Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 | The 'Verse Awakens

I think 2.1e is the best build they've released. Stable and smooth FPS for me. There's still a slight hiccup or two at the stations when enemy AI pop-in, but it's barely noticeable to what it was before.

I think this one will make it to Live tomorrow, unless they hold it to ready whatever the "surprise" is. There's no reason to deal with the issues in 2.0, 2.1e is miles better.

So the game has always picked my interest... Is now a good time to pick it up ?

Specs:

i5 2500k
GTX 980 ti
8GM Ram

I'm assuming that nothing is saved still between sessions ? Are there any missions ?

You'll be able to run it. There's no persistence but there are missions that you're given as you explore the mini PU.

You also could play the PvP dogfighting or solo combat against waves of enemies parts of the game called Arena Commander.

I'm not sure if they'll ever release on Steam or other storefronts. They've been extremely successful on their own without having to deal with giving up a cut of the pie. I mean the option is always on the table, but why bother until you know you've exhausted all but the live and die by Steam market.

Oh! I must have missed that notice.

Yeah it was just some dude messing around with Steam workshop, uploading images from SQ42 and even Spotify.

Ya this guy fucked everything up

Alright, I'm diving in and drinking the coolaid. I have been following the game a bit here and there for awhile and put it in the back of my head for later after the initial announced videos. After watching all of the alpha videos, reading through this thread, and then finally seeing the seemless transition landing, I'm ready. Im going to start building a rig, and I'll eventually purchase a package when thats ready.

Side note, I can't wait to see two capital ships going at it.

Planetary landing is not playable in the Alpha yet. You may want to buy your package before the end of the month.

Yup, I'm well aware, but I'm interested all the same.

If I buy the package before the end of the month I get full access to PU and S42 is that correct? My computer won't be completely built for a while and I didn't know if it'd be dumb to buy now if I can't play for months.

I believe that's the case, yes. After January SQ42 and Star Citizen will have to be purchased separately.

I just want the starfarer to be flyable.

Crusader is just going to be packed with lumbering behemoths blasting each other with those ludicrous sized turrets.

I wish they had some cheaper ships that you can walk around inside.I want to experience them all. I bought the cutlass, but will need to spend more to get to one the larger ships. Shit feels awesome just walking in your ship while it is in cruise mode.

It still feels like magic to me to be walking around on a Constellation while is zips through Quantum. I can't wait for the really big ships to be flyable. I can't even imagine walking around an environment knowing it's actually being maneuvered by a pilot. It's incredible.

I want to see an organizations capital ship blow up from the window of a ship safely in the distance lol

I sneaked in someone's Freelancer while they were taking off, I guess they had no idea I was on board while he was flying around and fighting pirates.

I wish there was voice chat so I could make scary noises while standing behind his cockpit seat, lol.

Framerate started extremely well 100+ at start. 60+ as I got my ship and entered it but overtime the frame rate deteriorated to 20-25 fps. The station was busier than I have ever seen it though. There must have been 8 or so ships on the pads.

I downloaded 2.1e immediately and got on there before most people. It was awesome getting a steady 60 for like 20 minutes before more people got on and it went to shit. I can't wait until we're getting that performance all the time.

Unless I missed something, I don't expect it to be flyable before the whole fuel harvesting is in. Not much point in it before then. It might have a big turret, but there's only one and it'll be a flying pig, so its more defensive than anything.

The turret is also only "ludicrous" by our current ship standards. The 890 has a pair of them. The Reclaimer has a few. Pretty sure the MM is supposed to have a similarly sized gun as well. Then there's the cap ships. The Idris-P has (at least) seven of them. The Idris-M has has the far larger STS cannon and railgun. That's before we even touch the Javelin and larger ships. We're just used to the small fries right now.

Why, when you can be in one of GAF org's cap ships while it blows? You too can have a first row seat to the event!

I just built a PC, it arrives in feb. what is this about buying now, if I buy now I get the full experience cheaper?

You get the experience cheaper in two ways. Currently you get access to both Star Citizen (persistent multiplayer universe) and Squadron 42 (single player campaign). After the 31st of this month, they're separating the two aspects of the game, and you'll have to buy SC and SQ42 separately. Additionally, when the games are fully released, the prices will jump on top of that. Of course, given enough time after release, the prices will fall again like every other game out there.

Basically. If you make one purchase now, you get the persistent universe and the single-player story all at once. As of Feb. 1, you'll have two make two purchases to get both those things.

Right? Am I understanding that correctly?

Is there actually a reason for this change? It's not like they are short on money.

Marketing mostly I'd imagine. Get the Squadron 42 and Star Citizen names separate in people's head leading up to the release of SQ42 so people don't conflate the completion of one with the other. Also gives the possibility for keeping a reduced cost for SC when SQ42 launches and goes full price.

And if you want to look at it in DS cynical mode, it gives another carrot to herd people into buying in now before the entire operation comes crashing down. ;P

Thanks, what exactly is playable right now? I get the alpha of the universe but the single player too?

At the moment you can play the very basic alpha of the universe (nothing persistent and missing almost all mechanics) as well as Arena Commander (dogfighting simulation with single seater ships), your hangar (with all purchased ships) and planetside demo (where you can have a look at a landing location). Still buying now will get you SQ42 and SC together. Even if you don't play you at least have access to both games when they launch. If you decide to jump in later you have to buy them separately (and mostly at a bit higher price I guess).

I can't believe I just bought into this game. :(
I haven't even seen any footage really.
I just know i would regret not ordering the cheaper overall package when i had the chance.
