Monthly bandwidth costs were about $1million a month.
Divx were earning about $16 million per year from Yahoo for including their 'toolbar' with the DivX player. An estimated $8 million of that came from Stage6 downloads in 2006 with that number rising year on year.
Stage6 was to be sold off to private investors but Divx (who had the final say in the matter) canceled the deal at the last minute, causing to Divx CEO Jordan Greenhall and most of the stage6 team to quit.
Divx then approached Jordan Greenhall to come back to go ahead with the original deal, but he refused.
So then Divx decides to close Stage6 down.
Re: Blip.tv
When you choose to playback a Divx file it uses the same Divx player that Stage6 uses.
So bandwidth = 12 a year
16-12 = 4
16-8 = 8
8 > 4
Stage six was losing them money.
