Splinter Cell: DA 360 Multiplayer Demo Today!

Ive played but have NEVER been ANY good at MP and I having a ****ing blast!

I used to be addicted to both PT and CT multi, and from playing this, they dumbed it down a lot, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. It seems like it's more of a case of "easy to learn, tough to master". Which is good.

Main difference I'm noticing, besides the obvious HUGE graphical upgrade from previous MP iterations, is that it't ALOT smoother.

For example, in the previous ones, if you're a spy and you jump on a merc, you'd stay frozen on top of him while the animation runs of him falling to the ground. In this one, you just jump on them and keep going. Caught me by surprise, first time I jumped on a merc I didn't even know until I saw him on the ground, I was expecting a little delay or something.

Once you master multi it's like videogame crack.

played one game as a merc with a bunch of strangers - can't say I enjoyed it! first of all horrible text yet again, I could not read the tutorial video text at all.

The spies are so damn hard to spot cos everything is so dark, once you do spot them they are super hard to kill. One time I spotted a guy hiding, I blasted him with the gun like 5 times, he noticed and like tried to hide, but wasnt doing a good job. Kept shooting him, no effect! like wtf is wrong with my gun! had to use a grenade in the end as any longer and he might have escaped. I had trouble killing a spy who was more or less staying still?

The spy is so nimble and the FPS mechanism so clunky (and everything is so dark) that the spy could just run around in a circle and be really hard to kill.

Sadly you seem to spend your time as a merc waiting for the alert that one of your areas is being attacked to let you know where someone is, then you use your radar thing to try and home in on them - tryin to find a spy any other way is like impossible!

this lengthy process seems boring and unbalanced in favour of spies. Its like trying to flush out a rat so you can shoot it, but you have no way to flush it out, all you can do is wait and when it does show it disappears into a hole before you even aim. rinse and repeat.

Then again, the spies have to be patient and hack like 5 targets to win? oh man. if you knew your way around, made sure to move around between targets every 30 seconds or so, you could probably remain undetected until you win. only problem is its so repetitive you'd get bored.

but then you guys are probably enthusiasts who know your way around much better than I do and dont feel this way, just the impressions of a first timer who was simply bored by the end of it all.
I've played a couple times as a merc and getting the hang of it after watching some of the tutorial videos. I like how you can adjust your range and width of your flashlight with up and down on the d-pad. The EMF(?) vision is really handy to spot spies hacking. The most satisfying is either to spot a spie in emf vision who's hacking and then snipe him in the head, or to knock him down by clicking the left stick and then picking him up with A and giving him a headbud to kill them. You need to know the map as a spie to look for good hacking spots as a merc and search those out.

heh I always forget that americans call it a flashlight.

anyway I'm sure the game can become more natural once you master it, but the point is as a first time player I am not compelled to even try.

I tend to favour slower games involving stealth over run and gun, but this didnt seem for me.

Well I really enjoyed the 5 or 6 matches I played. I've been a SC fan since PT and I ****ing love Chaos Theory, but could never really get into competitive multi. Anyway I definitely plan on picking this up. It comes out Tuesday right? Hopefully we can get a GAF game going.

I dunno, I'm also a fan of more tactical/steathier gameplay modes, and this demo seemed to do it right, provided you play as a spy (obviously).

There was something amazingly cool about sneaking out of a hidey hole, hacking the terminal a bit, and then ducking back into the hole when you saw a flashlight going around. And then if you're feeling a ballsy, try and sneak up on a merc that's looking for _you_, and snap his neck.

I'm still getting used to the controls, but I can see the multiplayer component getting very interesting over time. And not having played any of the previous SC's online, I can start to see the appeal they've had.

First impression was kinda meh, its hard to find a game as a spy, i played one game as a merc dunno, wheres my motion sensor view? Only emf? Also, i played alone as a spy, what happened to the walljump etc?

prrrruuwuuuu

Played a couple of hours last night. Long time Splinter Cell fan but only got Xbox Live recently so I never got to play the multi-player before. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The problem with the quick match is that games run for about 20 minutes so if you're lookng at the wrong time, it won't find anything you can join. They really needed to give the option to back out of the joining process.

:( @ the framerate.

I had no issues @ 720p, it was constant and never caused an issue. It looks like it runs at 60fps with the heat vision on too, not that it means much.

They've really simplified the spies, but the fact you can do a bunch of stuff like hacking and turning off lights from range and without a weapon makes it much more nerve wracking for the mercs. I'm hoping there are more gadgets and grenades for the spies in the full version, I miss the smokes and sticky camera's.

Wait, spies can jump on mercs? I thought they took that out -- at least, I thought I jumped on one of them, and nothing happened.

They did an excellent job making the game more accessible to newcomers. I've been a fan since PT and it's always been hard to introduce new people to the game...we'd just wind up playing deathmatch, and even then, they sucked. Now, the spies' hacking device is used for everything -- disabling lights, neutralizing mercs, hacking, etc. The objectives are color coded and the mini-map is useful. Mercs run faster, which, coupled with the limited gadgets of the spies, forces the spies to play the game as it was meant to, by sneaking around and being smart. I think the game feels quite balanced. AI Mercs is a nice touch, as is the ability to search for a game with either spy or merc openings.

Now this demo is pissin' me off.. tried for about an hour last night, and a half hour this morning, to get into one friggin' game.. Always hangs at Joining a session. I may want to buy this game, but the inability to play the demo is not cool

So strange. I have the same exact TV and I swear the game doesn't look that good. It's an ISF calibrated XBR 960. I swear TapOut at TeamXbox touches up his photos.

Great game, when you can play it, tons of fun.

If you're a merc, you can narrow and focus the strength of your flashlight by holding up or down on the D-pad, narrowing its focus allows you to see farther (good way to check rafters) but essentially leaves you with tunnel vision.

I still don't know what that blue-vision on the right D-pad for mercs is used for though.

As a merc you can knock spies over, walk up to them then pick them up and break their necks.

As a spy you can sneak up behind mercs and snap necks, you can also land on them from above to knock them out, I think it's only temporary though and I don't think you can kill them.

EDIT: Why is there no word from Microsoft or Ubisoft concerning the brokenness of this demo yet? I mean, I pre-ordered, but I'm thinking of canceling if this is representative of the final product.

Not sure how factual it is but...

This is what shocked me about a Sat. release. I believe M. Nelson said that they didn't release over the weekend because nobody would be around to fix any issues.
Meh.

I'm so angry. I can't believe the actual game is released next week and I won't have the chance to play it because my 360 is dead.
I'm going loopy here.

Ironic if that's the case that they when they do release a demo on the weekend it's broken :P

Anyone getting the game and want to throw out some GT's? Mine's Korghano.

Pretty much, yeah... :lol

I skipped the demo, but I already have the game reserved.

GT= raYne.

isn't there supposed to be a single player demo next week?

god i hope so, it gets stuck at the joining screen, so i have to reboot to the dash, or i just get booted out of every game.

Yeah I have the same set and SC looks good, but not "that" good, and Hitman does not look crazy jaggy like that so I don't know wtf that is about.

Seems to be absolutely impossible to join today, been trying all morning. I got in one lobby and was insta-kicked.

yeah, closing NAT making it impossible to even find a game.

bah @ demo

To all those complaining about the axis inversion, you can change it in the Home menu
And you guys do know that you can set player default settings from the 360 dashboard, right? Set it so Invert Y is the default, and every game that setting's available in will set it to invert automatically.

Should save you a lot of hassle.

Chris_C said:
How do you open or close your NAT? I want to check the status of mine.

test your network connection, and it will have a setting alled nat, it will be either open, closed or strict. having it open is what you want.

To open it, you have to open some ports on your router.

ill get the docs in a sec.

Played coop against bots. Once I got the hang of it, I had a lot of fun. Graphics are very nice also. I can't join a versus game though.

I can't get into a game either, it says it's found one but doesn't get any further than the 'joining' screen. A way to back up from these lobby transition screens would be nice. Oh, NAT is open too.

The quickest way to get out of Joining a Session is to hit the guide button, hit X to sign out, then try again. Quicker than going to dash and back.

My understanding is that when a spy is hacking, he'll be visable via using this viewing mode because he's emitting an electronic frequency. Or something.

And I really haven't had that many problems like other people. Sure, it'll hang up on the joining session screen for awhile...but I'll just hit the guide button, go back to dashboard, then go back into the demo.

I've found that when going into a custom match as an Upsilon force, I connect to a game about 75% of the time compared to the very low chance when choosing a spy.

*edited to add*

Yeah, those screens have been touched up. The game looks nice, but not THAT nice.

Thanks for the info on EMF vision, should come in handy. I'll try your method of joining as well.
