Star Wars Battlefront II |BETA| Execute Pre-Order 66

Guys, posted my thread over on reddit (only visuals and sound feedback for now, will do gameplay feedback later on)

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBa...ds_of_battlefront_ii/?st=j8g21ls5&sh=c3e2fda4

Also. Doesn't anyone else find it odd that with a reduction in emotes that up and down on the d-pad are not being used, but we suddenly can't manually turn off our lightsaber anymore? Why remove these kind of things.

Probably didn't make it into the beta build?

It's baffling how people are saying that Battlefront 1 is better. Battlefront 2 is clearly the superior game, aside from the odd design choices such as the RNG progression, thin blaster bolts, and limited hit feedback. Two out of three of those problems could be addressed at or near launch; the RNG progression is worrisome though.

just installed it! here goes. hope it runs well on my PC because that's where i want to play it. i can't go back to a controller playing these games so won't be getting it on PS4.

I'm enjoying the beta and not really seeing all the hate. Although I can see that it might burn out quickly, so I'm kind of on the fence about getting it.

Also, probably a noob question: Why did I reach 5k battle points and could select Boba Fett but not Darth Maul?

Not feeling it.

As a huge SW fan its disappointing. Game feels weird to play. Clunky somehow.

Regret buying this :/

Upvoted, but as I mentioned yesterday with Reddit, a quality post is being drowned out by repeated threads asking questions that have been answered 100 times, how long will the beta last? how to mute people? etc...It's so hit or miss as to what will gain traction and what won't, you're already at the bottom of the "newest" page not 25 minutes in.

Edit: Not even on the first page anymore, lol. I just hope Dice reads gaf.

Wtf is up with the image quality in this?
Ps4 pro.

It's sorta bad on PC too on high/ultra settings. Seems like some combination of chromatic aberration, film grain, and some needless tv scanline type effect.

Also, probably a noob question: Why did I reach 5k battle points and could select Boba Fett but not Darth Maul?

I think if a teammate is currently controlling a hero, you can't also spawn as them. So at that time there was probably a Maul out in the field, but not a Fett.

well that's not a good start.

completely maxed out the game looks worse than the first one somehow. then my computer completely freezes.

It's best to give feedback on the game's official forums. They had an alpha forum, so there should be a beta one as well. I'll be compiling my feedback and submitting it there in the next few days.

Is anyone else having an issue on the Xbox One version where the game complete locks up as soon as the EULA appears on screen? Can't press A to accept or B to decline, the game is just completely frozen.

X! is otherwise working completely normally.

I have to echo what a lot of others are saying. I'm just...not really feeling it.

I LOVED the first game, it was a fun arcadey departure from pure battlefield for DICE. It just seriously lacked content, so after a few months I just stopped playing it. However for those two months, it was insanely fun. The gameplay was fluid and fun, and the visuals and sound were out of this world.

This beta...I don't know man. It doesn't look nearly as good for some reason (maxed out at 1440p and getting like 100fps on a 1070). And somehow the gameplay is not nearly as fun. The shooting feels weird, not as amazing as the first game. Its hard to articulate the differences otherwise...it just doesn't feel as good.

Went from an automatic day 1 purchase to a wait and see. I play a lot of Battlefield 1, and was looking for to another more casual/fun departure in Battlefront 2...but not sure anymore.

i really dont see it burning out that quickly. the beta only gives us a small taste. all of the galactic assault maps have their own stories and set ups, theres an entire campaign, heroes vs villians mode, arcade mode, strike mode with different maps, different guns and star cards and heroes, free dlc.

i cant wait to see the rest of the game... i'm loving the class system and the gunplay this time around. i have a lot of hours in battlefront 2015, and this game improved on a lot from it and added some stuff i really wanted to see. i just cant wait to see how the campaign is and how the rest of the maps are.

This looks miles better on pc than PS4 pro. I have both betas and the pro is in a sad state atm.

I played for over 3 hours last night, so I have a better grasp of the game now.

First of all, Criterion flipping NAILED the ship-to-ship combat! I actually found myself playing and enjoying Starfighter Assault last night over the ground battle. Everything about it felt good. With the last game, I was virtually unstoppable in the air... Until they updated the mechanics and pretty much ruined the entire mode with an overheat on the lockdown and other removals/additions. And even then, it wasn't super fun. I could play a few battles and then I'd have to move on because it was all the same.

This mode is... wow! There's so much going on. Ship classes spice it up—even though I am wretched at the bomber class—I tore it up with the interceptors. I just wish the Share button functioned when I wanted it to. Anyhoo, with the last game, they had those crappy tokens you'd have to find and collect in order to play as a hero/Falcon and over the many hours I played BF1, I was the Falcon a total of 2 times. Twice! Last night, I was the Falcon after 3 matches because of the new point system.

So, Criterion, you guys deserve a raise. Now... go make a new Burnout.

As for the ground assault... also way better. I recommend NOT doing what I did and pick the officer class to start with. While they may look fun with their turrets and fancy hats and stuff, they wear wet tissue paper as uniforms and a stiff breeze will inflict injury on you. Once I realized how fragile they were (and losing severely match after match after match), I went with the soldier and heavy class to try them out. MUCH better. And if you aren't completely inept at sniper rifles like I am, the specialist class could also be useful, but not when I'm controlling one.

Anyhoo, this game is seriously fun. I was worried that by making this more Battlefield-like that I—a filthy casual—would start to feel outclassed in every encounter, but once I found a class that clicked with me, I was able to hold my own. Unlike in Battlefield where I was just a human meat shield for the other, better players around me.

The game still needs to cook a little longer though. At one point, it just randomly decided to not count any of my progress. No leveling up, no rewards, no progression on my daily assignments, nothing until I restarted the game. And then it also froze in-between loading screens once as well. But that's what betas are for, right?

All-in-all, if you thought the first Battlefront was lackluster and vacant... this one, so far, has fixed every problem that I can see. Well... I still am missing the character appearance customization. But maybe that's just not present in this build.

finally some praise lol. i havent spent much time with the starfighter mode but what i did play i preferred way more than 2015. i love the ground battles. it feels so star wars. being a clone trooper just makes me so dang happy. its been so much fun i just need the full game asap.

and people found customization options in the files, so itll be there!

I'm having the same issue.

Only one of each hero can be out of a time, someone may have picked him before you did.

Oh so that's it, thanks!

I don't mean it content wise, but I do think the actual shooting lacks a bit of punch. Different settings don't do much to compensate for that. I dunno, we'll see. At this rate it'll get very mixed reviews and drop price pretty fast, so maybe I'll get it.

What do i need to change the FOV field in the settings file to get 90 degree FOV?

GstRender.FieldOfView 1.000000 is the default, and based on menu corresponds to 55 degrees. Is it a percentage?

So I'm using a controller on PC (yes I know) and it's really annoying how the aiming is set up here, direct up and down movement is different from diagonal aiming and it's suuuper slow and you can't change it. I can't really tell if there is aim assist like BF1 on PC because i can't aim for shit anyway. Battlefront 1 on PC was better than this and that didn't even have aim assist. You also can't adjust sensitivity when you aim down the sights if you're using a controller either

So what is the deal with the mouse acceleration/delay when flying? It feels so off, like there's no precision or a huge input latency, is there an optimal setting or fix to avoid this?

Not feeling this at all.
Slow, clunky controls.
Lame, confusing progression system.
Terrible squad system.
No overhead map to pick spawn points.
No way to start your own squad and play with friends.

This is what you get when trying to please everyone.

I haven't played yet, but I'm not surprised they dialed back the graphics. The first game could get quite stuttery on the base PS4.

I guess its fun to play for a moment and then you switch to other games.
Was not planning to buy it and i even played the first one for about 30 hours. And this didnt change alot.
Still sucks that DICE can step away for indoor sections with 3 doors and grenade spam. They dont learn. Big problem since Battlefield 3 already. Then they fix it abit and then the next game has it again.

I fixed my login issue, played two games, and ....boy, beyond being undeniably Star Wars, and capturing that romantic, nostalgic love I have for that universe there is not much to like here at all. I will definitely play the single player and might give the multiplayer a bit more time, but I think that will be over a rental.

Hopeful I can get a bit more time in and change my opinion but everything from the mediocrity of the classes and the weapons, the janky movement, the bad hit detection, is just so average.

That FPS overlay is hard to read. Why so many things in it? Which one am i looking at?

Ah, well, it runs well enough. The minimum specs as listed seem pretty high, considering i play with non-overclocked 6600K.

Also had forgotten how much i hate sprinting and unlocks in shooters... (I haven't played any shooters since... January, maybe.)

I'll tell you right now without any hesitation whatsoever, coming from someone who played Battlefront 1 for many months, that at this moment in time in this beta, Battlefront 1 LOOKS 100% better than Battlefront 2. Im sure its this filter that everyone is talking about, and i hope its removeable at some point, but theres no doubt that the 1st looks so much better in image quality, laser blasts, you name it.

Shooting sucks. Too much recoil, and low visibility bolts make it difficult to tell if i hit.
Blurry graphics don't help, too much motion blur and CA and other stuff.

Miss my superb E-11 (I didn't use any other weapons in BF1 really, T-21 occasionally but that's it).

I am with you, I loved the first game and the BETA on the Walker Assault on Hoth sold the game to me, I had the season pass and I had eighteen months of enjoyable play, but this BETA is pretty poor after a couple of plays, the flying seems weird compared to the first game as well.

It seems that all he things that people wanted in the first game they now have and the game imo is worse for it, going to keep on with the BETA but I can really see myself cancelling my order for this.

So the Pro version is definitely going to look better at launch right? There's no way it would stay like this right...? Cause I came from playing battlefront 1 on Xbox one and feel that the PS4 Pro battlefront 2 somehow looks worse that THAT even. It's just the beta right?

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to game development so im not sure if they just save visual tuning till last or something.

Hmm they did not improve upon the BF1 beta graphics. I think this game is coming in hot.

Starting up the game. Intro movie plays... hey, man the music is still great, this doesn't look half bad ... "Hi playaz!" *Skip*

So tired of real life people in my video games, whether it's developers or twitch/youtubers

I can't stand YouTubers like John Boyega.

Calm down. It's the trailer that they released a little while ago with John Boyega.

1) That's John Boyega
2) He said "Hello players" not "HEY PLAYAZ!"
3) He's in it for literally a second. Not seconds, a second.
4) The whole video is actually useful and tells you everything you need to know about the beta and game.
5) Holy shit you don't know who John Boyega is
