Star vs. the Forces of Evil |OT| I'm From Another Dimension

Sleepover was actually tense (and a little frightening during the transformations). The last question especially got me thinking
if it was either Star or Marco who was lieing about their crush. The ending though already doubled down on what we already know (star likes Marco). Kinda wish they would finally just move that relationship forward instead of teasing it the whole time. I don't know how much longer Disney XD will allow this show to live :(

Gift of the Card wasn't as exciting but it was nice seeing star and Marco bond as friends.
That new villain really did not last long though, he got like 30 seconds of screen time and then he's gone. Kinda hope we start to see some real threatening enemies soon that actually pose a threat to Marco and Star.

And the
crush question came up as expected in an episode with a truth telling/detecting machine. Also more teasing. :D

Return of Badass Ludo if that ep with Glossark is anything to go by.

Saw it this morning but wanted to wait until others posted impressions.

Sleepover was pretty good overall. Marco
was finally forced to reveal his crush on Jackie but actually questioned whether what he felt was legit. At least she wasn't repulsed, maybe there can be something there. I got a laugh when Marco tried to back out of the game and Star wand-blasted his ass and dragged him back.

Gift of the Card was the odd one, but I think it ended well.
Introduced to a potential new baddy only to have him vaporized by a one-shot. Harsh. But he might be able to regenerate himself from what's left of his hand, being a mutant lizard and all.
These episodes are definitely building up to something later, but in the meantime we get cute friendship moments so I'm satisfied.

I haven't seen more than five episodes total of this series, the latest two included, but if all the series is more or less in the caliber of today's premiere, I'll have to give it more of a chance. I find the art style lovely (really dig those Scott Pilgrimsque eyes), but the first episode I saw (Star being jealous of some guy who moved in with the Díaz) left me lukewarm, like, alright and that was it. The Princess Academy episode was a substantial improvement, the Girls' Day Out one was rather boring overall...but these last two were great fun. Several laughs all the way through and a lot of personality quirks that are endearing to hell and back (something as simple as a giddy Marco walking in the direction opposite of his room, to say nothing of the chemistry with Star). If all the series is this good I may have to go back and rewatch what I've missed. Please tell me stuff like Girls Day Out is the exception and not the norm.

First season was alright it got better towards the end overall it was 7/10 for me. Second two has been much better and made one character that I didn't care for be a legit interesting character now.

Sleepover got real intense in the second half. Marco had a stand out moment questioning if he was just putting Jackie on a pedestal and not getting to know who she truly was. There may be hope for Marco after all considering in the end,
Jackie was unsure of her crush.
Also, the ending finally admitted what's been teased for a while.

Gift of the Card was worth it just to see such an imposing looking villain struggle to start a chainsaw and end up getting taken out in mere seconds.

That speech delivery was GOAT, even the game was basically like "holy shit man that was fucking beautiful".

OK haven't watch this show yet but the theme song is godly is there a full version of it or is it really only 30 sec cause it's damn addicting to listen to

Sleepover was definitely one of the great, new episodes.
Poor Star! Her brownies were never liked, not even by her biggest fan.
OMG that tease at the end!

For Gift of the Card, maybe I was slightly disappointed with the build up of Rasticore
getting already killed off by the gift card just as he is facing off against Star and Marco and Miss Heinous not exactly doing much after being absent since her debut episode.
But I did genuinely laugh at the running gag of him trying to start the chainsaw.

Might be way early but the posters for the next set of eps are out

I'm expecting a certain group to go crazy over the first one (unless they actually dont exist her....hahahahaha what am i saying)

October 3rd
Friendenemies - When Tom vies for Marco’s company instead of Star’s, Marco becomes suspicious.

October 10th
Hungry Larry - Star and Marco help Mr. Diaz create the scariest Haunted House on the block.
Spider with a Top Hat - Star’s most entertaining spell, Spider with a Top Hat, wants to become a fighting spell instead.

Also the first issue of comic book series "Deep Trouble" comes out today:

me: It's gonna get a little weird,
gonna get a little wild...

LOL

Game of Flags was really good. It had those dark undertones I've noticed a lot in these episodes this season. Girls Day Out was okay though I still don't know what to make of Janna (I honestly feel like she might important in the future).

Those next two episodes look really interesting though...

Yeah, I really liked Game of Flags.
The animation continues to be fantastic in this show.

So, finally caught up with Star last night.

Man, this show keeps getting better and better.

To be honest, i like Jenna being the new regular, so much better than Marco's dorky friends, even if she's kinda weird. It mellows with Star's own brand of strange, if that makes sense.

So for that Sleepover episode, holy shit, Star-GAF. And I thought Gravity Falls liked to tease people like that! Both Star and Marco's speeches definitely reminded me of something Dipper would say.

And that poster, I'm having tweek and craig flashbacks

I don't think Star genuinely knows that she likes Marco. Like her speech said, her brain thinks she likes Oscar (and maybe she kinda does) but in her heart she likes Marco. I think there will be a realization episode in the future where she finally realizes her feelings toward him.

But then what was in the chapter of her journal that made her so adamant for him to not read and to the point she dipped down to open the closet and free him.

Maybe it hints at this internal conflict?

Anyways it should be interesting to see this all unfold.

I liked yesterday's episodes. Friend-enemies was fun and added some personality to Tom. Is Mystery was decent but I don't think it advanced the story much. Star already knows that ludo has a wand though I guess that cheese palace was meant to represent that ludo has plans for the Mewni Kingdom?

Ludo also made it known again that he needs "that book", hopefully Buff Frog took note because it's going to be important.

Ludo's come a long way since episode 2 of the new season: he's slowly building up a new army. But instead of leading a cadre of (once) loyal monsters who believed in his vision, he rules with fear and enslavement not to mention going mad because of that wand. Really curious on where this will go.

Of course friend enemies isn't what a certain group was expecting :P

Was a fun ep though and gives Tom some more development.

I don't think she knows how crazy he has gotten though and his plans. Also the part where he basically says 1 of toffee's lines ad verbatim during a similar scenario is kinda creepy

And i'm wondering who is the wand "voice"? Toffee?
would be hilarious if Michael C. Hall is voicing something similar to the "Dark Passenger" in this series

Y'all sleeping. Last night's episode(s) were great. One part fun romp, one part build-up.

tumblr_oehvvzieoJ1u7i3jco1_500.gif

That part was great, love the smug/innocent look.

Finally caught all the way up.

This season has really upped the ante, and I already liked season 1.

I have an assumption on how this season ends, just from years of consuming entertainment.

Star is either gonna end up back home with no way to come back to Earth.

Or her famiily/Mewmans are going to be exiled from Mewni (maybe to Earth, maybe elsewhere).

One would be a pretty sad cliffhanger, the other would allow for so much fuckery.

Then again this show has been able to swerve expectations pretty well.

Based on the recent, generalized promo Disney XD has been airing and the themes of certain episodes like Game of Flags and Mr. Candle Cares I get the feeling that Star's status as the royal heir will come to play at some point and that she will have to choose whether she wants to inherit the throne and become Queen (which will probably mean the end of her Earth adventures) or break away and become her own person. But maybe not until Season 3.

Though Ludo succeeding in dethroning the Mewni aristocracy is just as likely a scenario. Hell, they might even tie together.

Also here's an interesting headcanon I came across: You've probably noticed that Marco has made some interesting revelations during Season 2:
- likes boy band music (probably unironically)
- finds ballet shoes comfy as fuck
- wants to know what it's like to be a Queen

What if... now bear with me... what if there's a plot reason for this? Remember back in Season 1 during the St. Olga episode? When he was strapped to a chair and was forced to endure a little bit of brainwashing before being rescued by Star? Brainwashing on how to be a proper princess, no less. Maybe he's still feeling the effects of that. Just thought that was interesting, although I think most people would prefer that Marco just naturally likes those things because he's kind of a goofball.

I've actually had the same thought a while back. Although Ponyhead seems devoid of any lingering side effects, Marco might be special in that regard.

Friendenemies was an entertaining episode. Tom and Marco have an fun dynamic to off of. Is Mystery was way weirder than I thought. It didn't really reveal much besides Ludo having his own corn fields but it really goes to show just how powerful and deranged Ludo has become. Someone already mentioned this, but it's pretty creepy how he said something Toffe did nearly verbatim.

Didn't have much free time to post my thoughts on last week's episodes.

Enjoyed Friend-enemies a whole lot and more of the interactions between Marco and Tom. I especially laughed at the little music number they did near the end of the episode.

Is Mystery continues to build up Ludo's arc well. It does seem the wand is controlling Ludo and
now Buff Frog needs to warn Star about Ludo's plot to destroy the Mewni Castle.

And a preview clip for Hungry Larry.

And looks like another leak from the Sky Germany channel had leaked two more episodes that come after this week's.

Into the Wand -
Star needs Glossarycks help to find out what part of her Wand is broken, and how it can be fixed.

Pizza Thing -
Marco and Pony Head have to get a Pizza for a movie night, while dealing with a series of misfortunes.

Wow I really never thought of all this now that you mentioned it. I really enjoyed those gags about Marco liking girl stuff, but didn't take into consideration the St. Olga episode.

Hypothetically if that were the case, I would think the reason Pony Head didn't get any side effects of that brainwashing but Marco did was simply due to the latter simply being.... well a human being.

I really liked both of those episodes. Hungry Larry was pretty creepy. Marco's dad is such a lovable character and it was great seeing him saving the day, albeit in a terrifying way.

Spider with a Top Hat was surreal as hell. I did not expect to find out that
all of Star's spells actually live together in her wand.
This episode actually got really dramatic at points, especially the ending. Spider with a Top Hat's story was really endearing and I hope we see more of the character.

Was nice seeing Marco's dad getting serious given his usual demeanor and Spider hat Gatling gun was fucking dope.

Also another enemy Star and Marco are unable to beat

Ok, once is a gag, but now the show is making it a thing.

Where the fuck is Marco getting all that money from where he can literally just let 650 dollars blow away in the wind?

Both episodes were pretty great.

Hungry Larry was pretty creepy. That effect where his sheet floated down and then revealed his engorged form was awesome.

And the show has been dropping little nuggets in season 2/S1 finale. I wonder if there's gonna be some friction Marco (maybe Star) and his parents soon.

A good show seems to be turning great.

Yo, Hungry Larry was legitimately creepy near the end of that episode.

I really love a cartoon that can look really cute and funny, but turn around and make you go "WOW...that was unsettling.".

I agree. It seemed even creepier that he was voiced by Billy West do I mostly heard Professor Farnsworth.

Spider with a top hat was fun, but it makes me wonder just what kind of monster would have Star and Marco on the ropes like that? Are we going to get an episode with their side of the events?

You know looking back, Rasticore Chaosus Disastervayne is a pretty freaking cool name. Think I'll name my first son that.

Or first daughter, whichever comes first.

updates!

Promo for next week's Into The Wand and Pizza Thing.

some interesting stuff hidden in those quick cuts

EDIT: random thing but
lol

The previous matriarchs look soooo cool with their portraits, especially Moon. I wonder what the deal was between her and Toffee

Holy moly!
"Into The Wand " was great.
Lore bombs, lore bombs everywhere!

All those Mewni/Butterfly Queens, so many queens; badass warrior queens, beautiful girly queens, QUEEEENS everywhere!"
Speaking of queens, "Queen Moon the Undaunted" is a badass title; like, I really love the way this crew has been handling the development of Queen Moon.
She's gone from a tertiary stuffy parent character to key figure in everything.

On the subject of Eclipsa, her running off with a monster and fleeing Mewni has got to have something to do with Miss Heinous' backstory. Mewnipendence day already hinted at the Mewmen's genocidal conquistador-esque past, it would only make sense for the royal family to eventually produce somebody who'd break away from that legacy and sympathize with the native monsters in some way.

Into the Wand feels like it's hinting at a Star and Monster alliance sometime in the future. She nowhere near as antagonistic towards monsters as her family seems to be.

I enjoyed both episodes. The multiple Stars were a bit weird and I honestly thought Glossaryk picked the wrong one at the end.
