Star Wars Battlefront II |BETA| Execute Pre-Order 66

I'm determined to see the attackers win a single time on Theed today. Haven't had a team even make it to the throne room phase once in the 4 or so hours I've been on. I honestly can't tell if it's just borked for the attackers, or if I'm on garbage teams.

Just won as attacker. I had been getting Darth Maul pretty much every game so I decided to check out Boba Fett. Got him during the first phase and carried him all the way to the end for the win:

He's really, really fun.

Next game we were clones and we actually almost lost. We were doing well for 1st phase but got demolished 2nd phase because they had a really, really, really good Darth Maul on their team that was basically guarding whichever door was getting hacked and murdering anyone who tried to intervene. He almost got them the win during the final phase too.

Loving this game

Edit: I do think the Naboo map is skewed in the favor of Defenders right now, but only during the 3rd phase. I think Phase 1 and 2 are fine, and the vast majority of the games I've played have gone all the way to Phase 3.

I think Phase 3 needs a few simple tweaks (Quicker time to capture, defender spawn further away from objective) and then it'll be more fairly balanced for the Attacking team.

The latter. I don't think I've ever seen a team not reach the palace.
agreed I think only once or twice we haven't reached the palace that was the easy part

As someone who never ever plays flight games the super basic starfighter controls/combat in the last game has done literally nothing to prepare me for it in this lol. I've played 3 matches, have zero kills, and most of my deaths are me running into shit because I keep doing the wrong thing on the wrong stick.

This....is going to be a bit of curve for me. Would one of the non-default control schemes be better for me? I did turn Advanced Flight on because it seems like everyone says to do that but I didn't do anything else.

I've put about 15 hours in now, and I have to restate that Theed outside of the palace is a terrible map.

Starfighter Assault grew on me as my skill level grew. I thought I hated the controls, but it finally clicked and I enjoy it much more than the Galactic Assault map. Again, that's probably just because Theed sucks.

Officer needs a buff. I tried hard to make it work, but i could barely break middle of the pack in scoring. I switch to Heavy, I'm in the top 3rd. I switched to Specialist (with 3 round burst mod) I'm in the top 3 and have Darth Maul within a few minutes. The game needs quite a bit of balancing. Assault was pretty decent. Oh, and Theed sucks.

The Maz's Palace Strike was pretty good, and I hope they get creative with some of the objectives in that mode for other maps. The Night-time raid at the beginning of Force Awakens would be awesome for this mode (I didn't play SW:BF1 2015 so I dunno if it was in that game)

I would love if there were playlists that forced FPP on everything except heroes or villains, but I won't hold it against them that much. I also really dislike the dynamic squad system. Utterly worthless. Battlefield style squads were a no-brainer with the introduction of classes, but I guess they were afraid of being too much Star Wars: Battlefield. Still, a very stupid decision in my opinion.

I'm gonna buy it. Not having a season pass for upcoming content is a big plus for me as well so I'm less scared to spend 60 bucks and not get my perceived value out of it.

Have been absolutely loving pretty much aspect of this beta. Day 1 for sure. I'm nervous about the progression being tied to loot crates, hoping maybe in the full game there will be more challenges that reward crates with guaranteed drops or something like that. The starfighter mode is gonna eat hours of my time alone.

Can I emphasize how garbage Han Solo is? Dies insanely fast, garbage primary that needs multiple hits for even basic enemies. Hitbox on his special is wanky and can't cancel, meaning you get ass blasted if someone creeps or rolls around you because of the stupid slow turn. The shoulder charge is janky and will get you killed.

Only thing that's remotely decent is the throwable charge.

And I liked this guy A LOT in the first one.

I see this complaint often yet I have no problems finding enemies. They're always in the same spots.

Right, but you have to hike to get there a lot of the time. The enemies being in the same two chokepoints at any given time usually means like 10-20% of the map is in play which is dumb. The more major issue for me though is that the first phase just takes too long, and the mode has too hard of a failstate. It's not a 1:1 comparison but for example in Walker Assault in the last game you could have the Rebels not get a single Y-Wing in the first phase but pull it out by getting a lot in the next two. Here's if the defense fails the first phase it's a game over, and alternatively if the attackers make it to the palace but with very few tickets (which has generally been my experience) they're just going to immediately get washed most of the time. I think speeding up the first phase by like 25%ish would solve these problems; you'd very rarely have a hard game over by failing to get to the palace, but the attackers would also generally get there with enough tickets to be at least decently competitive and not just have like 10+30 and get wiped immediately trying to hack the doors.

Again just my opinion from what I've personally played. I've played probably 10-12 hours of Theed at this point but it seems my experiences have been much different from everyone else here so I could be totally off base lol.

Why do people hate phase 1 but like the meatgrinder palace section? 1 AT-RT in that shit means GG for the CIS.

I hate phase 1 because it's so empty. It looks wide open, but as others have said, enemies are at the same spots. So much of it is completely unused. Plus most of the time spent is just running to the areas.

Phase 2 would be good as a strike, 10 v 10. As it stands, it feels like Battlefield 3's metro, or BF4's Operation Locker... super grindfest. Even still, I enjoy that better than phase 1. Preferences I guess.

I think something tangible that can help me explain it is that the map is lane based. It seems wide open, yet super segmented. I hate these types of maps and I think it's such a tease visually. There are doors that are permanently locked that seem like the map designer specifically made them to allow different paths to other lanes, but DICE locked them later on to force gunfights in this LoL-style lane situation. As well, if some of the phase 1 buildings along the paths had interiors, it would help the flow of the match as well i feel.

Probably didn't do a good job explaining, but those are my thoughts

It seems wrong that the laser blasts from the weapons are barely noticeable compared to Battlefront 1.

Change it Dice.

They'd be dumb not to, plenty of complaints about it, and rightfully so.

Ironic how most classes beat the assault at CQC. The heavy in general, the specialist' infiltration ability and the officer with an upgraded pistol shit all over the assault at close range.

That's what I noticed as well. When you just run and gun you get lost, but if you play the objectives you will get a hell of a match. Same goes for starfighter assault.
True. Seems like some people don't understand what to do yet and then blame it on the game/the map.

Hopefully the visuals improve in the release build. The game is already beautiful but it is definitely a step down from the first. Ive taken a ton of screens already and I would love to see how it improves. Also hope they bring the spectator mode from bf1!

The bullets in Battlefield 1 look more like lasers than the ones in Battlefront 2!

They are bigger and brighter. Not sure why they decided to tone them down so much.

The assault's base weapon kinda sucks. Super low fire rate and high recoil. Vanguard is a beast, though.

Playing this evening on PS4 and I had to wait for people to join games so there would be enough for the game to start :/ dropping off already? (this has me worried).

I still really don't know about this, the BETA needs to be extended or another updated one before launch, I was starting to 'get' it now over the first game, but it just wasn't as fun.

They have said thank you for the feedback it will help then in the final game, but in a month, really is that enough time, I mean I don't know what they will change.

For me the changes required are to fundamental;

- The class system needs to go for a start and just have it like the original, people can pick their own weapons and then they can pick what skin/alien they want to play as.

- Put the emphasis on 'playing the mission' instead of most kills.

- Have a better mission overview and explanation of what people need to actually do.

- Sort out the flying so it is more like the original.

- Make it more like Battlefront than Battlefield.

- I am not sure how this can be done, but please put the 'fun' back into playing.

My pre-order is still open, just, my finger is hovering over the cancel button though, depending on what EA/DICE (Criterion/Motive) say on the response to the BETA.

EDIT
Star Wars Battlefront 2 - New Changes Coming! Buffs and Nerfs! Star Wars HQ video.

I enjoyed the skirmish type mode and the the space battle mode but I am not enjoying the large scale mode at all, even thought I did in battlefront 1.

There's just something off about it, can't really put my finger on it.

My jetpack (as Boba.. jeesh) got bugged and I could only run from this Rey. She turned the corner and I freaking unloaded on her with the rockets, 100-0, buh-bye.

I've been fluctuating. I had 0 considerations for it being a good game until the beta came out because the first reboot was so mediocre, but the beta completely turned me around on it... but now with people doing the math on how absurd the stat boosts from rare cards are I'm back to being super iffy on it

Game is all sorts of jacked on PC. We had to try like 8 times to form a group and join a game, so many errors.

Once we finally got in impressions:
-Beautiful
-Sort of fun, but at the same time so simple that it was pretty boring after about an hour
-None of my group (4 people) said they'd buy it unless the campaign is 9/10+

Ended the beta with a 40+ killstreak on Maul. God I love that hero.

I do believe the battlepoint system is great for heroes. But I have seen only a handful of starfighters or AAT tanks, the AT-RT only as cheese in the palace. In 2015 the skies were always busy and AT-STs were never not picked up.. that's why the beta sometimes felt like a large scale blast mode, no vehicles to be seen.

Also, buff the MTT/LAAT. They're pretty terrible.

Yea the battlepoint system is great for heroes but in terms of vehicles they need to either lower the cost or rework the way it can be earned.

Loved the palace map
Hated the Strike one
Couldn't fly for shit for the space one

Like what's here might pull the trigger at launch as long as the rubberbanding is cut down in the final product. Shit was unacceptable.

Ok, I found out you can enable roll controls in the options and now I love the space combat. It's so much better than the overly generous auto-aim lock on of the first game and its canned evasive maneuvers. Smart piloting seems actually more effective since auto-aim is less generous and the only maneuvering you can do is what you can pull off with your piloting skill.

I like it.

Anyone else having a hard time with the ships in Galactic Assault? They seem to move way too fast for me to hit any ground troops. Maybe I just need to git gud.

Couldn't even get past the terms of service on xbox...Hard reset, game reset I couldn't get past this page so just uninstalled...Great beta!

I gave up also. Though after doing a hard reset, the game would just get stuck on the demo video for me. "Hey gamers it's John Boeyga..." and that's it. Wouldn't skip past it and no controller commands worked. Never had any other problem with another beta like this one.

Whenever I start up the beta my xbox stops responding to my controller. the fuuuu
Preview program members?

I had no issues I’m on release dash I opted out of alpha wave preview after years because of issues. Game ran perfect 2tb Xbox one s game installed on my external 8tb raid 0.

I'm really digging the game. My issue with Theed is that the attackers need more reinforcements in the second phase. I imagine the amount is based off of how well your tank is doing at the end of phase 1 but in the two games I played, the attackers were stopped very quickly at phase 2 as a result.

Pretty much only use ships on the current GA map if either:

A. You are a clone and want to use it to pile extra damage on the MTT during damage phases

B. You're a droid and you need to eliminate a clone who is doing A

C: You're a droid and are basically waiting for the indicator that a clone is charging the ion disruptor so you can divebomb them before they can get it off

Hold Square.

That said, it doesn't seem like you can pick up objective items if you're a reinforcement unit (e.g. jetpack troopers)

aha you have to be looking directly at it to see the Square prompt, not stand on top of it. It's different than Battlefront 1 because...?

Thanks!
