Takes place about a year or two before the federation and the UP3 (which seems pointless as the heroes of every SO game ignored it...) and all that started.

It's supposed to explain the origins of the (major) things of the SO universe, so it could be cool if it isn't full of retcons or weird stuff. I'd love it if they even went as far as to explain the origins of Gabriel Celeste and the Ethereal Queen too.

Umm, im not sure why we cant expect good storytelling from a JRPG. Im not sure if thats what u ment but thats what makes an "epic" rpg to me. Tri-Ace has never been good at that but there are quite a few jrpgs that can. FFXII, Persona, DDS, Lost Odyssey, Xenosaga, Valkyria, etc.

Im hard pressed to sit through a 60 hour game with a shit story no matter what the battle system is like.

I'm going to vote no for Trends of the World. Sounds like a choral sample I've heard on the History Channel. The voice also sounds exact to the voice on track 1 of the Valkyrie Profile 2 OST: Silmeria side, disc 1. I recall a similar chant in Eternal Sonata as well (the ice dungeon). I strongly doubt it's Mio.

I will never understand GAF's problem with FFXII, but lets not get into that conversation. Im just sayin that FFXII beats all Tri-Ace attempts at a story since Valkyrie Profile.

Wow, I really like the look of the combat. Seems like a huge improvement over SO3. Then again, I thought SO3 looked great but didn't really feel great, so I'll have to actually play it. Still, gameplay vids are most certainly adding to the anticipation.

Me too. I'm really looking forward to the videos that will pop up after the relase of the game. I'm really, really exited for this! Everyone who posted in the old topic probably know my exitement for this game :lol :lol
 
I really wish they kept Japanese audio in this game =/. I used to think people who wished that were just nerdy Otakus - but after seeing that PA, I do not see that translating well in english.

Yeah, the English VA seems pretty good. A hell of a lot better than SO3's, that's for sure.
 
Quick Question: Was watching the Youtube video posted above. Huh... is there a battle BGM or was it somehow turned off? Combat looks awesome, graphics as well (screw the shadows though =P), but without music it lacks a punch.
 
I heard on the ign podcast three red lights. Eric Bruv**, who will be reviewing the game said:

"good game, but many things bothers him big time
two hour + dungeon (cause he tries to explore every thing and fight, he said he could dash to avoid monsters if he wants)
follow by long ass cut-scenes. He said he saved before and after a scene last night. The scene lasts for 50 minutes....
He really dislike the pacing of the game, long dungeon follow by long cutscenes."


I won't expect his score to be any decent.

"Archfiend", huh? Wonder if it's actually the same dude from SO1. It probably could be even without a bunch of sloppy retcons; it's not like he really got much of an explanation at the time.

Psh, that just means it's consistent. It's better than short gameplay, followed by long one hour cutscene. I kid


Uh, I had a dream I was playing a demo of this. That was just plain weird.
 
I dunno... if it were 50 minutes of badly directed cutscenes, I'd be pretty pissed too!

If IGN gives it a mediocre score, then I don't expect the game to get good scores. Famitsu said the game was "maybe too hardcore" now it's kind of makes sense.

Same reviewer gave The Last Remnant a 5.3 for being too hardcore as well.

I'm just going to skip every cutscene regardless of whether it's good or not. *shrug*
It'll probably be disconcerting at first. Edge will be sitting at the beach with a tropical drink and one cutscene later he'll be inside a giant gorilla's intestines 1,000 years into the future. Oh well.

Then before I start a replay I'll just check with everyone to find out which cutscenes are worth watching.

Oops SO4 is doomed then. Guess we'll just have to wait for FFXIII to fix everything.

Xbox IGN, such quality.

Simple pause during cut-scenes seems like a small thing to implement however or even skip for those who just want to move on. Although I can't see the point of docking big points for just that.

Also, what I don't understand is why SE keeps giving these guys exclusive reviews. Haha, there is no point.

guessing this guy just love shoot n slash, and has no intention to sit down and dig deep into the genius union/formation/character grind system

and IMHO the western RPG is lost in some way, simplifying the battle/level system to cater the casual audiences
