Probably to accommodate massive rewrites if I had to guess.
Yeah it was delayed but immediately as a reaction to how well TFA did. When coupled with their other release date announcements today, it sounds like they are getting their ducks in a row for 2019 which is stacked as fack for them.
They announced TLJ for May, too. I just don't think they'll end up moving IX away from a month they own.
I refuse to watch it in May, make it December.
Han Solo is coming out in May 2018, LucasArts wants May back. No way it gets pushed back to December.
If TLJ also hits over 1.5-2B, I wouldn't be surprised to see them push to Dec as that slot seems to work magic
And absolutely no one believes them.
They aren't releasing SW 3 weeks after Frozen 2.
Seeing as Frozen 2 is coming out in late November, it's time to start. They're not putting IX out three-ish weeks after Frozen and cutting their own movie's legs off.
Any particular reason?
Both share a significant overlap with the huge audience of children, so why let one cannibalize the other's box office when they can both make significant bank from that market? What does one have to do with the other.
So, Spielberg is doing "The Post" now for this fall, and then he'll start pre-prod for Indy 5 or is there another project he wants to squeeze in?

I don't know dude, the last one was on some goofy-ass shit. I didn't even know they were making a new one. Is the fact that a sequel is coming what has your interest, or is it the concept for the sequel? Any idea what it's premise is?

Not with Frozen in November!=ONo it isn't. It will release in Dec like the rest of them.

It would cannibalize the family market both films would enjoy, independent of each other.

Ready Player One, Robopocalypse. What happened to those.
They've been working on story for a long while now, and they've got plenty of time still before they'd need to start shooting. Seems like they have more than enough time to hit a May 2019 date right now. That's true, I mean if they have the CHOICE to release in May and not compete with it, that would be the smarter one. However if the movie simply isn't finished and they need more time, it's getting delayed
Weird that they would still schedule Episode IX for May when Avatar is confirmed not to release in December 2019. When you have the Christmas release slot wide open and Avengers 4 already opening in May, why put Star Wars in May?
He was originally going to shoot The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara this year with Oscar Isaac and Mark Rylance, but I guess put it on hold to do The Post first. With Indy 5 being pushed back a year, my guess is Spielberg is still going to squeeze Mortara in now.
Ready Player One is in post and releasing next March.
Frozen would own Thanksgiving, Star Wars would own Christmas, and we're not exactly talking a major time or money investment in either case. People can do both.
If that's the argument, three Marvel movies are scheduled for 2019 and one usually gets a May spot. December still seems far more likely.

Yeah, that is weird, they might change it.Within a month after Avengers 4? Why not June?

May is the traditional month for Star Wars. TFA had to be pushed back due to rewrites and Ford's injury, and that threw the others off as well. They are getting back in order with Han Solo.

Yeah I just saw. I guess Disney must see Frozen 2 doing bigger business, and for longer, than Avengers 4, and are more comfortable with Star Wars opening just a weeks after Avengers rather than a whole month after Frozen? That seems kinda crazy to me, but I also don't see the big deal about Frozen was in the first place. :lol
JJ actually wanted to release TFA in May 2016 while Disney wanted May 2015. The December release was a compromise between the two, and then Disney kept it for Rogue One and The Last Jedi after they saw that TFA money come in.
Well shit, if that was able to happen so quickly it won't be hard to re-codify it at any other time of year.Lame. Star Wars is now codified with Christmas.
Yeah. At the time when they seemed maybe interested in doing another, I wouldn't have guessed there would be another decade+ gap and it would still happen.Holy fuck. Just realized that 2020 will be 12 years removed from Crystal Skull. Christ...
So what are they doing after IX, endless spinoffs? Another trilogy?

It's starting filming in July, right?
Han Solo and Episode IX are May titles, not sure why everyone expects a delay beyond the films doing great in December. The Star Wars movies will do great anywhere you put them.
