Steam coming to PS6, according to Hiphop Gamers

Come on dude, that would obviously cannibalize Sony's sales. Of course they're not doing that. Hiphop gamer is not a good source.

How is this moron still around? He's made shit up for so many years it's insane. 0 credibility WTF…

This will be crushing for Xbox if true. They better bring the power cuz otherwise, I'd have no reason to get an Xbox over a PS that has Steam.

There will be a lot of people here that do not seriously believe this, but will still get mad at Sony for the (extremely unlikely) chance of it ever happening.

Steam is not coming to PS6, according to me.

There you have a more trustworthy headline.

This is also stupid from the standpoint of PS hardware running a bespoke OS that wouldn't fuck at all with Steam games mostly coded around Windows.

So, PS6 will have it's own translation layer(s) between Win32 x86 and Sony's own OS and hardware APIs, in addition to working with Valve to create an entirely new compatibility display system for the Steam store when used on PS6, in order for it to run PC games. In addition, they'll be foreced to increase the cost of their hardware enormously as it now cannot be subsidised due to the presence of the most used third party store in the history of video games. And people thought this was plausible enough to warrant re-posting on NeoGAF because... *check notes* Hip Hop Gamers said it was happening.

This now stands as the dumbest #SonyToo moment.

Credibility aside, wouldn't you want this? Sonytoo has a negative connotation to it. Surely a Linux fan would welcome Steam to PlayStation.

Dude are you really honked off at me for being in a thread where you are getting all riled? I did my best to stay out of your slapfight.

There's been a pattern of people claiming that Sony is going to do whatever MS is doing. A good example is day and date PC releases. I don't believe this type of thing has anything to do with pro-consumer values - it's for clout and/or warring. It's also tedious especially when, as K KeplerL2 says:

Does this guy know Playstation doesn't run Windows or Linux therefore it can't run Steam?

For me, that's where the Sonytoo exhaustion comes in. People like the dude this came from can bullshit as much as they like, of course, but it's happened over and over at this point.

Honked off? lol It's a simple question. No need to get defensive.

I think HHG is just taking what Strauss Zelnick said a couple weeks ago about consoles becoming more open like PCs and running with it for his "rumor."

I think it's moving towards PC and business is moving towards open rather than closed. But if you define console as the property, not the system, then the notion of a very rich game that you engage in for many hours that you play on a big screen — that's never going away.

Surely you'd welcome a more open console that you could access your Steam library on. Or are you hoping it doesn't happen?

I have no clue which side HHG falls in the console war meta. Let's put aside the claims of clout chasing and warring and focus on the meat of the rumor here. Would you like to see this happen or nah?

Basic fact is so long as Sony have a closed platform with sales north of 80million, there is no business reason to open it to competitors.

Their walled garden formula is working, especially as they can monetize product on PC as is and be no worse off than if they hosted Steam or any alternative.

The weird thing for me is this idea that a console/pc hybrid is some sort of genius idea. Its not, because if you go that route ultimately all you end up with is another PC. Microsoft at least can offer it as a Windows PC plus... but for Sony or anyone else not already deeply embedded in the PC-space, its utterly nonsensical.

I'm indifferent - for two reasons. 1. I buy physical and 2. If I really want to buy from Steam there is an established way to do so.

Why the hell would Sony EVER allow its competition to sell games on their platform for a fraction of the cost?

From a simple business perspective, it's idiotic and makes zero sense to do.

This is the same clown that claimed "14 TERAFLOPS PS5" and the infamous "PS3 BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY REMASTERED" in a livestream, and after the PS5 reveal with Mark Cerny exposing none of that were true, that livestream was magically deleted from his videos on youtube.

Never forget.

This guy pops up every 6 months to make an outrageous claim and then disappears again.
I do hope it's true though, if Steam will be on Xbox then why not on PS too.

I'd have to see it to believe it, because I don't see why Sony would bother, and the work Valve would need to make to get games functioning on the hardware.

If somehow this guy isn't being a complete has-been bullshitter, it would be funny to see cloud saves and playing games online be free on a PS5.

Why would anyone listen to what hiphop gamer has to say??? Dude never had any credibility, was there since xbox360 days and only has 30k subscribers. The only person making him relevant is himself, he has no industry insiders or contacts, just BSing his way through YT and failing at it constantly. Im almost certain its he himself who makes these topics, especially with that Black Panther avatar OP.

These "insider" infos, a.k.a. rumors, a.k.a. fantasy nonsense, a.k.a. attention-seeking bullshit keep getting more and more ridiculous.

Hip Hop Gamer claimed at the time that Crash Bandicoot would be released for PS4. It was later announced.
Oct 2024 he claimed Halo will be coming to the PS5 in 2026.

Halo devs not that long ago rocked PS shirts while having an announcement video for Halo coming to the PS5 in… 2026.

Wow, to think he's still up and running. I remember the 360 vs PS3 days where he acts as the hype machine for every possible "what if" scenario. Glad to see he hasn't changed.
