Soulcalibur IV HD install size: 2.85GB with 2MB+ saves

Despite earlier reports of a mandatory hard drive install of more gargantuan proportions, a scan of the back cover of the Japanese version of Soulcalibur IV shows much more reasonable requirements. The mandatory install itself will be 2,850MB or 2.85GB while a save file will start at 2048KB or 2MB. Obviously, the more characters you create, the more space it is going to take up on your hard drive. Does this seem more reasonable to you guys? Do you still mind sacrificing some HD space for faster load times? Or still hoping developers eliminate them altogether?

this was already posted a while ago. but anyway, why does a fighting game need a mandatory install? vf5 didn't have it, and that game looked more impressive than sciv.

Installs are fine, if they were optional. I realize this takes more time, money, and effort.

Really? I remember going through an install when my buddy bought it. Or are we referring to the 360 version? Wait... does the 360 version of SCIV require an install?

That's totally reasonable for an install size IMO. I was hesitant at the thought of 6GB being required, but 2.85GB is fine. Looks like I'll be getting the game afterall. PEACE.

It sure did, bud. Over 3gb.

Sounds more reasonable.

I expect the PS3 version to have an install, but I''ll be pissed if the 360 version has one.

Also, to avoid confusion (despite it being said MANY times in other threads)...

Virtua Fighter 5 on Playstation 3 has an OPTIONAL install, not a mandatory.

I asked about this in the Famitsu thread... someone on 2ch posted the back of the PS3 JP SCIV box and it ONLY had an install marked for the 2MB save file. I asked if it was a fake, real, namco lying, etc... no one even batted an eyelid.

mandatory installs are lame. a mandatory install for a fighting game is mega-lame.
It is optional. And a fighting game is possibly the best genre to have an install for, who wants to sit through stages, characters, etc. loading again and again? Before someone brings up Uncharted or something, you have to remember that this is not a linear game so streaming is impossible.

I would think to keep load times down as low as possible. Even in best of 5 matches you are going to be hitting a load time every 2-3 minutes. If those were 10 seconds long it would be really annoying.

I really really can't see why people give a damn about installs. Maybe it's because I'm also a avid PC gamer... but.. really isn't there more important issues than a one time install?

if the game is multiplat i'll avoid the mandatory install everytime.

Not using an arcade stick for a fighter for the loss.

i prefer playing with a controller. choices ftw.

I think the people complaining about mandatory installs are forgetting why they're done in the first place. You shouldn't be worried that installs will become the norm, they won't.

I doubt they'll exist next gen. Why? Because we'll have Blu-ray drives that go faster than 2X. THAT'S the reason we have mandatory installs on PS3.

Think about it. The load times on PS3 are already either the same or a touch longer than the 360 in most cases. Imagine if the installs WEREN'T being done. Holy shit.

Again, like all rules, there are exceptions. But really, that's it.

Nobody's holding a gun to your head forcing you to play the game. Jesus christ it's just installing some data on a Hard Drive.

because console gamers are afraid their consoles are turning into PCs :lol

Next gen is too far to worry about when harddrive space is being sapped by games today.

space is limited... and console gamers aren't used to it... maybe if the ps3 came with 400GB+ hard drives people wouldn't care much... but with 20 minutes install times and minimal differences in loading... doesn't seem worth it.

optional installs should be mandatory.

When did load times suddenly become some great evil? We lived with it in the past and we can, and still do even with space hogging installs, live with them now!

Ya okay space is limited. But unless you're playing your whole collection of games very often it's no big deal.

It's just something people are latching onto to bitch about, when it should be a non issue.

Could be annoying if you bring games over to friends' houses.

Actually, a fighting game is basically worst-case-scenario in terms of loading.

Load times have always been bad. Fighting games should be as fast as the arcade on consoles especially if they have an install.

I still wonder if Sony let ND do things third party devs aren't allowed to...as they still cache from the HDD, but don't install. I don't think other devs are allowed to do that.

One game had a 20 minute install - DMC4...why? Because the data was badly organised. You can hear the laser jumping about the place reading the data. MGS4 had a similar install size, and it was silent at installing and much quicker too.

just because it's not a big deal to you doesn't mean everyone else should feel the same way.

i simply refuse to buy ps3 games that require a mandatory install unless it's an exclusive.

space i'd rather save for something else. like dlc or psn games. and yeah nobody is forcing me to play the game on ps3. again - choices ftw.

With as impressive results as Uncharted?

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with developer talent. I think I read somewhere that Naughty Dog has some of the best game programmers out there.
