So they made a Mewtwo?

I actually want to see it more after this post.

Same here...the movie looks rad and a character drama with science fiction/horror undertones? I'm fucking sold!

I guess you got me there harSon. But at least they had the good grace to call Miyagi Japanese.

And 'feels like a Cronenberg movie' is great praise, I'll see it soon and make my own judgement. But it's sounding pretty good to me so far.

I thought it was fantastic, along the lines of an early David Cronenberg film. Yes, parts of the audience laughed at moments, but it was mostly a defense mechanism from actually engaging with what was happening. A few obnoxious teens laugh, it's contagious, etc. The ending is a bit rushed and sloppy, but overall I thought it was great.

I absolutely fucking agree. I just came back from this steaming piece of shit and it has to be the worst movie I've seen since the Spirit. Hell, the Spirit was way better than this fucking thing. The trailer makes it look like a sci-fi action horror movie, right? Fuck no, it's a sci-fi softcore porn character drama movie. There are at least like four sex scenes in this movie that are all incredibly awkward and quite frankly disgusting. And everything in this movie looked like a penis.
Sounds like you have your own issues to work out.

Agreed on all counts. Very Cronenberg, in a good way.

Well, at least he's got The Spirit nailed for what it is.

Saw this and thought it was a decent movie. The biggest problem was the ending. It was rushed and sloppy.

If someone was choosing between this, Greek, or Killers I would go for the Greek first of all, then Splice and wouldn't even consider Killers.

I thought it was okay, but I was definitely disappointed.

It felt very much like a B-movie, and I was expecting something far more intelligent and sophisticated.

Most demented fucking movie Ive seen in ages.

Seriously god damn creepy. Enjoyed it it quite a bit.

Cult-ish classic for sure. Just too weird not to be. I thought the ending was weak but aren't they all?

I don't feel ripped off so I guess I liked it. Maybe it will grow on me. Hopefully I don't have to raise it.

I guess this is the best way to explain how I feel about the movie.

I guess I feel like most of it was just odd, I guess.

Quite honestly have no interest in seeing this. It looks cliche and run of the mill to me. I'm a horror movie snob and this is just another Jeepers Creepers type movie with scientists instead of college kids.

awesome. I'm there. you sold me

Wonderful little movie.

About as similar to Species as eXistenZ is to The Matrix.

If you liked the flick and want more icky sci-fi horror, be sure to check out Human Centipede and Bad Biology.

Is it wrong that I'm only interested in this because Brody is in it, and that I only care about seeing Brody now because of the BrodyQuest youtube?

The ending was so hilariously bad, like even more so than the ridiculous plot that it had be considering whether or not it was seriously supposed to be a comedy.

The blob things look like nutsacks, Dren's tail looks like a penis, and her bald head with the line on it looks like a penis too! I DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS! YOU DO! ;_;

I really like Sarah Polley and the back-and-forth in here actually makes me more interested in the movie! Guess I should go.

Approach it with a sense of humor and you won't leave disappointed.

The B.O. numbers are very bad, and I don't expect any sort of slow burn from this one. If my theater is any indication, the word-of-mouth for this film is going to be awful.

One of my biggest beefs was the blatant, inelegant foreshadowing. The Fred and Ginger subplot made the main storyline completely predictable, especially
Dren's hermaphroditic transformation at the end of the film.
And then you have the
Elsa/Clive sex scene
, which made
Clive fucking Dren
unsurprising as well. The characters should have just held up a big sign saying, "THIS IS GOING TO BE IMPORTANT LATER."

Again, I didn't dislike it, but the final product was pretty disappointing. It's an interesting - but extremely amateurish - film.

Without the Fred and Ginger subplot nothing would have made sense.

I don't disagree, but it pretty much ruined any sort of tension the film was trying to build.

A better filmmaker would have found a better way to integrate the two plots.

Hahaha, this film sounds great. Definitely excited to see it tomorrow.

Also worse than Spirit? Yeah right mate.

I agree with the Karate Kid comment, such a pointless remake. But I'm sure it will be a decent film. Not even close to as good as the original though. Jackie Chan is no Mr. Miyagi, and also Karate isn't Chinese.
Karate Kid is a derogatory name they give the kid in the movie.

Supposedly they wanted to name it Kung Fu Kid, but the studio thought name recognition was more important.

We're on the same page.

I shit you not, Splice made Species look like Schlindlers List. It's fucking horrible.

But in all seriousness, bring some friends to the theater to see Splice. It's the funniest movie you'll see all summer. The film becomes so laughably horrible 1/4th in, that it becomes quite entertaining. I wonder, if the director realizes at some point "We're going for a hoakey/cheesy movie here"...or is he actually really trying to spoon feed me bullshit?

And I love the characters in the film. If these are supposed to be scientists, them I'm Albert fucking Einstein.

I'd like people who saw it to compare it to other Natali movies instead of horror movies. I'm looking for something like Cube or Cypher, not Species. At all.

Just read the plot synopsis on Wiki.

What the fuck. :lol
That was a surprisingly hilarious - but totally accurate - synopsis. I can't imagine the killjoys at Wikipedia will let it stay up for too long. :lol

went in knowing absolutely nothing, besides the one TV spot I saw. I figured it was a monster movie of the "lab experiment goes wrong" variety.

Uhh... what the fuck did I just watch?

This guy gets it, Splice on the merits of merely its art or plot direction deserves a 3/10, but its entertainment value warrants at least a 8/10.

I haven't seen the movie, but did they specifically state what animals were spliced together and why.. and why any of them resulted in a dagger-tail?
It's called a willful suspension of disbelief, if you're not going to engage in it I'd recommend staying far away from most sci-fi/horror films.

No, I'm aware of that and not judging this movie pre-maturely. I'm just wondering if any logic was put into this creature other than "it has to be deadly, so by chance it turns out that this creature is basically a ultra-killing weapon".
Just curious.
