Steam coming to PS6, according to Hiphop Gamers

Yeah of course are Sony gonna give up their 30% profit from every purchase on their store and give it to steam for free.

Or worse, Sony takes 30% and Steam takes another 30%.
Then there are taxes. So the dev either takes almost nothing. Or the gamer has to pay 30% more.

Yeah it ain't gonna happen, valve would never agree on that

Can't believe that dude is still around. He most definitely shouldn't be considered a source for any gaming news, he's just a clown who puts on a show.

Sony putting Steam on PS6 would be like Apple putting the Google Play store on iPhones. It's never gonna happen. Those business models are based on closed ecosystems. If you open it up you give people no reason to buy your hardware, and your hardware would have to be a lot more expensive because you won't be able to count on software sales to make up for selling systems at or below cost. And if big Chinese comapnies like TCL or Hisense start making their own Steamboxes, they will be able to undercut the PS6 by a lot.

No chance of PS6 running Steam games natively. The biggest reach that would have a tiny chance of happening is being able to stream Steam games on PS6, through an app on the console, that's it.

He got it twisted. Sony will launch a PC digital store and their games will shift to timed ecosystem exclusive instead of timed platform exclusive.

Sony would probably work better with Epic game store then steam considering sony worked with Epic on unreal 5 engine and have have game store integrated with sonys platform have cross buy with console and pc and have something similar to steam link or if u have a pc game thats not available on ps6 then ps6 have the ability to stream that pc game on the console with mouse n keyboard support. Would be good to see another unreal tournament game

I gotta admit, this dude's staying power impresses me. I remember well over fifteen years ago looking at this idiot and thinking "Hip Hop Gamer? That's his name? Don't tons of gamers like hip hop? What if I was Metal Gamer? It makes no sense, there's no way anyone cares enough about this niche for him to be around long", boy.....I was real fuckin wrong; this jackass certainly has his audience. It'd be one thing if he rapped while interviewing people or something, though I'd hate that even more, but at least it would make sense to call him Hip Hop Gamer at that point, but no, he's just a loud guy who carries a belt around and talks an absurd amount of absolute bullshit of the highest caliber, and for some reason people tune in.

Boggles the mind.

Wasn't this the guy that sweared on his life that the PS5 would be 100% backwards compatible with all previous PS generations? How did that turn out?

What a dumb assertion. Reason why third party PC stores coming to Xbox Magnus is because it's the same windows NT kernel, API, dev tech, and environment. Plus MS controls the windows ecosystem so they're trying to piggyback Console hardware into the larger PC Gaming ecosystem.

That would make sense to do long term, both strategically and practically since they have chosen to go multiplatform for Native playing, Cloud Gaming is universally multiplatform by its nature.

Only way this would happen on a Sony platform, is IF Sony were to start releasing PlayStation PCs, with windows in addition to PlayStation Consoles, like how Xbox intends to.

So a PlayStation PC with a Sony PC storefront built into it. Sony has made PC hardware before, when they owned VAIO, and they have started launching PC gaming hardware under the Playstation moniker. So a PlayStation PC gaming hardware is feasible. If Sony thinks they could make money from the brand selling high end hardware. But they would need the Sony PC store in place first.

There's no way Steam will come to PS6 consoles, unless Sony made a deal with MS to run windows on the hardware or a deal with Apple to run MacOS variant. Playstation Orbis OS is based on FreeBSD which is unix based, same as MacOS. Even then, Sony doesn't have incentive to put Steam on consoles.

So if Sony wants to sell pre built windows gaming PCs under the Playstation brand, to act as their "Pro" hardware, that's the only way this rumor will happen.

HHGamer is easily the most fun leaker out there, genuinely follow him for his enthusiasm, but he's very hit and miss.

So the same company that said they want to slow PC releases, will now include the biggest PC store on their platform?

Come on, can we just stop using every single person as a source?

That would be the most retarded thing Sony could do. It would immediately invalidate all of Sony's shitty digital ecosystem.
Only way they could make it work is that it requires the highest tier of ps plus to use it

But still there would be no reason to buy from the ps store

He doesn't know shit.

He has spent years throwing shit at the wall until something comes true and then claims he knew.
oh we have one like this in France : Julien Chieze

React to a rumor (or create a rumor) says it might be true, or not true, or maybe true, then when it appears to be true or false he claims "see, I told you so"

Well technically the PS4 and PS5 runs a customized variant of FreeBSD which is modern day Unix the OS that inspired Linux and that can run some Linux software.

In fact there is a desktop variant of FreeBSD called GhostBSD that is able run Steam via Linux compatibility tool and FreeBSD is able to use the Vulkan RADV driver Valve works on.

In his video he mentions multiple OS on the PS6 it might even just be a siloed version of SteamOS running on the system completely separate from the Playstation OS side.

Still seems highly unlikely Sony would treat the 6 as a Steam Machine/Xbox PC alternative and move away from traditional closed console.

The only way the rumor makes sense from a business POV is to attempt classifying the PS6 as a computer device to get the tax break, but that would require additional applications beyond Steam, namely productivity application suites, to qualify.

I said a long time ago that expanding PlayStation into more of a microcomputer platform (i.e an Amiga-type) would be beneficial in the long run, but that didn't include jumping right ahead and providing a competing gaming storefront like Steam on PS6 three years from now. There's no immediate upside outside bragging rights, but those bragging rights won't do much if you've no way to monetize that other storefront being on your platform.

Still though, moving PlayStation into a microcomputer-like platform is probably going to be the main way SIE justify making future PS hardware, especially if costs keep rising for components and game software budgets, because it gets them aforementioned tax breaks and justifies charging a higher price on the hardware. They just have to avoid the slippery slope of trying to make it more like a "PC" because that and, say, an Amiga/Sharp X68000/NEC PC-88/Commodore 64 type are very different types of computers.

I doubt any of this is happening but another thing they could do is if you buy the game on the ps store you get a PS version and Steam version with 1 purchase, while if you buy the game on Steam you only get the Steam version

Sony still gets their full cut and Steam doesn't get anything since you got it free

In addition to needing ps plus to use steam

Not going to happen. There is no infrastructure there. Ps5 is isn't Linux, it isn't windows.
