases - Introducing World's First*1 3D Compatible Head Mounted Display Equipped With High Definition OLED Panel

Seeing these translated and localized video and press release from Sony Global site, something that normally doesn't happens for their products exclusive to determined regions, it is very plausible this product will be commercialized worldwide.
Personal TVs are uniformly dorky. I've tried several, and allI mean all of themare the kind of horrible experience that makes you think the future is a very asinine place. To date, other than watching hard core pornography on an airplane, I've not yet seen a compelling use case for wearable televisions. And then I tried on the HMZ-T1.
Not only did this sell me on the concept of wearable TV, it was one of my better experiences with 3DTV which I've likewise been skeptical of
Sounds like japan is getting it first. But looking forward to that review...dofry said:I will test these out if they are on store shelves on 11th of November. And if they are good, I will buy them. Of course expect a review for GAF either way.

Well I'll be looking out for it. Especially if you can try it out on ps3 titles.dofry said:That's not a problem as I will be there anyway. Maybe some Sony center in Japan has these for display even now. I remember Tokyo at least having some Sony demo building of some sorts.

This is most likely going to have by far better quality of 3D picture compared to any 3DTV or movie theater. That's where its strength is. I imagine it will be like a huge 3D OLED screen with incredibly vibrant colors and no color dimming associated with typical 3DTV glasses. Personally, I'd rather buy this than the 3D TV in their current incarnations. I know I'd have to use it at night when everyone else is asleep, because otherwise it'd be stupid as you remarked, but I'd be fine using it every once in a while under those conditions. I imagine playing something like a Wipeout or Superstardust in 3D using this could be mindblowing.Dreams-Visions said:that's cool.
