I'm gonna mold my voice to be like his, I will then rake in all the women
and men

Well, I wish you the best of luck. I too shall rake in the women. And some men.

Maybe he's really Joachim and he's triggering a war between the Klingons and Federation, a war Starfleet can't win. Maybe he's doing this so that Khan and his augments can return as saviors in the next movie, and use that as a means of reclaiming control over Earth.

Looks so stupid and over produced. I guess they figure no one gives a shit about Star Trek under normal circumstances, so you have to spice it up with huge explosions and lots of things blowing up.

The entire series of LOST soundtracks and the entire series of BSG soundtracks get constant rotation at work. Such amazing and listenable scores. Love it.

Well... yea.

No one but Trekkies were seeing the movies anymore and even they were getting sick of them with each doing worse than the last. Last Trek made nearly 6x what the last flop did.

Curious. Please clarify.

Explosions, jumping, things crashing...it's like uh, is this Star Trek or Transformers with lens flare? The longer trailer from a month ago is even worse imo.

And I'd imagine most viewers saw that and were like "so...who is that bad guy and why should I care."

Looks badass as hell. Star Wars is in good hands as far as I'm concerned.

I would imagine your idea of a summer blockbuster would be a real snoozer.

You did that on purpose didn't you?

Forgive me for being slow, but I have no idea what you are getting at. I really love basically everything that Abrams has ever directed, so I'm pretty sure I'll like his vision of Star Wars. Or did I create some kind of pun that I haven't caught yet? lol

Maybe he's future-Sherlock who's gone insane from having no mysteries to solve.

Hello. Are you ready for the story? This is the story of Sir Bored-a-lot. Sir Bored-a-lot was the bravest and cleverest knight at the round table, but soon the other knights began to grow tired of his stories about how brave he was and how many dragons he'd slain, and some of them began to wonder, "Are Sir Bored-a-lot's stories even true?" Oh no. So, one of the knights went to King Arthur and said, "I don't believe Sir Bored-a-lot's stories. He's just a big, old liar who makes things up to make himself look good." And then, even the king began to wonder, but that wasn't the end of Sir Bored-a-lot's problems. No. That wasn't the final problem. The final problem was creating a black hole through the use of red matter so that he could travel to the future and create crimes for others to solve.

.

I hate that this has the name Star Trek on the fucking box.
Cumberlocks looked good though, and I will check this out and pretend it's not ST :)

The Star Trek movies were always pretty much action/adventure films so I don't really know why this is suddenly so different and horrible.

But we've had this argument hundreds of times on here already.

Isn't because people are expecting it to be more like the show?

I don't know why they would have that expectation if the previous 30 years of Trek films have never worked that way. Only the first movie was similar to the original series and most people consider it quite boring. I enjoy it for what it is (the score is killer, too) but there's a reason why Wrath of Khan was made in spite of Roddenberry's opposition.

and here we are falling into this cyclical discussion again ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

If I were a huge-ass Star Trek fan that was a kid during 60's, I would be happy that this film is being made with this kind of production at all. With a great crew and budget behind it, too.

I liked the first Star Trek JJ film, but I can't imagine those fans from that announcement up to the film's release. Must've been something special to them.

very short trailer, but Cumberbatch makes me quiver with anticipation.

Now JJ, do the one good thing you could do and take Benedict to Star Wars with you.

TNG movies yes, but none of the original series films would really qualify as action films.

If you're talking about Star Trek II, it merged the best of Star Trek's emphasis on ideas and people with action.

I like new Star Trek, but it almost wholly placed its emphasis on laser battles, fist fights, and explosions.

It's like people forget that TRAILERS are super condensed snippets to gain popular interest in a film.

Guess what? STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS will still be STAR TREK. But the trailers will always be for Joe Average. They want to fill seats. They did the same damned thing with ST'09 and it worked like a charm. Those people will see STID as well, and guess what? They're part of the target audience, too.

If you come out with something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfBbpyiK7ds
No one's going to go.

Old-trek style trailers are snoozefests and the box office suffered because of it.

I was at a pretty diverse super bowl party last night and multiple girls started screaming CUMBERBATCH when the ad started (or, one girl did and then others joined in). I couldn't stop laughing.

I'm thinking Cumberbatch does what he does in this film to prepare Earth for Kahn? Like maybe he knows this threat is coming or so,etching.

It's a mad theory I know.

Like the teaser, but dear God, the "I'm such a diabolical villain that I will allow myself to be caught just so I can escape" trope needs to be retire for a while to recharge.

Trailer got me hyped because of Cumberbatch but at this point I'd really like to know a little bit about the actual story, not just random scenes of chaos intermixed with out of context dialog which means nothing.
