Here's what I'm wondering - Why the hell am I getting the Rainbow Six: Vegas team on my next Splinter Cell game? Who's brilliant idea was this? At the very least, the Chaos Theory team seems to know a little about what makes a good Splinter Cell, so why break up that winning combo? I mean, at the very least, even if we had wonderful ideas like mark + execute and massive screen desaturation, they might be implemented in a way that didn't completely contradict what fans love about Splinter Cell...

I really don't think M&E is a dealbreaker. I wish it was a little less automated, but I like the idea of the precision and the effortless, perfect execution, fits well with the character. The saturation trick is just plain goofy, much like the projected objectives and arrows. So help me god if the next Rainbow Six features any of that.

I think it may have something to do with the creative director of Chaos Theory working on the Far Cry games now.

Overall I was a little disappointed coming off the demo. The Unreal engine is looking quite muddy, I really wish they adapted a left trigger aiming system, and I am on the fence about the mark and execute feature.

I did enjoy tagging 3 guys with no available execute, then bolting out and hand to handing the first immediately followed by hitting Y while they are drawing down on me. Three guys done nice and clean.

This proved to be a temporary enjoyment. I much preferred engaging targets using my own control. Though this proved a little cumbersome. The aiming did not come easy. While I adapted a bit by the end, I could not help but feel that the mark and execute feature is there to compensate for a lack of slick controls.

My biggest let down does not come from the demo though. This became a higher contender for rental as opposed to a purchase when they announced the absence of spies vs. mercs. My favorite feature of the last few Splinter Cells, and the ultimate source of replayability has been removed. While the spy vs. spy stuff looks interesting, in the end I feel it jeopardizes the value found when only facing human opponents. Having bots is simply not the same.

I hope the reviews assuage my fears, but this title I was once very much looking forward to, has now sunk pretty far on my list of anticipated titles.

Played review code from the beginning for 10 minutes. At minute 10, game breaking bug. Game freezes, Sam goes trough walls. Way to go, Ubibug, don't ever change.

that's horrible, considering how many times they've delayed this game for more "polishing".

That's not a bug, it's a feature. Not even walls can stop Sam Fisher.

research shows that some people found it too hard to go round so now you just float through the map like a fucking ghost

I'd pretend to be surprised, but I can't while looking at the direction they're taking this :/.

Don't forget the size 150 font on the walls reminding you that you are a ghost and can go through walls, while you are currently going through said walls.

I got a text from some Ubisoft promotion number I texted a few days ago (got a free gun code) today; if you enter "SPLINTER" as a coupon on Amazon you get $5 off.

Has anyone else realised that there is a massive gap in the dedicated stealth action market now? I know Thief 4 is coming, but when there's only 2 franchises of particular merit on either console (Splinter Cell & MGS) I can't believe someone like EA hasn't stepped in... considering how well these 2 have done sales wise.

I mean since 2006 (Hitman & Double Agent) there hasn't been anything apart from Velvet Assassin... and Velvet Assassin doesn't really even count. We really need another Hitman.

That's kind of weird, considering it's pretty much impossible to use any sort of stealth in Far Cry 2...

I had noticed :(

If you really want to worry about Rainbow 6, just look to the new Ghost Recon.

Im so shallow, that as long as there is still cover and i can customize my character, i will still by the next RB6 : )

Splinter cell's controls are getting old but still remain bearable. Rainbow on the other hand had sure as hell adopt left trigger aiming. Click to aim is not synonymous with fluid controls. How I wish Splinter Cell had this as a control option.

Wow....why is this game so UGLY?? The graphics in the bathroom at the beginning were great but everything afterwards was pretty meh-tastic

It's definitely not the best looking game this gen but I wouldn't call it ugly.

It's so dire I'm looking forward to playing Alpha Protocol as a stealth character.

It's not just the stealth genre. The "evolution" of just about all Clancy franchises has left several gaps, in the stealth to the tactical shooter markets. It's a damned shame. I hate to hold progression and new ideas against a company, but damn it, Ubi. The way forward is to add new properties with new ideas while polishing the existing ones to perfection, not to simply ditch everything in sight and build whole products around a few (often half assed) fancy concepts.

can't find the official thread so...

I just had a nitwit tell me that co-op for the game is ONLY splitscreen and I can't find confirmation or denial regarding that fact.

Should I be placing much faith in the claims of the nitwit?

The splitscreen co-op is a good thing but ONLY splitscreen? That sounds completely wrong to me.

Because it is completely wrong.

I've wanted to post in this thread ever since I was banned. The demo sucks. What they did to sam sucks.. they've nudered this game and the Splinter Cell name in the process. My god.. I mean some things are really cool, like the interrogation thing.. and the full will probably be better than this shitty demo, but come on.

And I read in a Q&A with the dev that they are PROUD of the AI?????? What the FUCK? I mean seriously!

I don't mind the graphics though, except the models are ugly as hell.

Well, he's not a friend, but he definitely IS a nitwit.

I'll punch him next time I see him if it makes you happy.

Thanks for making me feel better about my future purchase.

Reason you couldn't find the official thread is because it hasn't been made yet lol. I'll probably make it within a week of launch. Except I can't make headers at all like most official threads use :( so hopefully someone can do that for me. If not then it'll just be a headless thread.

Pffft.

Fancy headers are for pussies.

i actually enjoyed the demo. loved experimenting with the mark and executess. loved the presentation. i like where this is going.

i just wish they have a more seamless run to walk animation. it's either youre running or walking, nothing in between.

well I think the genre is not dead yet ( unlike point n click and adventures ) , and just to add to your post we got Syphon Filter Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow and Tenchu 4 Shadow Assassins got released last year.

now we have Splinter Cell Conviction in April and MGS Pace Walker in May plus Alpha Protocol in June , so that one game per month for stealth lovers.

Well, things went definitely downhill from there. Captured 720p shots of an assortment of bugs that would be embarassing in a Z-level game alpha code. How they manage to call this stuff reviewable is beyond me.

Anyone else had the same problems?

So I'm playing MGS4 and played the SC:C demo last night, and it seems like maybe this game will scratch the itch MGS4 is leaving me with. Also I commend Ubisoft on the choice to not have an over the shoulder zoom for targeting and the controller setup in general. When I first looked at the setup I was all like what the fuck? But I had no learning curve it all felt very natural.

But they make the thread look so fancy. I plan on doing the thread but someone will probably beat me to it and make me sad.

If you make a plain thread without the marketing bits, you have my vote. To hell with the overdone shill threads.

Anyway, I think you just have to call it.

I ache for a new Thief game.

The Conviction demo has one good gimmick (the last known position bit).

M&E = "Computer plays the game for you!"

Just not that impressed. Went back and started replaying Chaos Theory. For being nearly 5 years old that game has held up very well. Graphically, it looks dated. But otherwise it's still extremely strong.

The other night I was playing it and I was spotted outside the hall where I entered from the outside area of the level, but managed to sneak past the guys in that room with the experiment (the lights flickering on and off) and end up behind them as they're firing at my last known position. I could have easily just walked past them to the pipe to climb down, but a damn milk crate glitched out and wouldn't budge as I was trying to move forward. It was such an awesome moment completely shat on by a glitch that fixed itself upon a reload.

Finished Chaos Theory again last night, and I'm now playing Xbox 1 Double Agent.

Conviction has a lot to live up to. I'm still hopeful that it will give me a unique experience, which can be identified as Splinter Cell in the final product. We shall see.

Has there been any word of how long it takes to go through all the co-op story missions? This talk of a shorter single-player campaign isn't making me very happy. :(

I hope they do some Batman:AA challenge room stuff.
There's are modes that at least seem pretty similar to them. I'm not sure how the points thing works with that persistent creation things though.

Also, the game has gone Gold :D
