Starhawk - Round up of Previews, Info, Videos

RTS elements + flying Starhawks + other various vehicles = BRILLIANT

this shit is going to amazing! I had no idea. I love how these studios are still bringing fresh ideas. I don't think people realize how big this is. This might be the most addicting game ever if it's all implemented correctly.

Infamous 2 + Uncharted 3 + Starhawk might be a trifecta in an amazing Sony exclusive gaming experience. I mean each have something special about them and I can easily just transition between all three of them. It makes me sad how people will still be playing FPSs when they have stuff like this (BF3 will be great though).

I'm almost as impressed this idea as with Modnation Racer's customization gameplay and solid racing gameplay (which resulted in the best race tracks i've ever played out of any kart racer including diddy kong racing and the mario kart series).

This sounds like it would be awful with randoms, but make for some great GAF vs. GAF games.

ugh... don't like the sound of this.
First thing I've read about Starhawk that I don't like.

That sounds awful...I don't want to be forced to play private/clan matches just to have a good time in a game and not worry about someone else ruining the game for me.

I think I just might stick to Warhawk.

Everybody thinks they've thought of things before Lightbox has.
You don't think they've taken these considerations into mind? They're great at balancing.

Aesthetics are awful, gameplay will probably be awesome though.

Yeah. To be honest the story and changes in art style make me want to puke.

Was anyone else sitting there besides me going "rift energy? Really?"

I feel that some aspects of the visuals they updated, but a lot of the particle effects seem very last-gen. In general when you combine the bland, "space mining facility" darker art style, you loose all the glorious bright visual aspects I love about Warhawk.

I loved the skybox in Eucadia. I loved the crystal clear water. This looks like they took that pristine environment and muddied it up with this space mining crap. I'm not into it at all. But I know the gameplay will be fun, and as long as we have dogfighting with some sort of aircraft, I'll probably enjoy it.

The mechs is going to be slow but powerful of course so foot soldiers are able to take them out.Thats what I love abotu these games no matter how you play it balance.

Try telling that to Guerilla Games.

Single player seems kind of cheesy but I was never going to buy it for the single player anyway. The multiplayer looks pretty impressive though. Loved Warhawk.

Don't forget Twisted Metal which I am hyped for, there is Resistance 3 too which I don't care. Do you know what all these games have in common, they all support splitscreen+online play (except inFamous 2 obviously). Between Uncharted 3, Starhawk, Twisted Metal, I will be sorted when it comes to multiplayer gaming, and thats not including 3rd party games multiplayer games like Dark Souls and Battlefield 3. It is going to be tough to choose which game will be my go to multiplayer game, but I know for definate Uncharted 3 is at the top of my list as I was a huge fan of Uncharted 2 multiplayer.

From what I understood from the video we should expect (in SP) various alien grandiose environments. Maybe these are just the ones they have ready to show at the moment.

Man, this announcement has woken a vicious Wowhawk itch. Just checked if i still had Warhawk installed on my ps3, the minute the (HOLYSHITWTF loud) music started to play i got the goosebumps, COME ON SONY FIX YOUR GODDAMN NETWORK

everything could take out everything in warhawk. Including just a rifleman if the warhawk driver sucked. These guys know their shit.

Yeah, I'm sure. Just saying that mechs being slow doesn't necessarily mean that they will be balanced, as seen in certain other flagship Sony shooters.

Not lumping Lightbox in with Guerilla :)

But it's not just balancing, it's also that there's a chance that I or someone else won't be able to play the game how they want to just because one person or a group of people want things a certain way. One of the great things about Warhawk is being able to play the way you want and not worry about ruining the game for someone else or someone ruining it for you just because of how you play.

I like the fact that I can pick up the certain weapons I like and get the certain vehicle I like while with Starhawk all I'm hearing is there isn't any weapon pickups and your team needs to spawn areas to get more vehicles. So if your team doesn't spawn the thing that you want then it's too bad for you.

You are comparing the style of one map of Starhawk against the maps you liked the most in Warhawk.

I guess there will be the same diversity in Starhawk.

I'm only going to listen to the official theme when I pop in the game for the first time. But it is GREAT news Warhawk's composer is back.

SO. FUCKING. EXCITED. Was in the Warhawk beta, and loved THE SHIT out of it. Should've gotten the retail, but was an idiot. Ready to jump into this.

STARWOWHAWK!!!!!!

The music on the official site is just badass...AMAZING!

The mech-planes look so awesome
Co-op :))))))))))))))))
Environments look great
Love the new artwork too

Thumbs up for having a black protagonist as the main character...more games need this

2012 too far :(

I loved this theme, any reason why they changed it ruining it? Anyway looks forward to starhawk, space battles awww yeaaa
I remember everyone complaining when they changed it, no clue why they didn't change it back.

They said in the dev interview there's at least one map on each of the different moons, each moon representing a different environment. We could all types of crazy stuff, like jungles, deserts, oceanic, crystals... a team like this isn't going to set a game in space, have five(?) moons with different environments, and somehow end up making them all look the same.

And if I'm not mistaken, aren't they all orbiting a gas giant? I'm expecting a cloud mining facility like in Empire Strikes Back, complete with volumetric clouds.

Warhawk had a pretty varied set of maps. Not everything was blue skies and green vegetation and pretty Eucadian architecture. The Badlands was a OMG BROWN wasteland, Omega Factory was an OMG GREY industrial landscape that looked almost exactly like the ONE Starhawk map we've seen so far. In Starhawk I fully expect to see a jungle/oasis planet, an ice planet, an ocean or two, some sort of futuristic city or space station, etc.

probably no chance this will be released as a downloadable title.

Shouldn't make a difference that this is bigger than Warhawk, Sony's released full games on PSN plenty of times before (also, most PSP games come out downloadable day-and-date, but that's partly because of Go.)

They've slowed it down considerably since the heyday of Warhawk and Burnout though, I'm not sure why since Xbox Live turned around on its download cap and started doing full games as downloadable options.

lol, you mean colony wars-esque space dust? 'cause stars won't work like that.

Port the XMB sprinkles?
Oh, I'm not that informed about stars. I had envisioned a nebula of stars and being able to traverse through that. But, yeah, space dust would be pretty neat.

That PSNation article is pretty interesting.

So, here’s the biggest change in the multiplayer, your team doesn’t start with any vehicles, and limited weapons. There are no more weapon pickups strewn across the map (except for what’s dropped by fallen friends and enemies.) Instead, you start with a certain amount of Rift Energy, shared completely by your team. You use this energy as currency to build everything that you need. So if you’re on a team of randoms that all decide to build 5 4×4 garages, you’ll run out of currency VERY quickly. This one will require the players to definitely play as a team when it comes to resource management, because if you can’t be effective with what you’re building, you’ve already lost the match.

This sounds like it would be awful with randoms, but make for some great GAF vs. GAF games.
That sounds dangerous. I'd rather have it be individual building.

The more Rift energy you have, from completing tasks the bigger things you can create for yourself. So saving energy has an incentive that helps the whole team.

Nobody getting a Brutal Legend vibe in terms of trying too many things? I'm not sure i'm okay with the RTS stuff in multiplayer right now. I mean I do have faith they'll implement it fine but I don't want to have to be forced to do that stuff in order to have an advantage.

I still don't know what the point is of being able to drop down buildings and stuff, like other than protect you from enemy fire and serve as a fort or something, what other purpose do they serve?

One of the coolest things about the original Warhawk was how people developed into classes not because of any sort of predetermined load out but because of how deep the game was. You could play Warhawk for dozens of hours and still not master flying the Warhawks. You needed a good mix of turret users, tank/jeep drivers and pilots to be truly successful.

Many, remembering how much fun me and my three roomates had with this game. It was hard as hell, but sooooooo much fun.

Okay definitely not liking that ps nation article. One of the best things about warhawk is it's fast paced start to a game, who the he'll wants to wait around for garages to be built and then Vehicles spawning? Not to mention the fact what if the randoms on your team don't build garages? That kind of dependancy, not cool. Also, if there aren't any weapon pickups, what were those we saw in the video a few pages back?

Perhaps there is a limit to the number of a given building that can be present on the battlefield? Like you can't have more than 3 4x4 garages.

I think it's probably gonna be like Warhawk in terms of how many types of a given facility any map can host. The difference being you can chose where to have them built.

It takes seconds to make them.

Those were schematics for new buildings. Only Hawks have weapon pickups.

From what I got they are also used as your vehicle spawns and turrets.

I think one of the best things about Warhawk was the hour-long matches, in which case, this would be a non-issue.

Forward spawns? weapon caches? Multiple vehicle hangers?

Does someone have a cap of the "Spawn Wheel"? some people have no imagination.

True but again think of the whole dependancy part, some idiots decide to take their time building garages while the other team has already built there's and are advancing? But i guess, we will have to have faith in Dylan and co's balancing powers, they did a great job in warhawk. Surely if it's a basic requirement for the game, some garages will be built straight away as soon as a game starts and not everyone will try to wing it, I hope.

@distrbnce oh ok! :-) gonna miss my ground pick ups though, but I have faith in lightbox from what I've seen today, sure the replacement system is gonna be awesome as well!

Surely you mean half hour games? I don't recall warhawk ever having 60 min games? 30 mins was the limit?

Ugh... that PSNation article brought down my hype a bit when I got to the shared rift energy part.

What's wrong with individual energy pools?
