I'd prefer no such generalizations at all. I mean you're also taking bloody Doom of all things as an example, because it did really well. Is that now suddenly a mechanically complex game?
I mean Diablo is also super popular and that game doesn't even require a brain to play.
These games both are not exactly complex but still incredibly "gamey", there's no story, no cutscenes or any form of "cinematicness" taking away from the play in these games, they are still in line with what i'm talking about.
It's like you read half the sentence and just stopped.
I really don't buy into this 'established fanbase' thing. Dark Souls 1 had no trouble selling copies on PC. Came out a year later even!
The established fanbase is one of many factors, Dark Souls is also the very kind of game i'm talking about that is very suited to the interests of the PC audience. Gamey and mechanics that allow for certain levels of depth.
Unlike Nier which, as aforementioned, is a more story focused game with rather shallow combat
IPlatinum had already released MGR:R on PC before Nier, so it's not like they were completely new on PC.
On PC they had MGR, Transformers and Korra.
On sony consoles for comparison they had
MGR, Transformers, Korra, Anarchy Reigns, Mad World, Bayonetta, Vanquish
These things make a difference. You don't just throw out one game or two and suddenly have a giant fanbase the size of one who did ten.
You make it seem like PC gamers live in a bubble and know nothing about what's going on in the console space. I believe there is a strong crossover actually and many of them have consoles themselves (which is why they don't buy these games on PC).
Of course this is only anecdotal, but there were multiple pc gaf users that did not knew about this game having been announced for PC until they found out in threads in which people complained that SE is pretending said version away.
IWhere do you take these numbers from? Before DS3 it seemed to have been at
40%. Wouldn't surprise me if PC just ate into Xbox shares here, since Japanese games seem to underperform on that platform in general.

That was 8 Million copies shipped total (Shipped not sold!), 3.5 million of which were sold (Actually sold, not shipped) on PC
Unless you think the Souls Franchise is selling basically 0 copies on xbox, the PC version is selling at least on par with PS4, if not more.
