Williem Dafoe, J.K. Simmons, James Franco, Rosemary Harris. Cliff Robertson are super well cast

nobody will ever come close to Simmons as JJ or Dafoe as Norman Osborn

sadly I can't say the same for Maguire and Dunst but the rest of the cast holds up well.

They're great because Peter just gets shit on the whole time. 2 is better because the villain is more interesting and Peter gets shit on some more.

I honestly can't stand the Raimi Spider-Man movies, I liked them okay at release but it completely fell apart for me when I saw them again. The main cast is just so awful and ruins so much of my enjoyment that I can never watch it again. I don't care for the story at all and the dialogue and character melodrama is cringe-worthy to me.

I'll never understand the amount of love they get or those who say they're better than the current crop of modern superhero movies.

Dafoe absolutely fucking made this movie. Just wish they didn't put him in such a garbage costume.

I'm generally pretty down on the Raimi trilogy but it has some extremely solid moments that I'll always remember fondly. The climactic fight scenes in both movies are among the best in comic book movie history.

The final fight so personal, raw and brutal and great. Spidey 2 is better obviously, but the final fight in this one is severely underrated.

This I can agree with.

That whole scene feels tonally very distinct from the rest of the movie. Always liked how Dafoe lets out a little "oh" at the end. As if the Goblin personality abandoned him right as he was about to get run through. So crazy.

I don't think the first holds up at all. It's way too campy.

Also, Tobey is a terrible Peter AND Spider-Man. The movie has it's moments but as a whole I think it shows how much comic-book movies have come.

It was too campy for me when it came out lol, but most of that shit does not bring down an otherwise solid flick. Macy Gray though....

Defoe and Simmons are amazing in it and it has some pretty good action but otherwise it doesn't feel like anything special anymore. Tobey always felt like a terrible Peter and neutered Spidey and he has no chemistry with Dunst to boot. Also Power Rangers Goblin and organic webshooters are kinda scust.

Spider-Man 2 is better than the first one in pretty much every single way and gave Franco more opportunities to shine. Sadly they fucked shit up in Spider-Man 3.

Really mind-boggling that William Dafoe never played and most likely never will at this point play the Joker (he really looks like Arkham Joker).

I loved the two movies, when it came out but after re-watching it 2-3 years ago I must say it doesn't really hold up (Tobey and Dunst). As much as I hate ASM 1-2, ASM2 did a good Spidey (character) compared to ASM1.

The Final Fight between SpiderMan and Green Goblin was pretty brutal, I still get disturbed by the Green Goblin getting sandwiched by his Hover Board.

I love this movie. Yeah it has some flaws but I let it slide.

I really really hope Sony and Disney get it right with the new SpiderMan.

Spider-Man 1 and 2 are great, early comic book movies but they have aged a bit now, and don't hold up quite as well anymore, mainly because special effects have improved since then, but I still enjoy both movies a lot.

The less said about Spider-Man 3 the better though.

also, ang lee's hulk is still the best

I feel like I should agree, but man, I've tried to sit through the Hulk on two separate occasions and I just couldn't get through it.

I should try again though. I want to like it, but it's SUCH a slow starter...

Sony wrecked Spiderman 3 when they forced Venom into the movie, Raimi had no plans for Venom, Spiderman 4 before Sony killed it, John Malkovich as Vulture, Raimi doesn't like Venom as a character...

Re-watched it a few months ago, and thought it held up very well. It's still an enjoyable film, and has a very different feel from modern superhero movies.

1 is definitely the best in the trilogy but honestly I don't really think these movies hold up that well. They're alright though, and 1 is still pretty good overall I'd say.

Yep

Just rewatched this tonight on bluray and it still holds up great.

Also I think what alot of the Marvel superhero movies are missing are the random save scenes and stopping criminals which the Spider-Man series has plenty of which make you feel good.

Oh wow, I literally rewatched it last night too. Weirddddd. Well, I started to, then I fell asleep because I tried watching it at bedtime ;_;

I'll finish it tonight probably.

Spider-Man the movie impacted my way of viewing what I want in a good vs evil movie. Unlike many where the good guy finally triumphs over the bad guy at the end after getting rekt so many times, Spider-Man had smaller battles throughout the movie where the bad guy won some and the good guy won some.

It was never fully one-sided.

It was, & (this may be a controversial opinion) Spiderman 3 was better than 2 and as good as 1.

I'd be very happy if Sony dumps all their horrible Spiderman plans (The Amazing series, the third reboot, & whatever Marvel has planned) & go back to the original movie series, but I know that's not going to happen.

And even though he beats the villain, that just means his best friend lost his dad (and someone who was a father figure to Pete as well).

I think those movies are overrated as hell.

Peter came out as a loser, he isn't a loser, he is a geek, a nerd like us. Down on luck but pretty smart guy. Never saw that on Tobey's Peter.

Spider-Man was way too silent; no jokes, no quips, the CGI looks dated as hell but that is not a fair criticism.

The best thing about Raimi's Spider-Man movies was JJJ and DaFoe.

Also Dunst sucked as MJ.

Peter is a character that's always had bad luck when it came to his social life. Nowadays not anymore but back then that was a big part of his character.

I actually think in Spidey 1 he's quippy enough. The sequels are where he really stops quipping

Now we're talking.
This girl is so beautiful...

Here's the thing - I appreciate if she's not everyone's cup of tea, but Jesus Christ - some parts of the net constantly whining 'wahhh waaah ugly Dunst' is just insanity to me.

If Dunst classes as 'ugly', 90% of us are fucked

I had been reading Spider Man comics for nearly 15 years so it was the biggest cinematic event in my life up to that point. I mostly enjoyed it. Willem Dafoe was a great Osbourne and I loved all the Spidey sequences at the time but I never like McGuire in the role and Green Goblins costume was as bad as everyone said. I really like Raimi's direction too.

It really wasn't, but 2002 was a trying time for a lot of people for a lot of reasons. With that much emotional baggage people are allowed comfort in the arms of junk food, television and film. This was junk film.

Did we watch the same movies? The entire series is quite literally about a capable young man who can't catch a break because of the responsibility he's taken on.
