Nope. In every other Trek space battle I recall, shields look like this:

They didn't in any of the TOS films, where they were apparently skin tight. The E-E simply got an upgrade between the two movies and used skin tight shields again. Simple.

wow watched that again in English and yeah its not really to my liking. To funny how that preview had Simon Pegg saying so many buzz lines. Just seemed like to much work to make him a funny joke line guy. Then you are told he wrote this....is it really that obvious.

Daqfuq is that shit supposed to be the tractor beam? Somehow I think they might not want to use the one on the captain's yacht.

Back in the early days when they had no idea where to make an energy beam come from.

Yeah the E-E did get a few visual upgrades between FC and Nemesis, different paint scheme, a few more photon launchers etc.

That's not a tractor beam, that looks like when the enterprise projects energy, like when charging another ship or feeding energy aliens.

The choreography was decent, but I nitpicked that fight to death and I can't say I like it at all for highly subjective reasons. Retconning the Enterprise-E's shields to not be a bubble and "FULL REVERSE"-ing against inertial dampeners (?) were dumb as fuck.
WOW, I didn't even notice that they did that. Now I gotta watch it again on Netflix (if it's still on there).

EDIT: Nevermind, there are screencaps. Yeah, that is a silly change. Bubble 4 lyfe until your shields fail, then it's all about that sweet, sweet outer hull damage.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure it isn't. At least not in the States; maybe it is where you live. They've been gradually letting their Trek licenses expire lately, not because Trek is doing poorly (quite the contrary, it's routinely delivered incredible numbers) but because CBS is no doubt trying to cling to it for All-Access.

The trailer has grown on me. Pegg written and Lin directed it was always bound to have this tone. Pegg can get philosophical enough for Trek and Lin is a good director. Really if its as fun as GotG with just the right moral at the end it might just bd a good Trek movie.

Just checked online, it's still there! :D Will watch the whole battle scene tonight.

Off road vehicles in a Star Trek. Never seen that before.

Movie looks really fun and original. Being stuck on the ship works for tv but I much rather see the crew explore alien planets than run around the ship for another film.

IDK why, but I kept expecting this to be an elaborate fake. I thought Pegg was excited about this. I thought bro got our back.

He should be excited. This looks like a fun movie.

Honestly I'm going to be less critical of Beyond regardless, what with a new show en route.

Damn, you guys are hard to please.

I thought it looked great. Can't wait for this.

And I don't even like Star Trek or Wars (even less) I've never watched the show. Just the first two movies.

And I don't even like Star Trek

That's why.

Mind you, I'm a rare breed and I admit it. I've watched it all, multiple times. Lived and breathed the franchise since birth. And I think this looks good.

But general rule of thumb with nuTrek: the less old Trek someone has watched, the likelier they are to not think it's terrible.

I've seen everything. Trek 2009 is great. Into Darkness was a fun movie.

I can't express in words how much I loathe the steaming pile of shit I just watched. I knew it was going to be shit when they made their production/director choices by sweet merciful crap... that bike jump is Star Trek jumping the shark - for real.

You haven't watched much Trek, have you?

The sad reality is that 90 seconds of LinTrek is still better than 3 hours of JJTrek though.

Hmmm the breakdown shows a scene where Kirk is shooting aliens on some starfleet facility on Dubai/Earth? Maybe being stuck on the planet is just part of the movie?

Trek 09 had some lunacy in it about the asinine desire to change the timeline, but it worked to create this 'extended' universe. The Wrath of Khan remake misfired many time - that much is certain. The 'new' universe has its issues - but they've never tried to REALLY turn it into Fast and Furious 2K Turbo Edition like they are doing with this one.

Your user name is Rodney McKay. You are automatically entitled to post uber-cynically. And yet you chose to post thoughtful criticism instead.

I don't know how I feel about this.
Maybe I'm nice guy alternate universe Rodney!

Sounds pretty cynical to me.

Forgot all about that, you're right.
Yeah, I mention that because this movie looks similar to the Voyager where they land on the desert planet and the shitty early season enemies steal their ship and leave them there.

Star Trek Into Darkness's bullshit kinda broke my ability to be truly cynical toward other movies.
-Genetically engineered people's blood can cure not just illnesses, but also DEATH!? Fuck you.
-The Enterprise goes from getting its ass kicked next to the moon (while being parked in place) and then after defeating the evil big ship it is CRASHING INTO EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE?! How close is the moon to Earth in the future?! Fuck that.
Into Darkness and Prometheus kinda broke me when it comes to stupidity in Sci-fi movies.

If this movie managed to avoid anything as stupid as that, it might at least not make my blood boil. As is from this trailer it just looks like a generically dumb action movie, instead of an EXCEPTIONALLY stupid movie like Into Darkness.

Would've really liked it if they went with music that fit better. Soured me on the whole trailer... the movie I feel will be a lot better than this.

so philosophical

Even this stupid-ass episode had Kirk figuring out how to do primitive chemistry and engineering to construct a rudimentary cannon from materials in the environment, followed by a question of morality about killing your enemies or not, followed by meeting a weird fucking alien space god.

It's one of those trailer where I'm watching it and I should understand it but it goes completely over my head and then it's done.

I think the song threw my off.

This is a joke post right?
I despise Into Darkness and found 2009 pretty average.

I think the aesthetic is fine, just everything that happened in the movie made for a boring film. My feeling is that if they wanted to turn Star Trek into an action franchise all along, Justin Lin is a better fit that JJ.

Not much of a Star Trek fan, but I really liked the first film and thought the second was okay. This trailer... not feeling it at all.

Don't you see? Throwing a rock means there's not philosophy or depth. ToS is just as much of action shlock as the new movies!

Origin stories tend to be boring. They spend a lot of time plodding through events to try and justify why things are they way that they are. That was a major issue with ST and STID. What they are doing here is the equivalent of Bayformers. With where they are headed, I wouldn't be surprised to see a bumper sticker and a metallic ball sack hanging from the back of the Enterprise.

Truly, watching this trailer is like opening a Christmas present early and finding a turd in the box...

Have to admit, I hated it the first three times I watched it.

But now I'm thinking a Star Trek minus the ship thing might be interesting. I have a lot of faith in Simon Pegg, though.

So basically, Enterprise is exploring the frontier, gets shot down onto an alien/lawless planet, and the entire thing is a survival story?

I can dig that, honestly.

THEY CURED DEATH THOUGH, SO WHO GIVES A FUCK

Ill see it. Love me some Star Trek, especially the new movies.

That said, the trailer wasnt anything special. As long as Sabotage is in it, itll be a winner.
