This will be the most entertaining/interesting aspect.
If you say so, but we've never had a Star Wars thread that I can recall that didn't boil down to prequel or Lucas bitching. Not counting the EP7 thread. :P Though I'm sure there's bitching in there too.

Anyway, I don't think I've been as excited for a teaser since well, TPM.

That's exactly what I mean. It's amusing as hell. The new movies will be better than the prequels, but by god, they'll still try. The hate for Abrams is already pretty documented for example. JJ HURR HURR LENS FLARES HURR ABRAMS

I'm not too far from the Irvine theater that's showing the exclusive trailer and I have a free ticket as well. I guess I'll see the new Hunger games movie. I wanted to see Birdman, but they have Hunger games playing every 30 minutes, so they have no room for good movies.

If I lived near a theatre I would honestly go see something just for this trailer, even though I can see it online.

The excitement of seeing your first glimpse of something on the big screen is so special to me.

I really am seriously considering it. Of course, if the trailer is up at midnight tonight on iTunes, I might be less tempted.

I was rewatching A New Hope last night and man the acting is horribad, worse than I remembered.

Did it improve in Empire and Jedi?

Some of Luke's line delivery in that is just cringeworthy.

It got worse, particularly from Fisher. Hamill stays mostly the same throughout (not great but very much good enough for the role and still likable). No one wants to think that about their precious original trilogy though. Only the prequels have bad acting and writing (lol)

Haha yeah. Rose coloured glasses and all.

The worst one I can think of from watching New Hope last night was at the begining when Luke's talking to his uncle

"But I was gonna go to the Tosche Station to pick up some power converters!"

That's one of the more notorious ones for sure. I think it's fair to say that the prequels had lines and deliveries that were worse, but I don't think it's to the point where someone could hate on that aspect of the prequels but totally brush it off when it comes to the originals. They're all pretty fucking badly acted and written movies. I love them because I like the characters, story, art, music, action, etc. The escapism is great. But if I had to criticize the acting or dialogue in the originals I wouldn't have a lot of great things to say.

Sure the acting is a bit iffy/weird at times, but at least they acted and sounded like human fucking beings instead of boring, emotionless robots like in the episodes.

Yep that's how I feel too. I love the original trilogy because it's so much fun and I do like the story overall, but the execution in a lot of places just doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

It's one of my main concerns when friends who haven't seen it ask if they'd like it, and I'm honestly not sure what to tell them. It seems to take itself pretty seriously at times, but the way some things are presented it could almost be construed as intentional camp.

This is very true and one of the main reasons with the OT gets a pass.

There's nothing on the level of "Hold me, like you did by the lake on Naboo. So long ago when there was nothing but our love"

I've never understood the hate for that. He's a whiny brat at the time. What's he supposed to sound like?

The difference between this and the prequels is that Luke grows as a character, becoming someone we truly care about. Compare him to Anakin in the prequels, who I can only guess is supposed to be a spoiled, whiny brat as well, except that he stays that way for all 3 movies.

The problem is he sounds like a normal person trying to put on a fake whiny brat voice instead. The delivery is just bad.

You are right about Luke's growth as a character though, it's very well done.

I think the prequels trying to shoehorn a romance between a wooden plank and an actress who seems chronically incapable of looking like she gives a shit is enough to make it worse than the originals, whose actors made up with charisma what they were lacking in acting skill

Portman can't make it looks like she gives a shit? Have you never seen those eyebrows work their magic? Maybe the prequels and Thor films are the only films you've seen her in.

to be fair i don't know what you see in v for vendetta either, that movie is pretty bad

dat closer though. god-tier portman AND clive owen movie

I'm fully aware that Portman is a good to great actress. Hell Leon the Professional was like her first role and she was great in that. I also enjoyed her in V for Vendetta, Closer and Black Swan. It's what makes it a shame to see her phone it in for the prequels and Thor films

Rewatch the scene right after Han is unfrozen and tossed in the cell with Chewbacca. Besides the fact that he's having a full on conversation with a wookie, he sounds wooden and out of character.

Really? Hamill is god awful in ANH, but I thought he showed a pretty decent improvement in ESRB.

No doubt Lucas is to blame for ANH. :P

I think this will be the tease, a bigger tease will hit during the Super Bowl and the real trailer during D23 Expo 2015 and or Comic Con

i just want to see darth vader in a pod racer
