Square Producer: Any Final Fantasy VII remake "might delete things, add elements"

I'm sure Tifa would be flat as a frigging table.

Preorder cancelled.

I still find her pretty, though. It's the long hair and earrings what makes the chraracter somewhat attractive.

But yeah, a voluminous oportunity lost with that tanktop. Realistically speaking, she might look like in Dissidia;
jiggling included, lol
.

with remastered soundtrack?

Jenova remastered!? zomgggg.

That would be good enough, but I think they would turn her into Brunette Vanille or something.

I want a remake because these designs:

Look fucking awesome. I want them in game.

Even touch the battle system or the materia system and you can fuck right off Square.

Better yet... if they start changing things, they shouldn't even remake it then. All the game needs are new visuals and that is it!

Haha, yeah, adding Genesis would be the best thing ever, and so would making the game a corridor ARPG.

Also, remove the stuff like Don Corneo, cross-dressing, half of the Gold Saucer content, the piano playing, most of Cid's lines, the love hotel shenanigans, Hojo relaxing on a beach surrounded by polygonal women, the workout room in Shinra HQ, playing the mayor of Midgar's game for a password, the Wutai sidequest, dating your party members (especially big burly Barret), checking drawers for Tifa's unmentionables, etc. What? You thought the world of Final Fantasy VII was fun? Did you see Advent Children or play Dirge of Cerberus or listen to Genesis drone on and on about goddess this and Loveless that? :lol

In all seriousness, this is exactly why I was against a remake in the first place. I figured they'd say something like that. Stripping all the fun out of FFVII and adding some of the dumb Genesis shit in there would produce something that not all fans of the game would want. I know I wouldn't want it. I like all the stuff I mentioned in the previous paragraph. It gave the game heart.

Like a previous poster said, it's best for a memory to remain just that: a memory.

I wish Sakaguchi would come slap these motherfuckers in the face.
So do I.

What were they expecting? In 2005 for possibly the most popular JRPG of all time, they used a tech demo to promote what was the most anticipated of the big 3 consoles. Since it sparked a chain reaction, many things changed but the anticipation hardly died down.
A tech demo that they specifically said was just a tech demo that would never amount to anything, just as the FF tech demos they did for the PS2 and N64.

Yes, it should be expected that fans would have been pestering SE for it for a couple years after the tech demo, but not after 6 years of SE constantly saying "there's no way we can make this remake without making hardcore sacrifices" and the direction of the entire genre effectively cementing it.

If they were to remove stuff, cross dressing would be first to go, followed by the honey bee in :/ I'd imagine FFVII in HD would be super serious

Why can't they just remake the game but in modern hd graphics with remastered soundtrack? You know like they teased in the ps3 unvieling??
For the exact reasons they've been saying for the past six years that it would be impossible. It'd be too massive of an undertaking for *anybody* to attempt at this point.

I wish Sakaguchi would come slap these motherfuckers in the face.
To accomplish what?

I dont mind adding thing it taking things away that worries me and hope to god they wouldn't make it 3D in down fix cam or not at all

and they need to make it a Classic old school RPG in HD

after advent children i realy question how much i want a remake, i don't like the characters with there more realistic/ff8 style look, id prefere if there took a more stylized anime/cartooney look thats truer to the original art style anyway

Optional voice acting. i can turn off, original script.

In terms of content

- Materia is an awesome concept, but could be fixed and expanded upon.
- More Weapons as optional bosses (like ruby/ emerald)
- Give cloud a good ultimate weapon that doesn't rely on HP as it made him the worst character :p

No more Don Corneo pelvic thrusts... D:

The potential that this, the hot tub scene and the squat contest would have with HD graphics and a smattering of jiggle physics would be unbelievable. Awkward, yet irreplacable scenes making a whole new generation of players blush while gaming on christmas infront of their parents.

Just remake the SAME GAME if you ever wanted to remake it.... or don't even think of touching my favorite game of all time and ruin it... just leave it alone.

Would it really take too much work and resources to bring the airship back? (meaning fly it like you could in the psx games)

Add in a mushy J-pop ballad during a Cloud X Tifa kissing scene?

Interestingly I don't think one can really appreciate that scene until you've realized how quiet scenes like that are handled currently. Fucking upswel of some orchestral arrangement for those who don't realize this is a poignant moment.

Well we are talking about a remake here, would be fair to change some mechanics of the game, as long ad the story doesn't and we get a proper upgrade in the graphics/detail department. They shouldn't change the turn based though.

Keep the story the same, and by same I mean every bit of it. Change the battle system maybe and the graphics. If they're going to do a remake, make it proper.

FF7 story is a hot mess. It has its moments, but on the whole, as soon as you start to think about it, realllllly think about the writing, its pretty terrible stuff. No worse than most other VG writing, but bad nonetheless. If they remake, they will re write a lot of it. The bar for gaming writing hasnt been raised a whole lot, but it has been raised a bit sense then.

I'm sorry, seeing Star Ocean 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Eternal Sonata, and 3rd Birthday in the same goddamn gaming generation really doesn't convince me that the bar for even JRPG story-telling alone has been raised. At all.

And given the combination of the Compilation of FFVII's quality and Square as of today, I really don't want them to even touch FFVII, its flaws (and the potential improvements that a remake could bring) be damned.

For a jrpg? I'd rather not as it never goes well. It would happen though, you're not going to have a game that would look as good as this would and have slow crawl text floating across the screen like a low budget jrpg.

While you're right that it is highly likely they would add VA's, FFXIII had the option of popping up the text as the characters talked - I didn't think that looked bad at all. It's possible they could make something work with that kind of template I think.

Of course. But then they'd have to revise the script so not everything that comes out of the VAs mouth sounds stupid. That was a big problem with FFXIII. Not so much with FFXII.

XIII's dialogue/VA was so bad I skipped through several cutscenes. Never ever had to do that before, I was fucking floored by the majority of it. Who remembers the scenes with Hope and his "Operation Nora" shit, my god. At the end of some battle the camera zooms in on him sheathing(?) his boomerang thing saying "Operation Nora...Stage one complete..." like a boss, dropped the game for weeks after that.

XII's localization team or bust. Only instance since VA kicked in where the dialogue has been exceptional IMO.

Maybe when they talk about adding new things to the game they're referring to 3D. Is this the remake of the 7th edition of a JPRG game that rumors say 3DS would have?... :D

Honestly I'd be happy if they just re-did the graphics, and added an option to skip summon animations.

Totally agree. Maybe an improved translation, too, since the original was rushed. And, naturally, they'd have to add the ability to play with the joystick, not just the D-pad.

But that's it. I don't even want voice acting.

But they can do whatever they want, completely ruin everything about the original and its spirit, and I will still be a total sucker and buy it.

I have no faith in SE at all these days. So my take is, if you're gonna re-make it, leave it the hell alone and just spruce the visuals. Leave everything else as is.

Fuck it, I say release a remake in three episodes.
I. Up to and including the death of Aeris.
II. Up to and including the bit with Cloud in the lifestream remembering what really happened.
III. Add tons of new shit to pad it out, and maybe revive Aeris for OMG moment.

Bam. Profit and happy, ecstatic fans across the world.

Only thing I expect them to alter with Aeris' death is actually adding blood. You know, so misunderstandings like this don't happen.

Oh Square...just shit or get off the pot already. And if you think about the order in which that last sentence was written, you'll see my real feelings about it.

The only proper way to remake FF7 is in the same way the OoT was remade for 3DS: the only additions are optional playability and interface upgrades.

I'd like a 3DS version. And i don't really get why so many people are asking for them to basically change nothing. You realise the original game still exists, right? I mean, i love the materia system, but the battle system is pretty lacking. Very old school. And it needs more sidequests. It's a pretty short game, all told. Well, for the genre, anyway.

Sounds boring. At that point I'll just use one of the several ways to play the original. At that point it's not even a remake.
