Stadia to close its game studios

That's Google for you. Access to near unlimited funds, scalable technology, and the best talent in the world willing to work with them, but they refuse to cultivate anything that isn't an instant success. What a shitty way to manage a technology company really. It must drive many young and hungry engineers nuts.

What was Jade Raymond's output at Stadia?

In fact, when was the last time she had any release since she left the Assassin's Creed team?

SHOCKED by this news /s.

Google can't commit to much. Instead of trying to fix, they'll just scrap the whole project and move on to something else. It's a real cycle with them.

Pretty sad. But what do you expect from a company that still, months later, isn't even supporting its own gaming service on its latest Google tv/chromecast.

That's the way to go. Few are going to buy hardware to stream games. An app in devices they already have could have more reach, though still has the barrier of having to buy a controller for people who aren't already gamers or hassle with syncing and controller back and forth between whatever console and whatever streaming device if they only have one pad.

In an case, a main appeal of streaming content is being able to access it on gadgets people already have. If there's a future in streaming gaming it will be on apps built into TVs and in all mobile devices. Otherwise for the core gamer market, PCs and consoles with options to buy games (physical or digitally), pays or services like Gamepass to download and play games ano streaming services on those platforms already reach that market. Only question is if there's a big enough market of people out there who'd pay for a streaming gaming service who aren't currently willing to buy consoles or a gaming PC, and who aren't satisfied by mobile games. I'm skeptical there's much market there.
The way to go? They're killing it, I can't see it any other way. They're already struggling to get games and publishers won't bother porting games to their hardware if Google show they aren't serious, and that's what they're showing when they're closing their studios. Geforce Now and Xcloud will keep getting games by default since everything runs on PC and Xboxes. Only way Stadia can survive now is if they swap to PC and add Steam support.

I meant it looked and sounded revolutionary, but the major hiccups were what it was charging to the consumers.
If Google bundled a package similar to Amazon Prime and had Stadia offered with Youtube Premium and shuffled other services in combination, then it would show a much better value. But the cost of it was too much.
People rather buy a console and Gamepass, to be honest.

Everything new Google touches turns to shit
I mean if they would've bundled it with YouTube premium , or partnered up with Sony , Microsoft, Nintendo or some other big publisher it could've been big, had limitless potential in my opinion
I mean who doesn't have an android device or a chrome browser.

well not that shocked futurama GIF

Sucks for the people out of a job though, hopefully most manage to land on their feet.

They screwed up the moment they didnt made it like a netflix type of things for games. Having to pay for full priced games that can only be streamed, would never work.

Straight out of the gates the thing was kind of a disaster. They went and hired industry veterans that launched platforms before, and yet the rollout seemed so amatuer and yesteryear.

The day Stadia released, Red Dead 2 was on sale on PS4 and Xbox One for $30 and it ran phenominally.

Red Dead 2 on Stadia was $60 and it ran terribly.

I honestly feel bad for anyone who bought full priced titles.

It's still only their own studio, not the platform. But the platform shouldn't be far behind.
