Stardew Valley for Nintendo Switch |OT| Starving for a Harvest

Can anybody explain fishing like I'm an idiot. I feel like I'm just missing something and can't seem to get it right.

To cast hold Y for your distance. Once the little ! Mark appears hit Y then You want the green zone where the fish is by tapping Y to raise or not tapping to lower. Once you get used to it only the tricky fish are a problem

Thanks! I think I'm just messing up the timing. I'll practice some more.

Can i just chill playing this game? Like if im very inefficient and not playing the "right" way while im learning, is that gonna hurt me later on?

What am I suppose to do with the community center exactly? Every time I go inside, I see some kind of monster that just fade away. Not sure what I need to do.

Try to read the plaque thing in one of the rooms, then leave for the day. You'll figure the rest out on your own. Seriously, it's easy after that.

There’s no kind of time limit so you won’t ever get stuck or broken or anything. But if you miss a ton of stuff in one year, maybe you won’t want to play another full year just to get another shot at it?

I’d say a “natural” playthrough is to play two years. So be sloppy as you like first year and by the time the second rolls around you’ll probably naturally be rich enough to accomplish things without too much stress.

I’d say the only thing you really need to keep an eye on is repairing your Greenhouse. Once you have that, you can grow anything at any time so you’re not quite as tightly constrained by season.

There’s a gold plaque in the room to the left and down as you enter. Read it.

If you mean the scroll I did read it and I ended up seeing the wizard the following day (I believe?).
But I still have no clue what to do lol.

Look at the things that it wants, find / grow those things, go to the Community Center and put them in once you have them. I would suggest that, while it is still Spring, you look for Spring-exclusive items, otherwise you will be waiting until next year (unless you manage to buy one of those items from the Travelling Cart).

What are you supposed to do for people's birthdays? Can i give gifts?

Yes.

It takes 2500 points to get a villager to a full ten hearts. Each gift gives anywhere from -40 (Hated) to +100 (loved). On birthdays, those values are multiplied by 8. Even if you only give them an item they feel neutral about, that's good for 160 points on their birthday—and if you find something they love, it's 800.

I'm having a blast with this. There is some UI glitches with the crafting menu I've noticed where until I unlock more things, I can't seem to move the cursor to some items. Other than that, I'm obsessed.

No! I missed mayor Lewis' birthday...I didn't know what to give him so I decided to go mining for minerals and fainted from exhaustion. Now I feel bad...

So this is by all accounts a solid port with no real technical issues?

Nah, port is bad. Save times super long, audio crackling, bad controls, no touchscreen support.

You should be able to read that plaque now. It gives you a set of fetch quest “bundles”. Like “turn in one of each thing you can forage during spring”. Complete one bundle and it opens another room with a set of bundles. Complete all the bundles in a room and you get a big reward, like repairing your Greenhouse or reactivating the mine carts so you can get around more quickly, etc.

Just started playing, got to Day 4, and already hit a softlock on Journey of the Prairie King. I can see why they are patching this, lol.

The audio crackling glitch drives me crazy. Not sure what triggers it.

Other than that, really enjoying game, although progress is very slow.

Hate to say it but I’ve only played a little bit. The extremely long save time really kills it. I’ll try it again once I finish Golf Story.

Interesting, how long is yours taking? Mines only 10-15 seconds a month or so in, seems reasonable and isn't too bad.

That’s the process. It costs 25 gold per geode cracked and you need to have room in your inventory (remember that the geode you’re holding needs a slot open to return to).

I figured out the issue, i was literally going to the anvil to try and get it to work, i wasn't dragging and dropping haha. Thanks anyway.

Anyway, for the first time in ages in a game, i started a to do list. /o\

This never clicked with me before, but this time it is sinking in (just spent the last 4hrs playing without realizing I had spent hat time). Still hate the speed at which a day goes by, wish work went this fast just walking to my desk would be a 30min trip.

I still don't know what people are talking about with these long save times. Over in 10 seconds, tops.

This is me. It tops out at 15 seconds at most. I barely have enough time to open a bottle of water, drink it, and be back in time to jump out of bed and go.

I know an instant save would be better - sub 5 seconds - but I dont see the prob with 15.

Unless people are vastly above 15 for some reason I dont see the problem with saves

The saves in Stardew Valley are about the same length as loads between level in Rayman Legends, and few complained there.

I knew this game would be worth the wait for me, and it totally is.

I'm almost done with Spring 1, and I've actually barely been farming at all lol. I have two simple 9x9 crop squares and that is it right now. I picked the forest farm so I've mostly been chopping wood. Built a couple chests, fixed the bridge at the beach. Now I plan to upgrade my tools as much as possible ASAP.

I am struggling with money though, most of the time I have around 100g only lol. Soooo I should probably farm more, but foraging pays the bills day to day.

But yeah this is exactly what I was hoping for.

Have they already announced a patch? Kind of glad I still have Steamworld Dig 2 to finish. Wasn’t planning on starting Stardew until after. But since people here are having some problems I’d rather hold off until they can make my first experience with the game as smooth as possible.

It's just some minor annoyances, nothing that really gets in the way of the game.

this game is simply one of a kind

Can we update the OT with this line on the very top:
There is no time limit. Take your time, do what you want and how you want.

Probably beaten to death but it doesn't hurt to say it again: do not ignore berry season in the early game. See that bush over there with red/blue dots? Go get it.

It will give you extra stamina and since there are a lot of spawns you'll get large amounts in the end.
One great tip right here.

Damn, I had hoped there would be Parsnips in the mixed bag I got from completing the spring foraging for the community center but it turns out it was only flowers and the other wild growing stuff. Now there are only three days left and I don't have a parsnip. Planted one anyway and hope against hope for another
fairy to show up
otherwise I guess I need to wait another year :( Or is there another way to get one?

The travelling merchant has a chance to sell anything!

there's always next year! :p

I’m so conflicted on this game; everybody seems so hype about it, but I don’t like Animal Crossing and the last Harvest Moon I played was a Wonderful Life on Gamecube. Which I liked, but I kind of forgot I played and own it until recently.

Don’t know if I should buy...

this is not like Animal Crossing at all to me. I am enjoying it enough but I enjoyed Golf Story much more so far

on Fridays and Sundays, go directly south of the farm one screen and walk left past the big tree directly from your farm’s exit.

Thanks! He didn't have one but there is still one more chance, so fingers crossed :D if not, well, guess I'll just have to wait another year.

Love this game. Have no idea if what I'm doing is efficient but I don't care. I just love that there is always something to do. Currently trying to save up for the bigger house with kitchen.
