I'm loving it so far, My block has been in 2 episodes already. I got to watch them film parts of the 2 episodes, Pretty cool. :D

I'm surprised no one is posting in this thread. Are people still watching Southland?

This week's episode put me in a huge funk. That was some heavy shit, especially the ending...

I'm really enjoying the show. It's a lot heavier than I expected.

I just watched the finale tonight. This is a really cool show. I was actually hoping this season would last a bit into summer since it started so late. Heavy was a good way of putting it, thetrin. Man, two of those sequences in the finale were just so intense. Surprising ending too. Looking forward to more of this show. It will be back right?

I sure hope so. That last episode was brilliant.

Any reason this season was only 7 episodes?

Not sure why it was short. I guess to just see how would do in a short run and it was short because it was such a late addition. I remember it was involved in some sort of deal with the people who made it and ER (which they made also). I think at least.

I just looked it up and it did get picked up for next season initially for 13 episodes. I suppose if it does well, it'll get more. On NBC's site it says it will be on at 9PM on Fridays though. That's odd. I just record my shows anyway, but Fridays aren't typically great slots. Anyway, nice to hear someone else is enjoying this. I'm going to try and make my family watch it over the summer.

Unfortunate to see it in a Friday time slot, but it doesn't affect me personally. I watch it on Hulu anyway.

Glad to hear it's already been picked up, though. The show has a lot of potential, and it seems to be developing a really great tone of its own.

Anyone else really really love the intro for the show?

Well, the timeslot doesn't affect me either, I'm just hoping it stays on (assuming it continues to be good). Do you mean the music/credit intro or the way they do the flashback thing? The credit thing is alright, but I really like the mini-flashback thing they do. Very cool.

So, how intense was that (Finale spoilers)
part with Regina King with the shotgun at her house
. That was pretty cool.

Seven episodes and moved to Friday. I wonder why this show isn't getting more love from NBC last I read the ratings were good.

I hope that Martha kingpin doesn't turn into a regular character. It's always so cheesey when they make criminals regulars in procedurals. It's why I started disliking Life when that Russian guy became a regular.

Edit: I know Southland isn't technically a procedural before anyone jumps on me.

That part was really really well done. The way the camera stays with her the whole time was perfect.

The ending of the episode was a GIGANTIC gut punch.

Absolutely, on both counts. I didn't see the ending of the episode coming either. Pretty rough. At least it'll be back in the Fall as opposed to some shows not coming back until 2010.

Episodes 3-7 are on Hulu.

Just watched episode 4.... I was very surprised at how Ryan and partner werent in the episode at all, I thought the show was about him. I liked that though, it makes you change your perspective (show about LA cops, not about ryan)

I only caught the last 2 episodes but this is one of the better cop shows I've seen in a long time. VERY realistic cop show. The dark humor, the jaded view of society, and the rediculously dumb people they come in contact with... "then call me a cab!!...... You're a cab!"

I'm convinced a writer has been picking the brain of a real police officer because that is a true-to-life show. I'm not sure the alcoholic and the pain killers addiction are necessary though.

I surprised by the lack of Ryan in the show. He also doesn't seem to be comfortable playing a cop. We need to get Ryan to cameo appearance in Chuck or Gossip Girl.

What do you tell a girl with 2 black eyes.

What?

Nothing she hasn't been told twice already.
:lol

I figured him being uncomfortable was intentional with the whole thing about him being a rich bastard.

Season 2 of this starts on Friday, and I didn't see a Season 2 topic up yet, unless I missed it. Will there be one?

I loved season 1, the cast was tight, the action was good, and the finale had me really excited.

Whoa, why the hell do I have the season premiere recorded in 3 places at this Friday??

I'm very sorry, actual premiere date is Friday, October 23rd at 9/8c.

WTF? Was the first season only 7 episodes or something?

Yeah season 1 was 7 episodes. Don't know how long season 2 will be.
And I think it got moved to Fridays because it dropped viewers later on in the season.

First episode of season 2 is titled: Phase Three.

Oh shit.

Yeah, it was picked up for season 2 after only 1 or two episodes, but every episode lost viewers. With Leno, there was no 10pm space, so it got sent to fridays.

Season 1 was only 7 episodes because it was like parks and rec...not a mid season pick up, more like a last quarter season filler for anything that got canceled.

WTF NBC.

'Southland' canceled
'Dateline NBC' will air in drama's Friday time slot

By Nellie Andreeva

Oct 8, 2009, 06:33 PM ET

It's the end of the road for drama "Southland," which has been canceled before the launch of its sophomore season.

Production on the John Wells-produced cop series is being shut down after six episodes.

"Southland," from Warner Bros. TV, was originally slated to debut in its new Friday 9 p.m. time slot during premiere week, but in August, NBC opted to push the start to Oct. 23 and air "Dateline NBC" in the meantime.

"Dateline NBC" will now continue to run in the Friday 9 p.m. hour.

It is not clear when the six produced new episodes of "Southland" will air.

Meanwhile, the cop drama starring Ben McKenzie will be shopped to broadcast and cable networks.

"I'm disappointed that NBC no longer has the time periods available to support the kind of critically-acclaimed series that was for so many years, a hallmark of their success," Wells said. "We remain extremely proud of 'Southland' and are actively looking for another home for the series."

...

Then came the Jay Leno factor, with NBC forced to shift its 10 p.m. dramas to 9 p.m. to make room for "The Jay Leno Show."

While "Southland" enjoyed support among NBC brass last season, after screening the finished episodes from the upcoming second season, the show's content was deemed too dark and gritty for broadcast TV, especially for 9 p.m. Additionally, a high-end drama like "Southland" is certainly far more expensive than newsmagazine "Dateline" for low-trafficked Friday night.

Jay Leno strikes again.

I hope they put the episodes on Hulu at least, I was looking forward to the return of the show!

Woah.

First season was decent, but they were going for a more procedural (and cutting it back to Ben, the gay guy, and the black lady as lead-ish characters) for the second season to stem the ratings drop.

So, maybe this was a good thing.

Edit: This actually might be thread worthy. It's a strong comment on the state of NBC. Go ahead and make it dude.

Too dark? Too fucking gritty?

NBC you outdo yourself everytime.

Fuck you Jay Leno *Crosses fingers for Chuck's survival*

A shame. I really liked the pilot and I liked the 'beat cops' angle in the show.

It seems that NBC's plunge into ratings obscurity continues without losing momentum.

The Monday night combo of Trauma and Heroes is a particular cluster fuck of fail.

I'm expecting NBC to axe Trauma at any moment and bring back Chuck early.

I just think that Chuck will need more than Sarah and Casey to keep him safe in the current NBC schedule.

:(

So....what does this mean to Chuck? Could it arrive early?
Nope. NBC will continue to air Dateline in the Southland-slot on Friday nights, as they've been doing the past few weeks. Plus - as much as I'd like Chuck back early, I don't want it on Friday nights, where it'll probably get absolutely terrible ratings.

Man that stinks. NBC is angering me these past couple years. I really liked the first season and the finale was really good. So, what are the chances someone else picks the show up?

They'll be shopping it around, probably to FX or somebody. I mean, it delivered good ratings, I don't find it unlikely that it won't live on somewhere else, unless it is a terribly expensive show.

That's be nice (although we don't get FX in HD).

'Southland' Set For Official Pick Up By TNT
By Nikki Finke | Category: Uncategorized | Friday October 23, 2009 @ 2:51pm

I hear it looks certain for a TNT pickup of Southland, which was dumped by NBC. People working on the show are being told to prepare for a projected November 2nd re-start date. Warner Bros has no official announcement. But that's because TNT and NBC are still negotiating some moolah terms, according to my sources.C'mon, was there really any doubt about this? Especially since John Wells and Barry Meyer are joined at the hip? Plus, judging from the fan furor, the show deserved another try.
