Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer

So last night I mentioned a few times that Rey was probably talking to Luke in that last shot of her in the trailer, based on how she's still wearing the outfit from the end of TFA and the start of TLJ placing the scene firmly in the early parts of the film.

However, after sleeping on it and thinking more on it, I actually think Rey might be talking to Chewie in that scene. There's a shot from the Behind the Scenes reel this summer of a night scene involving Chewie sitting by a bonfire just outside the Falcon at night on Ahch-To.

Rey is probably talking to Chewie, or Luke ends up joining them at the bonfire later in the scene.
Yo. This is some good shit right here.

Why does the force change someone's eyes?

This is EU territory, but it's too much abuse of the Force. Dark side users frequently saw physical manifestations of their Force use take hold. In Kotor, the Dark Lord Revan wore a full mask and hood, and most assumed that it was because he was heavily disfigured (similar to Palpatine or worse).

Sometimes I wonder if people actually watched the movie, or just sat on YouTube for 10 hours.

Yeah this the problem, same with game walkthroughs, they watch the clips, read wikis
Parrot whatever the Youtube man or woman has told them to say, I've noticed it a lot with other movies too, even if they do see the movie they arent sure what to think about it until their Youtube hero has told them their opinion of it

Damn sheep

did you see that fight with Kylo? Her skills were hardly even better than Finn's. All she did was clumsily parry as she retreated. Then when she allowed the force in her moves were still slow but just more powerful than exhausted Kylo's. Kylo was very slow compared to other Jedi and Sith btw. Wasn't some massive feat defeating him.

And to repeat something I've said a few times - Kylo had been shot already by Chewie's blaster (which has a tendancy to make things go boom) and was not trying to kill Rey. He was toying with Rey and then basically just pinned her down to try to goad her into joining her. It wasn't until that point, when she had clearly lost, that Rey got that bit of force somethingorother to push back and put him down. If Kylo hadn't been shot and just wanted to kill Finn and Rey he would have walked right through both of them.

As Luke said to the Emperor, "Your arrogance is your weakness" - it seems to be a common flaw in dark side users.

Misdirection galore, but still a fantastic trailer. I really like the somewhat darker vibe in display here.

Two months left!

I like this theory. It could work especially if Luke refuses to train her further

It's especially appropriate because that conversation could happen after Luke refused to train her initially.

Very true..

I like this analysis. I also like the idea of Rey being like..

WTF am I supposed to do now? I just got rejected by the one person I always admired and wanted to meet..

That's a crushing feeling.

Remember that time Luke swung across a 30-foot chasm while carrying Princess Leia — all while evading Stormtroopers? I don't ever remember seeing him take a gym class, so he's obviously one of them Mary Sues.

Also a T-16 is nothing at all like an X-Wing, and he uses the Falcon's cannons to nail a TIE-fighter — all without without instructions. "Don't get cocky, kid"? Bullshit. Luke has every right to be cocky; most people can't even use a blender without chopping their own fingers off, never mind get to grips with a 6-bajillion gigawatt laser without killing themselves.

I swear that no one remembers that Kylo was fighting with a hole in his abdomen

yeah me too. specifically a hit from Chewie’s bowcaster, which was established as extra powerful in 2 other scenes (Han marveling at it).

they even had that scene with Kylo punching his own wound, to draw power from the pain, very dark side.

Word. Then, that same night, Luke will be brooding in his hut when a familiar guiding voice speaks up from behind, urging him to help her. Turn around and you've got a little visit from one or two old ghost friends.

A hole in his abdomen from an overpowered bowcaster, after having just killed his dad, and with the goal of capturing Rey alive and turning her to the Dark Side instead of just killing her.

All details one would remember if one had actually watched the movie :P

A staff and a sword-like weapon are completely different disciplines that require different techniques, postures, attacks, defenses, and strategies. It's like saying that since you're a good sniper, you're a good pistol marksman. Or you play a rad saxophone so you also must be amazing at trumpet.

Given the similarities though, knowing one makes it far easier to learn the other, and certainly let’s you jump into it a lot faster. The intricacies are different but the basics are the same, and learning the initial basics is the hard part of developing any new skill. And nobody can say she had an intricate move set with a sword, her fighting style with the lightsaber was amateurish, it’s just that it was reinforced with the basic fighting skills that apply to all melee weapon combat.

+ the force (which she really had no better understanding of or training in than Luke in 4 or Anakin in 1, but nobody complains about that. Remember when anakin flew a star fighter? I’d say he difference between pod racing and zero-g flying are a lot more significant than a staff vs a sword)

+ Kylo was mentally and physically wounded already, so nowhere near his A-game.

Haters gonna hate.

Aww, thanks! :D

I was thinking it might happen there too, but there's no flicker on her face.

True, but the lighting on Rey's face seems to best resemble that of one coming from a fire. It's got that reddish tint to it, if that makes any sense.

I'd actually be down with Rey being another "chosen one" born to bring balance to the force once more. I don't think it'll happen but it would give a nice throughline to the series.

Prediction time.

Who wins, Finn or Phasma?

I imagine an explosion or falling debris causes a no-contest, or tips things in Finn's favor.

Because having read the Phasma novel, she should light him up.

Yeah, barring outside interference, Phasma is going to clown Finn.

Rules don't apply to the OT

Unless Finn learns to recognize and control his mastery of the Force!

Finn is going to win, showing progression. He fucking fought a force user and lived to tell about it. He's taking that shiny useless stormtrooper down!

Is it possible for Rey to be turned and Finn to have to save her at the end of 9?

I'm hoping for something like this. I hope Finn isn't cast to the side as the story progresses.

That's exactly why he'll lose. Everyone thinks Phasma is a joke, and he got really cocky with her at the end of TFA. He's heading for a sharp reality check at the end of her spear.

Both of them really need a win.

Phasma more so in terms of character, if she loses again then her character is done for good. But after Finn getting almost killed in TFA, would they really let him lose again? I want to think that Finn will end up in a Han situation, captured on a cliff hanger, saved in 9. But then, first black main character being a failure, again, and a damsel? That’s not gonna look good. Option 3, they tie, but then that’s just another repeat too after Rey v Kylo.

No option really looks good to me. I think, ignoring social and political ramifications surrounding such an important role model, focus just on the story, then let Finn lose again here, but have him come back big time in 9, like fuckin save the galaxy big, very satisfying underdog story. I guess. But I can see a lot of people calling foul (or loving it for the wrong reason) in the two years interim.
