Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer

So...

Snoke discovers Rey as a baby strong with the Force, Luke steals baby Rey away to train with other Jedi, Ren kills most the training Jedi, Luke hides Rey on Jakku afraid of her power, Rey finds Luke, Luke trains Rey, Rey is tempted by Ren, and Rey chooses.

Cool trailer!

Come on. TPM was awful, but even I acknowledge Obi-Wan being livid with Maul after Qui-Gon's death.

It felt like a fight where each move was intricately rehearsed a hundred times. Because it was.

I can admire Ewan's acting there, but as soon as lightsabers start swinging... yawn.

what i think is:

I get the feeling Luke stops training Rey after he gets paranoid after what happened with Kylo, and she goes off on her own being seduced by the dark side so Luke goes after her at the end. Seemed pretty straight forward.

Well, yeah. The prequel fights were all like that. But even for how little Maul was developed as a character, I still felt the emotion of it all.

He changed his mind.

Edit: Wait, I'm not sure if that Tweet is real or a reddit joke. He did however definitely tweet this:

He's been talking about it a bunch on Twitter but in the end he said people put too much value in him saying it in the first place and that the trailer doesn't spoil much at all.
This would be epic if it's true, but everyone takes as a joke until they get shook in theaters :D

Awesome freaking trailer though, damn! <3 Kylo the Jobber looking interesting and might do something useful this time around.

You guys are kidding yourselves if you think they are going to make rey bad. It is 100% not happening

I was just thinking about this earlier, it would be a cool twist but there are two problems with it. The trailer heavily hinted at it, and they probably don't want to make the female protagonist that so many little girls adore turn into a villain. They gotta keep selling those toys.

More importantly, it wouldn't make sense with what we've seen of Rey so far.

Ah right. At first I was kinda pissed about them dropping the Sith, but I got used to it. We need to get a decent look at the Knights of Ren in this movie though.
Damn I'm sleepy sorry for the typos and missing complete words. I feel like we will see just a couple this movie or at least get an idea what happened to em

Any podcasts up discussing the trailer? Havent found any so far

Movie-wise, he was indeed a klutz in ANH and he got his ass handed to him in ESB despite a good effort. RotJ shows that he is quite competent and managed to beat Vader with very little formal training (although I have always been of the impression that Vader wasn't clear of mind and/or had instructions to goad Luke.

Now, disregarding legends for obvious reason, but new EU material has actually shown him to not to be fucked with. Now add on another 30+ years of him scouring the galaxy for teachings and learning the ways of the force and well.. you'd assume he would be quite the powerhouse.

Once again I'm reminded what a good idea it was to make all of the terrible EU non-canon.

Agreed. She is confused about her purpose, not about her moral compass. She wouldn't be susceptible to the dark side.

She might be if Snoke/Kylo exploit her deep insecurity and feeling of rudderlessness in the world. She is practically screaming out to Luke about this in the trailer

She'll probably be tempted to turn, after some Force torture by Snoke. Kylo will play the "good cop" so to speak and go see Rey and tempt her to turn and just before she gives in Luke will pop in and say "Get your hands off my daughter!"

This trailer has made me question her lineage more than anything.

Seems like we are getting a more complete version of the destruction of the Jedi Temple, which they will almost certainly be involved in. After name-checking them in the last movie I was hoping they would play a decent part in TLJ, after seeing the new imperial guards, my hopes are a bit dashed.

The marketing is deliberately sleeping on del Toro's character. Heck, it didn't even show Rose, did it? Kind of crazy.

Not really, TFA didn't show much of Hux or Maz, Rogue One didn't show Tarkin.

It's funny to see people discounting Luke's abilities when he organized a rescue and took down one of the most powerful mob bosses in their galaxy along with his private merc army...

It's also like people don't remember just how terrifyingly powerful Vader was, and even managing to wound him at all in Esb was an incredible feat with as litttle training as he had had then.

But yes, in the new trilogy the power creep is indeed real. Maybe TLJ will provide a satisfying explanation.

I'm almost leaning towards the Snoke line in the beginning being directed at Rey instead of Kylo. I could see him pulling an Emperor and going for the fresh new apprentice.

Yes. I'm so glad Rian Johnson gets to write the definitive version of Luke at this point in his life. Turning him into a space God in the EU was kind of boring...

Luke needs to have some serious character flaws after everything he's been through.

I think it is directed at her. We know Snoke will capture Rey at some point. And if Snoke isn't a traditional Sith Lord, then there's no reason for him to toss Kylo aside in favor of Rey. Why not have two powerhouses working under you? It fits with the final scene in the trailer and would also let Luke live on as the last Jedi. Although I think the title is referring to a small few as opposed to a singular Jedi.

Not that I necessarily believe it will happen, but I will point out that a double-turn has never happened in a Star Wars movie.

Which is why I'll still leave the possibility on my bingo card.

Too many people are frothing at the mouth ready to call this an ESB rip-off and Rian knows it, so I expect a massive amount of swerves in this movie.

Does it not bother everybody that this universe seems to have been practically kept on ice for 30 years while Luke Han and Leia aged?

It's like some reverse Relativity going on!

well about the same time has passed form Jedi to Force awakens so im not sure what youre saying exactly....should they not have aged?

Isn't this movie supposed to reveal the force being more than light versus dark?

The Force IS the light side, the dark side is a perversion of it. The balance is getting rid of the dark.

That's what we've been told which is why this film might change that. Maybe Luke found something out at the first temple that changes the whole idea of this.

Wtf is he thinking telling people not to watch the trailer?

Total misdirection. Of course if you are telling people not to watch something that is so easily viewable you will create intrigue. Plus obviously there are no outright spoilers. Its all carefully orchestrated.

I'm saying that the world around them doesn't appear to have moved on, at least not 30 years worth.

Plenty has happened but the EU was only rebooted a few years ago, there's still a ways to go before that gap is enitrely filled. With how tight a grip the story group seems to have on canon this time around we'll probably have it filled slowly over the next several years. Maybe Dave Filoni's next show will contribute to that time period. There's already plenty of material covering some of the more important events that led to the creation of the First Order and the Resistance, though.

and Episode IX is Luke killing Snoke, Rey and Kylo .. Man, I would def watch that movie!

Both sides mate, team both sides
