Star vs. the Forces of Evil |OT| I'm From Another Dimension

Cool to see lots of people are liking the new episodes, specifically the 2nd one considering how different it is.

A bit off-topic but has anyone else realized how amazing the soundtrack to this show is. I've been listening to it on Youtube and it's just perfect for what the show is.

It's pretty good.

What I remember noticing upon watching the Season 2 premieres, however, is that background music was mostly missing (especially in Ludo In The Wild) for dramatic effect.

Gotta say that watching Ludo In The Wild really made me turn around on Ludo as a character. He was always kind of annoying to me in S1, but this episode really made me wanna see more of his change. Anybody else feel the same?

I love affably evil antagonists, so Ludo never bothered me. Really excited to see how he develops over the season.

Fervent reminder that a new episode premieres tomorrow morning @ 10:30am/9:30c.

New Episodes!!!

S2, Episode 2: Mr Candle Cares & Red Belt

Watch S2 episode 2 of “Star vs. the Forces of Evil” monday July 18th at 10:30am/9:30c on Disney XD!

Official S2 show posters by Becky Dreistadt.

These were posted days ago. I'm slippin'.

Mr. Candle Cares was pretty great. Star's look at the end was crazy and the guidance counselor riding out the windown on a goddamn file cabinet was a bizzare and brilliant ending.

Mr. Candle Cares was an excellent episode. Some good laughs (that ending was pitch-perfect) and some development for the spurned ex. Anger management therapy seems to be paying off. Star's issues with Queendom also gets some focus, which was good. The ship-teasing was fun.

Red Belt was... not as great. Some good symbolism during the dream, but the rest of the episode fell a little flat. I noticed Star is going to great lengths to not use her wand, that she can't even conjure up a simple hammer is telling. Also once again the lack of background music is noticeable. I wonder why they chose to do that? It didn't help this episode at all.

Promo for next week's episodes, "Star on Wheels" and "Fetch" is now online:

Yup, "Mr. Candles Care" was a pretty great episode; had me some great laughs.

Really hope Tom's character development continues to get better.

And although not as great, "Red Belt" was pretty decent.

But I did chuckle at the lawyer-friendly cameo of Ken Masters from Street Fighter.

New Episodes!!!

S2, Episode 3: Star on Wheels & Fetch

Watch S2 episode 3 of “Star vs. the Forces of Evil” monday July 25th at 10:30am/9:30c on Disney XD!
Daron Nefcy

Also her site mentions that she'll be present during Comic-Con for 3 different panels & a signing (2 Star-related) starting tomorrow. Seems they're going to show some exclusive clips from the show there.

Star on Wheels and Fetch were both fantastic episodes. The music was on point in both, specifically the final piano tune in Fetch. It's really nice seeing Star relying less and less on magic to solve her problems, with Marco trusting her in braking the bike and her helping Willowbee find an owner.

Concerned reminder that the next episode premieres tomorrow morning.

Also, wanted to post synopsii for upcoming episodes:

Monday, August 1st
"Star Vs. Echo Creek" -
Star goes into hiding after accidentally destroying a car.
"Wand to Wand" -
Star and Ludo struggle to learn how to use their new wands.

Monday, August 8th
"Starstruck" -
When Star's biggest hero Mina Loveberry, a rogue magic-wielder from Mewni, loses her mojo for battle, Star attempts to help her get it back.
"Camping Trip" -
King Butterfly pays a surprise visit to Star during the Diaz family camping trip and brings with him his own brand of camping.

Monday, August 15th
"Starsitting" -
When Star and Marco are in charge of watching Buffrog's tadpoles, the duo's babysitting styles clash.
"On the Job" -
Buffrog has to complete an important mission in order to care for his kids.

Well "Star vs Echo Creek" was pretty good, though kind of underwhelming to me.

"Wand to Wand" was great, giving us a start on Ludo developing his wand
skills.
And a cleaved wand is worse than I imagined.

Promo for next week's episode "Starstruck/Camping Trip."

So Mina Loveberry is lawyer-friendly parody of Sailor Moon. Kind of thought Star herself was one. And she shares the same name as Minako from Sailor Moon.

So Star is insane.

And not in the cutesy offbeat way, in the this person will/has caused someone's death accidentally (or not).

Also seem to be foreshadowing pretty hard she's going to hide from a problem and royally screw somebody over.

Woah! Completely didn't know season 2 had already started! Just bought the season pass and probably going to binge it the rest of the night.

hoping toffee makes a return this season, dude's too cool to die

Woah...this is back? Season 1 was pretty great. Seems Like I'll need to find some time to catch up. They streaming these on Disney XD's site?

Starstruck felt pretty by the numbers but it's definitely continuing the theme of Star becoming more and more distant from her old life away from Earth.

Camping Trip was pretty nice. I enjoyed the Terminator reference and Star's dad is always an entertaining character to have around.

I also caught up on the previous two episodes. Both are really enforcing the theme of magic not solving Star's problems. Ludo continues to be a much better character this season and his discovery of the wand's powers was enjoyable to watch. I'm expecting a showdown between him and Star in the future soon.

Well both new episodes turned out to be great, especially the one focused on Buff Frog.
And just how much more can Ludo gain, now that he has enslaved the rats as well?

And the next set of promotional posters for Goblin Dogs and By the Book.

And from the same link, new episodes won't be airing again until Sept. 12th and they will air at a new time, which is Mondays at 7:30PM/6:30c. And a good call for folks in the Pacific Coast (like me), that don't have the west coast version of Disney XD and don't have to worry about getting up early to catch the first airing.

Catching up to the show and am currently watching Ludo in the Wild.
Him eating the scraps dropped by the Spider is something I did not expect to see in a kid's show.
I LOVE IT!

Friendly reminder that Star Vs. The Forces of Evil returns Monday, September 19th @ 7:30PM.

New promo for "Goblin Dogs/By the Book"

Also we have episode descriptions for upcoming episodes:
"Goblin Dogs" -
Star and her friends wain in the longest food truck line ever for the universe's best hot dog, the Goblin Dog.
"By the Book" -
After an argument with Star, Glossaryk goes into hiding in a donut box. While Star and Marco try to convince him to come out of hiding, Ludo plots to capture Star.

"Game of Flags" -
Star competes in the Game of Flags at the Butterfly-Johansen family reunion against her mother's orders.
"Girls' Day Out" -
When Star is nominated as Mayor of Detention, she must help her constituents with their various problems.

"Sleepover" -
Marco sets out to impress Jackie at Star's slumber party, but a magical truth-telling game threatens to reveal too much for Star.
"Gift of the Card" -
Marco must use a gift card before it expires with catastrophic results.

Neat.

Anyone else dislike Season 2? Feels off and doesn't have the same sense of comedy it once did.
Does seem like they're holding back or something. I know they hired some new people to write and direct episodes, including Giancarlo Volpe who's worked on Avatar, Green Lantern The Animated Series and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Update: new episodes of Star Vs. will air every Monday until October 10th starting on the 12th (tomorrow!). Apparently the preview clip I linked to in the last post was for the Canadian premiere, which airs a week late.

So Goblin Dogs/By the Book airs tomorrow @ 7:30pm

Leaked titles of upcoming episodes are also in the wild:

Friendenemies/Is Mystery
Trick or Treat/Haunted Couch
Hungry Larry/Spider With a Top Hat

How is that a spoiler? If anything it should be celebrated, the school kids have had little to no interactions with the main cast since season 2 began. The real spoiler is how deep their interactions will go... Janna is one of the biggest question marks on the show.

Probably not related but I noticed Disney XD has used only a generic promo to advertise Monday night's episode. We're basically going in blind... if you ignore the above poster arts and the episode descriptions.

Janna is an enigma. From what I remember she has some strange obsession with Marco but other than that she just seems to be the "weird girl" in the school.

I guess when you put it that way, we are only a day away from the new episodes premier. But I usual use spoiler tags in order to avoid supposedly ruining the surprise to others.

But sure will un-spoil that.

And now that you mentioned generic promos, according to Daron Nefcy, Disney XD won't be doing promos for every episode.

Update: Just watched Goblin Dogs and By the Book without interruptions. For the former episode Kelly was very cute and a pretty, good reminder that lying is never right. And for the latter episode, it's amazing that Ludo's arc continues to escalate. With the mention that his wand was "talking" to him, it's now making me feel that
Toffee is in fact possessing Ludo's wand
. My guess, of course.

Looking forward to seeing Janna being a major character for an episode.

A German TV source has revealed episode descriptions for a pair of future episodes:

Friendenemies -
Marco is sceptical about Tom’s motives when he doesn’t return for Star, but for him.
Is Mystery -
Buff Frog has to figure out who’s responsible for the hole in the forcefield.

This is a twisted show.

The weird characters, the celebration of violence, the cruel humor.

It's like early Adventure Time before AT turned into what AT turned into.

I laughed like an idiot at the scene of one of the Butterflies just stomping the shit out of two peoples hands.

That was fun.

tumblr_inline_ods0dlzsNz1te43d5_540.gif

And dark. Once again, Marco has to open Star's eyes to just how fucked up her shared Mewni traditions are. And being able to see Moon's
butterfly transformation
was icing on the cake.

The second part wasn't as good. Rather mundane really until the final sequence. But it's good that Star and Janna finally connected, I just hope it doesn't get ignored later. One curiosity was how easily Janna was able to manipulate Star into doing what she wanted. Keep thinking they have plans for her.

Game of Flags was really good. It had those dark undertones I've noticed a lot in these episodes this season. Girls Day Out was okay though I still don't know what to make of Janna (I honestly feel like she might important in the future).

Those next two episodes look really interesting though...

Game of flags was fun, loved the humor in it. Girls Day out was meh and could maybe be skipped all together unless Janna and Stars relationship builds up from this.

Next two episodes look dank.

I have a friend who thinks that lizard guy is related to toffee.

It's funny reading this thread and people commenting about the "return" of Janna, when honestly... I barely even remember this character existing in the first place lol. And I've watched every single episode so far.

But that's sort of emblematic of my overall experience with this show. I can't really put my finger on why, but I hardly care about anything that happens; nothing really sticks for me. After every session I'm just kinda feeling, "yup, that was a cartoon /shrug"

I don't see myself dropping the show any time soon. Technically and artistically, it's quality stuff. And somtimes there are legit clever and wacky gags, sprinkled in dark humor. Beyond that? I dunno, man. It's been a decent time waster, fitting comfortably in the background noise category.
