StarCraft: Remastered - New vs Old Character Portraits Comparison Videos

Any huge StarCraft fan willing to take a quick look at my OT and give a tiny bit of feedback? I have another GAFer generously helping as well but it would be nice to have another opinion too.
Looking forward to it. Hyped to finally get going on this tomorrow. Hope my wrists will forgive me when I'm still playing at 4 AM on Tuesday lol.
Thanks!
Wow, a lot of those really suck. I always hated Starcraft 2's style, and Blizzard is clearly going for more of that. Any word on the voice acting? I would hate for that to be butchered too.
Calm your fishes the voice acting is still there.

EDIT: Well actually you're given the toggle button to choose between new and old apparently! That's nice of them. I didnt expect that.

There's an option to use original voiceovers so presumably they've re-recorded some but left us the option to use the originals.

I could take a look. SC has been my favorite game for years.

The latter one is on-point. Dunno why they have to completely overhaul the designs.

Both: "You must construct additional pylons!"

Huge StarCraft fan reporting in. I can take a look and give some feedback if needed.

Feel free to PM me in case you needed an extra opinion.

Edit: I see there are already many fellow templars ready for the cause.

Make me wonder, do all of the old UMS maps port straight over? Might still have my substantial library on an old computer.

The only UMS maps that no longer work properly are ones that utilized EUD's. If you don't know what EUD's are then don't worry, none of the maps you remember playing will have been affected.

Sweet, gonna have to try extract all them UMS maps then.
There was a HUGE map pack hanging around on the SC Remastered website, it's probably buried a lot now because it was around the time the free release was happening that includes a ton of maps, might be worth looking into.

Edit: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/starcraft/topic/20753716241#post-1 Found it. Worth looking at this page because there's different map packs on it.

https://gitlab.com/scmaps.net/starcraft_brood_war_maps_archive/tree/master <-- this is on that page and has a ton of UMS maps.

Also watch out because aparrently [2]Barbarian Highlands.scm was setting off a few virus scanners, not sure if it's a false positive or what but I just removed it just in case when I first downloaded it. I just remember having the same problem back then with other maps too and virus scanners so.

Interesting, SC:R page is up in account management. Or has it been for some time? Either way, the page is empty expect for the game "box", featuring Kerrigan.

OT will be up in about 2 hours. Darn hospital internet.

Can I put out the OT this early or do I have to wait a bit more?
Never did a OT before and don't even know how to do them so I went to look at the guidelines.

"-Don't post your official thread earlier than the day of the game's release (excepting multiplayer-centric games with large-scale long-term open betas, like Dota 2, which are addressed individually). |OT|s are not for news, so they have no reason to exist while we're still in the news cycle."

Figures. Rarely have need to check the page, the last time was before the pre-order when i downloaded Warcraft 3.

Well, it will be nice when they're on the bnet launcher finally so that doesn't have to happen, always found it annoying.

In the meantime, fun bit of trivia: The cutscenes are already re-rendered as of version 1.19. The bad news is that you can't rewatch the game's intro at the moment without some regediting because they removed the button for that... Sigh.

No one can probably tell me this, but I've never played Starcraft before. Should I play this Remastered version or the mod built inside SC2, Mass Recall, that recreates Starcraft 1?

The Protoss are by far the most disappointing. They all look nearly the same now, whereas they had a lot more variation in head shape, skin color, etc. :/

Yeah I noticed they removed it in the most recent version, need it back dammit.

I'd recommend original/Remastered.
It has distinct feel to it, something MR does not quite re-create, and it is the original. I am an advocate of experience things as they originally were, when possible, to an extent (for example, high-rez mods, bug fixes are perfectly fine in my opinion).
Depending on how much and if you've played modern RTS, SC1 is somewhat clunky though.

Starcraft 2 is easier to play for sure, in terms of control, the AI is smarter though but MR has difficulty levels so it evens out. The maps are well re-created, even enhanced at times, though i strongly disagree with the added non-Starcraft music for interludes and some maps.
Installation is also a pain in the ass, especially since they haven't updated the installer in a while and SC2 has been updated...
Some custom units are kinda meh, and especially custom portraits are pretty bad even, at times.

Both options are free, if we ignore the Remastered version for SC.

Definitely play Remastered. Mass Recall is cool and all, but it's nothing compared to what's on offer here.

where the FUCK is my remaster guys ?
i am sitting at 3 am here i need counseling !

please help my apm is dropping to 3

So when it goes live it's just a toggle in the actual client, or is it a separate download in the launcher or something?
The remaster stuff will be a toggle in the client. The game will also be on the BNet launcher when the game goes live, so you'll just launch it from there and it will be all good. From there you can just turn it off or on seamlessly in game. Everything should be downloaded to the normal SC install as of now, most of the stuff already got data-mined, but I'm sure there will probably be a little patch possibly for it to activate fully.

cool, how seamless is it?, can you toggle it during a game?, maybe I'm weird but I had a lot of fun seeing the differences on the monkey island remaster.

Yes you can toggle it instantly and smoothly, it's pretty much like the Halo 1 / 2 Remasters where you just press one button (F5 for SCR) and it will transition quickly/smoothly without impacting gameplay.

And nah that ain't weird, I'mma be doing that a lot too.

Great, thanks for the info, looking forward to it.

I actually thought they looked pretty good.

... until I got to the Protoss. Good lord. They lost all sense of style and look like they're from some generic kids' show.
