Yeah, there is a disconnect for sure. I can play the PC on any of the tv's in the main room, and I do. I just wouldn't make someone in the room with me watch it. They just don't seem like "watchable" games to me.

Projector is great to game on, it isn't cheap by an means but its worth it. 4k with HDR at 60hrz no sweat. If I drop it to 1080p it can do 120hrz.

The problem isn't investment, Amazon invested boat loads. The real issue is that these gigantic corporations don't operate in ways that let gaming studios flourish.

If any of the above was super serious about gaming they'd buy a big studio (with cash on hand) and let them do their thing. The first part is easy, the second part is the hard thing.
 
Lol if google saw any future with sadia they would not have closed the studios, this is just step 1, they will close premium sub next, then it will be like onlive, and then try to sell the streming tech to others.
 
Ah! I feel vindicated, I recently got into an argument with some dumbass on Reddit who kept telling me that Google killing off its projects prematurely is just a meme.
 
Did they have a killer IP to begin with? I see all these places higher talent, but they don't exactly make the next greatest AAA game to hold their place in line. Isnt Microsoft studios one of the big dreamers where they'll cut everyone before they see their dreams come true?
 
They did it backwards..

Instead of treating game software as an afterthought, they should have had a game(s) ready for launch. The idea of streaming requires gameplay designed around it.

If there was to be any hope at all.

Games first.
 
While I still think cloud gaming is an inevitable future, Google didn't have a core business to offset such poor goodwill within the industry. On top of that, their business strategy offered no alternative value proposition for a consumer base that is not only brand loyal, but also fickle in terms of how content is managed within each respective ecosystem.

Whereas, a brand like Xbox can continue to deliver their current products and services, while lowering the switching costs to even the earliest of adopters for cloud gaming. Microsoft is probably super happy about this, and as much as I hate Google, less competition in this space is not good for the consumer.

So it's only their game studios, I feel bad for those who have lost their jobs but luckily there's a lot of jobs for their profession currently.

I see Google eventually selling off the Stadia technology or renting it out.

So essentially Stadia is done.

Ok so far that's now 3/3 dedicated streaming platforms that have bitten the dust (i.e. Onlive, Stadia and Gaikai). And even PS Now never really took off until they moved to the subscription model and added the option for local (non-streaming) play.

Hopefully everyone will now see that there really isn't a market for dedicated streaming platforms and that outside of the traditional gaming consumers, the demand for console gaming via streaming is pretty much non-existent.

Really paint's the picture that 2bln gamers MS keeps talking about (assuming they hope to reach them via streaming xCloud over mobile devices) is simply a pipe dream. As console gaming consumers they simply don't exist.

Gaikai?! What an absolute shit that was, and yes PlayStation Now is shit as well. I tried playing GTA IV on PS Now a few years back and it was the one of worst experiences I have ever had playing games... complete rubbish

Er... ok?!

I guess the quality of the streaming experience is always gonna be part of it's appeal or lack thereof, but even xCloud and Stadia aren't providing experiences that are superior to playing on hardware in your own home.

Streaming is always going to provide an inferior gaming experience, no matter what the service is.

Totally agree.

The folks tooting it as the future were either clueless technologists who simply had a hard on for the tech, or people who are simply entirely detached from the views and interests of gamers.

The writing was on the wall from the very beginning and I honestly saw this coming and said so since Onlive folded and Gaikai sold it's company and tech to Sony.

Streaming games was always another example of a solution looking for a problem to solve. I've always maintained that. Exactly like historical fads like waggle and controller-less gaming (e.g. Kinect), once the novelty of the tech wears off, you quickly realize there are much better ways to enjoy gaming.
