Square Enix planning to reboot more IPs, create more collaboration games (a la DQH)

I want more Chrono. If it's bad, it's bad, but I'd like to see another take all the same.

Also let Tom Hall make an Anachronox sequel with that right sharing program thingy.

In short: do something with chrono in the name somewhere.

For everyone who wants more Chrono, if you haven't played Radiant Historia yet, get on that. Fantastic game and it has a very strong Chrono vibe.

Likewise, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter reminds me a lot of Vagrant Story.

I would feel so much confusion, excitement, and pain if they decided to reboot Anachronox.

I can live with a third person shooter stylization if they can match the original's universe and humor. I'm not sure how I'd handle a new main character or a different Boots VA.

I really could see it working as a Mass Effect style game.

Eh, Tom Hall actually cited Chrono Trigger as a strong influence for Anachronox. They should just outright make him part of the new Dream Team for the new Dream Project.

What.. am I reading? If you think they will fuck it up, don't buy it. Don't even look at it and pretend it doesn't exist. Why would you want to take away something that won't effect you at all if you ignore that millions would love for it to happen? These kinds of posts are some of the worst types of posts in gaf.

Because Chrono is a franchise I love and I'd hate to see it ruined by modern Square

Square still makes good games, just not their in-house japanese dev team.
I'd preffer if they spent that money on their western studios or publishing games from other japanese devs or developing new IP's instead of making a crappy new Chrono game. Especially if someone like Nomura or Toriyama is involved as director.

That's one of the reasons why I suggested Atlus for Chrono Break a few pages back. Instead of the pipe dream scenario of the old team being revived, there's no need to jump through extensive hoops to make it happen and they're a proven developer for this type of game. Not like it will. I don't know if Square Enix would turn to a subsidiary of one of their major market competitors to develop a title.

Let's all chant "Atlus, Atlus, Atlus" until it happens.

Nomura infects everything he touches.

But, seriously, why do people hate Nomura so much?

Is Yasunori Mitsuda still doing game soundtracks?

Please reboot:

Front Mission
Brave Fencer Musashi
Final Fantasy Tactics
Ogre Battle
Mana series

for console.

If this gets done and it's similar to the PS1 one, I will go out and preorder it the second I can. I LOVED brave fencer musashi, one of my favorite PS1 games!

But, seriously, why do people hate Nomura so much?

people blame him for the long development cycle of Final Fantasy Versus / aka 15 even tough there were some management problems...and since he lost his position = people think he isn't capable as a director

He is the creator of the KH Franchise on of the most sucesfull RPG Games in the industry (not many japanese directors achieved that) - he was character designer & therefore involved in the most sucesfull Final Fantasy Games (FF7,FF8,FFX)

i can understand when people don't like him and his style, but to deny his sucess and talent is bollocks

and if FF15 turns out to be a sucess, Nomura should also got a big load of the credit

Seriously... Putting Nomura at the same level as Toriyama, lmao!

If anything the only two people still in that company that can do a new Chrono game are Nomura and Ito.

Maybe Tokita can do something if he wants to and SE lets him.

He was a good artist
He sucks as game director.
And now he pretty much also sucks as a character designer

I'm not the biggest fan of his current designs(post-Parasite Eve) but I think his games are solid so I can't agree. I certainly don't think he deserves as much vitriol as Toriyama, regardless of opinion, Nomura's games still appeal to someone while Toriyama's recent output appear to have been made for Toriyama and Toriyama alone.

So 'Parasite Eve' may come back ?, That would be great, More Survival Horror is for the best.

Now imagine what gets rebooted ends up being Kane & Lynch.
Legacy of Kain: Dark Prophecy by Ninja Theory (directed by Rahni Tucker, story by Rhianna Pratchett)
I'd rather LoK remains dead than seeing it butchered by Rhianna's writing, there is not a single game story she did that I remotely like, and if Ninja Theory is to do is, they need to respect the source material, on 2nd thought, leave LoK dead till it is handed internally by Crystal Dynamics/Eidos.

If they reboot Chrono...I...can't...the story, world and characters are everything to that franchise. Please don't turn this into some shitty iOS title. Please just stay away from it.

I made I mistake. I thought for a moment Rhianna Pratchett wrote on LoK but it was Amy Hennig, obviously. Derp. It seems Amy is at Visceral these days. Dunno if she'd be able to work freelance on something like this.

As for Ninja Theory, I think they'd be a good fit, gameplay-wise. Capcom was the one that pushed for a "bold new direction" with DmC. If Square Enix were to stress a return to the LoK style I think they could pull it off.

Reboot existing (& famous) IP?
The original creation team is long gone, now SE will just fuck things up.

Just do HD remake or something.

I sure hope they bring back the Final Fantasy series some day. Man I used to love that back in the day!

I do too... but what if they bring it back on mobile with shitting sprite works, bad frame rate/load times and P2W model? There are fates worse then death. ;(

I have absolutely no faith in SE to do anything constructive.
I couldn't care less about their agenda, show me some game footage and I will judge whether they are worth my minimal attention.

Ah, reboots and collabs. The smell of desperation.

Naoki Yoshida is the only talent left at the studio (outside of their music composers). Thank GOD he is on FFXIV.

To me, the Bravely games are the real Final Fantasy continuations. They still have that old school vibe.

God it probably will be musou....jeezus....so lazy

I feel like that would be redundant considering there is a new Dissidia game for arcade and most likely consoles. Not only that, but Dragon Quest Heroes 2 has already been announced and I doubt they'd want to have 2 musou games at the same time.

Yeah FF musou is kinda redundant so it won't happen (New Dissidia is already collaboration with KT anyway).
Speaking of KT, SE is already have DQ/FF collaborating with KT. What other third party they would "collaborate" other than KT?

Guess what, to a lot of people, they already ruined it with Chrono Cross... (NOT ME, as I've mentioned numerous times I prefer Cross ever slightly more than Trigger) but a lot of people dislike it. You'll survive.

I hope they'll make wise choices about what ends up on mobile and what ends up on consoles. I don't have the highest hopes, though.

But what switch went off in Matsuda's head recently? Square Enix has been pretty much killing it in the news department recently.

A mature, slow burner HD Parasite Eve would be a nice and much needed reboot.

Keep Tabata and Toriyama a zillion feet away from it.

Yes, reboots like the fifth installment of the Star Ocean franchise and collaborations like 90% of the titles published under the Enix label.

And Naoki Yoshida must be an incredible talent indeed if he wave his magic wand and conjure a MMO of all things by his lonesome. Hiroshi Minagawa, Akihiko Matsui, Hiroshi Takai, who are they?

Why can't they just make an updated FFVII or make new FF games like Square did in their prime? Or do people not play these games anymore I ponder.

Hmm, in a perfect world I'd love to see successors to Valkyrie Profile, Live A Live, Einhander and Threads of Fate.

And a big fat "HELL YEAH" to whoever suggested getting Falcom on the Mana series. Have SE fund a Falcom (for the gameplay) x Brownie Brown (for the graphics) game...
