Wow. Not buying LBP3.
WWE 2K15 is 800+
and you pay for that huh
Outside the free* games you get PSN+ and the PSN is a joke. It's down several times a month, games like COD don't even use dedicated servers, we have debacles like Driveclub still not working, PSN gets DDOS attacks that bring the PSN to its knees, still no automatically trophy syncing and shit like this cloud storage having a petty limit.
* = Not really free.
Even Apple doesn't have unlimited iCloud storage.
I would pay Sony a little extra for more cloud storage, though.
Agreed. Storage space in the cloud, if you're going to support cloud saves, shouldn't be the users' concern. It should just ALL work.
I think on PS4 it is free but on PS3 it is tied to PS+.
Apple gives people 5GB for free though. Sony gives 1GB and charges for PSN+.
If you are a PS+ subscriber, you get 1GB of online storage for your save games. Great, right? Wrong.
On the PS4, the minimum size of a save game appears to be 10MB, and many are much larger.
- littlebigplanet 3 is 500MB on its own - that's half your storage gone
- my Driveclub save is 115MB
- FIFA14 was 75MB.
I have already run out of available online storage space and so new games will no longer auto backup saves. Because PS4 does this in the background you really have no idea whether it is working or not without manually checking. The whole point of auto uploading is that it happens quietly in the background and you want reassurance that your saves are backed up.
Sony need to improve this and offer us 'unlimited' online storage. Realistically this won't actually be unlimited, it will vary from user to user based on how many games you have bought, and how big each save game is.
This seems reasonable to me because we aren't in control of how big save games are - that is the developers. And we only need more space because we are buying more games - each of which is making money for Sony.
My god, this!
This would help out so incredibly well. Not sure why Microsoft hasn't done the same thing with their cloud based service and Xbone.
Evil Within was one of my larger ones too, since it lets you create multiple saves.I just ran into this problem too. I kept getting Evil Within upload errors on my notifications and thought my network was having problems uploading. Then I discovered I hit the cap, which is crazy cause when it was just PS3 I was never even close.
Dropbox syncing or the like seems like it'll never happen for security reasons. But 1GB is pathetic, especially given that every file is at least 11MB and many games have multiple. Should be unlimited. As far as I know there's no way to check how much space you're actually using either which is painful.
And in the meantime we definitely need better options for managing saves. Unless I'm missing something you currently have to upload/download/copy saves one game at a time. If we could backup/restore all saves to/from USB with one click the inadequate cloud save would be less crippling.
I'm particularly concerned since my PS4 has had a corrupted hard drive 3 times. Cloud save saved me those times. But since then I've gone well past the 1GB limited so if it happens again there will be real data loss.
That's kind of a dumb reason not to buy a game, but OK.
Should be telling that to Steam.
Can you turn off save uploading for a single game? I would consider it then.
My upload bandwidth is at a premium, as is my bandwidth cap. I don't want to take a 500MB hit to my cap every day I play the game.
You can do a 'select all' when deleting or copying. I don't think they tell you how much you are using - it tells you the size of each file but I was adding up in my head as there is no total.

Not to mention axing half of my online storage.
You can, it's just sort of hidden in comparison to how it works on PS3.And to be honest I don't know if you can turn off uploads for individual games, I know on PS3 is used to prompt you per game if you wanted to turn it on but I don't ever recall seeing that on PS4. Seems like it would be a good feature to include.
what in the world.
On my PS4.
LBP3 save file is 15MB, the profile is 536MB
Driveclub save file is 10.49MB, Ghost data is 105MB
2K games are huge save files though.
Hmm, so my ps4 uploaded 15 mb for LBP so I wonder if it is smart enough to back up just the save if extra data is too big?

System > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Upload to Online Storage > find the game > Auto-Upload > Off
There HAS to be something broken on LBP3. Can someone explain to me exactly what that game is saving to warrant 500MB of space?

Same, it's a mystery. Why have game saves gotten so big? I get why games themselves use much more space with stuff like more detailed textures, but I'm having trouble understanding how that translates into huge game saves.
Curious. Does the Xbox have online save storage still? I remember it on the 360. But I don't think I've ever clicked a menu telling games to save in the cloud on Xbone. If so, does that have a limit?
It's probably cloud saving your creations within the game, and it reserves 500MB for that purpose.
