Steam controller!! Why is it worthless? Tell me, how!

Now you know how your grandparents feel when you hand them a controller.

the controller is a very powerful one with endless customizable options. I used it for awhile but in the end I was never as good with it as a keyboard and mouse and it never felt as good as a Xbox pad for games designed for that control system so in the end for me it wasn't worth the effort.

There is no point in have a controller that you need hours programming it to works lol

You will end wasting more time programming the controller than playing.

It is basically an useless device.

Many of my issues with the controller were due to poor or half baked SCAPI support in many games + said games not allowing you to set which types of button prompts were displayed. I got rid of mine cuz the hassle wasn't worth it IMO

The steam controller is actually objectively superior to any input device sans a mouse and keyboard to play fps, third person shooters, and third person cover shooter games. The touch pad gives you quick 180 degree turns with the swipe of a thumb. The gyroscope gives you precision aim unmatched on the console realm. It has paddle buttons for additional inputs as well as dual stage triggers that act for more inputs.

Objectively superior to the thing that comes free with your PC? Count me in!

Anything that has you jumping through hoops to prove it's worth is subjectively inferior -- which is all that really matters to the general public -- Ask the WiiU (with it's gyroscopes etc)

Personally, I think that the 3DS touchscreen was the best input device for third person FPS, specifically Kid Icarus --it was unbelievably responsive and quick once you got used to it.

But getting used to it was a major hurdle, a game in it's self. And was also painful. This is far too much to ask for most people.

If we are measuring performance then it is absolutely objectively superior to traditional game pads with sticks. You can use a steam controller and not be extremely handicapped in a game vs mouse and keyboard users.

I find the button quality on the bumpers and when you press down on the pads to be of such a low quality. They are hard to press and loud as fuck. Should have been much much softer.

So much better for first-person games than dual analog. How can anyone suffer with sticks when you can use a momentum touch on this thing... flicking the view fast to one side then immediately moving back into a precision control, all a million times smoother and more precise than a stick.

[Before steam controler] trackpads for gaming are a joke
[steam controller announced] wait Valve are making a controller? it uses trackpads? they must have done something amazing that makes them work!
[after steam controller released] trackpads for gaming are a joke
