Stealth Inc. 2 Wii U exclusive.

This is a smart move from Curve, putting it on WiiU where the game will get much better exposure (the article states that it might be part of a 'Nintendo Direct'). The might put it on Xbone/PS4/PC later though. Steam sales have really spoilt me, I will not buy any game AAA or indie on PC unless it is 10$ or less.

There's also the fact Microsoft's just historically been a pain in the ass, and I think the audience for these games outright evaporated from the service in the end. They may have eased up, certainly the indie program for XB1 is several positive steps in the right direction, but you hear about the horror stories to get on 360 and it's perfectly rational to go "fuck this shit I don't care how many people are playing on that."

For some of indies, the same goes for the WiiU. You'd think by now they'd know that things have changed, but some indies still think the WiiU works exactly like WiiWare. Having the 48MB limit, needing an office, no self publishing etc... I guess Nintendo hasn't made a big enough announcement telling indies that this is no longer the case.

This displeases me. Crossing fingers for a Vita port down the line.

Yes I do own a Wii U. Still won't be buying this unless it comes to Vita. These kind of games are simply better suited to handhelds. If an indie releases on anything but a Vita then I probably won't buy it.

I wonder if we'd had the same comments if the game was PS4 or Vita exclusive.
No, because they have established themselves as the de facto indie platforms (after PC, of course).

That said, I'm not a fan of indie exclusivity regardless of which platforms are the beneficiaries. Spread the love.

Huh, that's surprising but I'm down. Really enjoyed the first and can't wait to see how they'll use the Gamepad. Should make for some interesting puzzles at the very least.

O h please, spare me that story. Gamers on the other systems have tonnes of other stuff to pick from. At this point this exclusivity is like throwing a bone to Wiiu only owners.
Unless you're into list wars the bone stays exactly the same no matter how many platforms this gets released on.

Why indie exlusivity in particular?

"Wii U doesn't have enough games!"
"What, a new Wii U game?!? This should be on other consoles instead, because this won't sell on Wii U!"

Anyway, looks pretty nice.
Well, I was looking at it from the perspective of the indie developer. Ideally, the Wii U should have more games, but adding this game seems like a drop in the bucket.

This seems pretty dumb. An indie game like that would sell much better on Steam.

"A indie game like that" ? What does that even mean - are all indie games the same now ?
You really think it would be WiiU exclusive if that were the case ? On Steam you have to compete with 1000 of titles and even if you are recognized the pressure to be on sale is way higher. Look at games like Gunman Clive or Mutant Mudds - they have difficulties performing well on Steam compared to way smaller other digital market places.

Steam isnt the best solution for every indie games and not every indie project is the same.

Tell us more about the upcoming WiiU eShop titles ?

This is just from my own personal observation, but there does seem to be a distinct type of diehard Nintendo fan who buys every remotely interesting exclusive that comes to Nintendo platforms, so with a lack of big titles on Wii U it might make sense for indie devs (who were not going to get sales in the millions anyhow) to target that console.

ohhh interesting..

"There isn't much competition on Nintendo's store, so we thought that commercially it's a really good opportunity for us," he told CVG in a newly published interview.

As testament to the concept that console install bases are not king, Curve's design director Jonathan Biddle revealed that the studio's games sales are stronger on Vita than on PS3.

"I think Vita has been a surprise success for us," he said.

"If you compare it to the PS3, for example, you'd expect the home console would be selling the most. Vita's doing way better for us though. That's not proportionally, that's in terms of unit sales."

I own a wii u and love stealth inc - though less the expansion. Yet still this announcement disappoints me. I am wary of buying digital on Wii U as Nintendo is incredibly out of touch on that score, I feel stealth games should always be presented to the largest audience because they are a bit niche already, and finally - the game's mission based structure and time attack make it ideal for portable gaming (i.e. Vita). If this was a 3DS announcement I would be dissapointed because I don't own one, but I would still think it was a better fit than Wii U. I guess I will just have to wait for the multiplat announcement, and hope that this move pays off well for curve as they seem like a great developer.

I can see plenty of uses for the second screen in this game. Played the first one on Vita, it was pretty clever at times. Looking forward to this.
It really needs multiplayer though. Does the Wii U have a competitive infrastructure for that? If I got a Wii U, fellow GAF-ers would be my only pool of possible friends on the system, as no one I know owns one. I have more friends with Vitas than Wii Us.

A drop in the bucket in the sense that it won't do much to help the Wii U.

Vita is getting indie announcements every week and those still wont stop it from selling like shit in the US. As long as the devs can make money with their games, its fine and all that matters....since when do we expect indie titles to change the fortune of a system in such a major way ?

When I put such a suggestion to the duo, the lack of flat-out denial is telling. "We're just talking about Wii U today," Biddle says with a smirk, before Perkins adds, "We'll see how it goes."

And that's a wrap.

Really enjoyed the first title on Android/PC. Should the successor ever arrive on those platforms, I'll get it. To all Wii U owners: Get this game.

I'm not a huge fan of exclusivity full-stop, but I can understand the argument that AAA exclusives can produce 'more', when they're made specifically for a given piece of hardware. That's not the case with (most) indies though, they tend to be built in a manner that means they can be ported all over the shop without losing anything in the process.

I'd say the opposite is true, that's pretty much gaming lingo for "yeah, we're not really exclusive but we can't say anything right now".

That's what I meant. It's not exclusive (beyond an initial launch time frame) so people can safely assume that the game isn't going to stay on a platform they'd rather wish out of existence.

Gamers are weird.
"Wii U needs exclusives!"
*Wii U gets an exclusive*
"This is dumb, why would anyone make a Wii U exclusive?"

Stealth Bastard was good but I'd much rather see them make a new Fluidity for Wii U. The original Fluidity is still the best indie game of all time.

I just don't get it.

"The Wii U is stealing our games" is ringing true more and more. Pretty disappointing actually. If this was on PS4 exclusively, then it is fine.

I can't speak for everyone, but acknowledging that something would make a platform viable doesn't necessarily mean I think it would be the best thing for the developers or myself as a consumer.

For example, the PS4 needs to get exclusives I like to be valuable to me, but I would honestly prefer if that didn't happen. This is because I don't want to be forced to buy into a platform that does not personally appeal to me to play a game I want, but may do so if it's the only option.

Also, one could argue that exclusivity to any platform is limiting to sales and less viable financially without some sort of payment in exchange.

I might be going out on a limb here but if this was exclusive to the PS4, would this thread look similar? I could be wrong.

No but I'm not sure what you're suggesting. PS4 indies arent really "exclusive", almost no indies are. This is the Curve guys noticing that small loyal platforms like Vita and Wii U are a good fit for them to launch on.

The PS4 people aren't worried, they just announced like a dozen new indies yesterday.

ahh the smell of butt hurt and salty salty tears

I for one do not care what its on, i have a vita,pc and WiiU (as well as the others) and they are the main ones for indie games right now, and this seems a great fit for wiiu

It is just disappointing that every thread like this turns into........well this.

So much negativity over a game being announced. Geeze.

Anyway, interested in seeing how this game turns out.

Loved playing the first game on my Vita (even bought the DLC for it, which is a rarity for me), so I can't say I'm not a bit disappointed with this news.

Buy this game, Wii U owners.

given the first one is supposed to have sold pretty well on the PlayStation platforms as well as Steam this just seems like a very odd choice

I should try and finish the first game. Played one session, less than two hours, then something else came out and I got distracted.
