remember kids, The_Technomancer says:

THE RULES OF STEAM SALES
If it is not a daily deal, do not buy. Wait until the last day for all sale-long purchases, because they often will go on daily deal.

Other tips:
-Search other regions of the Steam store by adding'?cc=uk', '?cc=us', '?cc=fr' at the end of Steam's address.
-You can spread the payments over multiple credit cards by adding money from each card/ account to your steam wallet:
1)Log into the client
2)Click on '.... account' at the top right corner of the page
3)Click 'add funds to Steam wallet'
-If you are charged twice for a purchase, DO. NOT. FILE. A. CHARGEBACK! Work with Valve directly to fix the issue.
(thanks LovingSteam)

Prize booth page: http://store.steampowered.com/summersale/prizebooth/

Highlights of the FAQ:

What if I selected a prize for a game I don’t own? Will it work if I buy the game later?

Yes, the prize will work if you purchase the game at a later date. However, prizes will not show up in your game list. If you want to see your prizes (even for games you don’t own), you can see them in your “Account Details” view, which is accessible from the Steam Store.

Can I still complete Achievements for previous days and earn Tickets?

Yes. A list of previous day’s Achievements can be found here. They can be completed through the last day of the Steam Summer Camp Sale.

***REGARDING DWARFS!?***

Don't waste your tickets on the Dwarfs?! DLC, if you launch the game, the DLC is there already, you just don't own it unless you buy it with tickets or get all the DLC achievements, it expires on the 22nd, so plenty of time.

So, because some of the achievements are bloody obscure in how they're worded, let's get some tips going.

I'll post the ones I have that aren't in the OP...

BIT.TRIP BEAT - Sunbathing
Start a new game from the first level, and don't miss any blocks - it's about 70 blocks, and you can quit out when you get the achievement.

If you managed to get the achievement in Shatter last time around, this is a doddle...

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II: Retribution - Promethium Summer
Play Last Stand as the Imperial Guard General (He looks like Freddy Mercury) and select flamethrower as your weapon, you'll get it very quickly.

'Kills' count as 'you did some damage on an enemy before it died'.
If you haven't played Last Stand before, you'll quickly discover the Imperial Guard General sucks until he's levelled a bit...

AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity - Air. Wind. Sun. Pain. I Am All of This, and Your Mom Makes a Fine Pasta Dinner
I hate this game. Wish I'd never bought it. It's like an unfun Pilotwings.

Choose the new map from the menuscreen (bottom left, sun icon) and try and hit all of the plates without restarting at a checkpoint too often.

You're better off deliberately crashing so that you can make sure you get all the plates than in trying to do a perfect run. Make sure you land in the red circle at the end too.

Swords and Soldiers HD - Vamos a la playa
This is pretty easy. If you've already played this game enough, you can just go to this level and select it, if not its pretty early in the game anyway.

You can pretty much brute force this one just by using lightning magic and heal magic on berzerkers.

Don't forget to send troops along both 'pathways' by clicking on the blue arrows so that you kill everyone (ie do the opposite of how the game suggests you play this level).

SpaceChem - Science is an Indoor Activity
Just do a few of the research net puzzles. If you haven't got far enough just select 'hack into the system' as an option.

I did some of the old ones so that I didn't have to hurt my brain too much with multiple reactors; specifically I did Tunnels I and Fission I and Fission II.

I can post screenies of my terribad solutions if anyone needs :s

Team Fortress 2 - Escape the Heat
Pretty easy to get, just make sure you don't select Pyro, as they don't catch on fire.

I did this by going Heavy and playing on Well, but that's mostly because I hate 2Fort.

Not sure if anyone else has posted this, but here's how you get the Jolly Rover Achievement. It should take less than 20 minutes, especially if you read below:

Once you get past Melvin and go upstairs for the first time go to the Kitchen on the left.
Pick up the peppercorn from the cupboard on the left.
Pick up the dried fish on the hook nearby.
Use the oiled scarf on the window to the far left.
Put the dried fish on the hook near the window you just oiled.
Open the window.
Put the peppercorn in the spilled Rum.
Open the window again.
Done!

Just start Versus mode with 2 local players, get rain and spam rain 'til the achievement unlocks.

Got done getting the HOARD achievement/ticket and it wasn't as hard as I initially thought. There was a tip in the HOARD forums on which map to get this achievement, and it's the last map in Hoard mode, Deathtrap I think (some map with a spiral shape).

At the start of the map, head straight for the lower right corner and continually clear that area of the town and tower. As time progresses, you'll notice that the carriages will continuously spawn and travel near that area. Your dragon should be able to burn them even though there is a mountain/wall blocking you. The only thing to look out for are the damn wizard towers that fire very damaging energy balls at you. If you keep playing, you should be able to destroy at least 20 carriages before the amount of wizard towers/knights overwhelm you. I got this around the 5:50 minute mark in the map. Took about 6-7 retries.

For the Defense Grid ticket.

Out of Fuel:

Start with this
Then add a laser on the top left
2 lasers at the right
3 meteors behind the tesla/temporal
Upgrade, begin with Tesla and Temporal

Barriers Entry
http://i53.tinypic.com/2eoi6fm.jpg
That first lane will kill almost everything. Add more towers (Tesla/some Laser) on the right side of the map. If aliens can get to the cores, block passage so that they will have go down the ramp

Veil of Ice
http://i55.tinypic.com/2mezakg.jpg
Tricky one to show, does if you start with this you'll be good. Upgrade those towers and add some more. If aliens are getting near the cores, try to block the direct passage and sent them towards those towers you built in the first wave. Dont forget to put two missiles towers near the cores, upgrade at least one

Guardians Fall (last map)
Basically: put teslas in areas adjacent to the path and lasers in the toher areas, and some meteors when you dont have line of sight

I forgot the square near the cores: I used
Tesla - Temporal
Tesla - Tesla

M&B WARBAND

First, you must make sure that 'ENABLE CHEATS' is disabled/unchecked in the configure menu.
Next, follow these steps - I did the same things myself with this new save file (taken from a Steam Forum User's post):

Quote:
1. Make a female character.

2. Once you're in Calradia, the land you're playing in, try and navigate to closest city (they are bigger settlements than castles and villages).

3. Click on the city, enter the Tavern. Locate a man that isn't called Book Merchant, Wandering poet, Ransom Broker or something with Mercenaries. In other words - someone with a real name. This person is a companion. Talk to him and hire him (this will cost you 200-300 denars*).

4. Press Tab to enter the City menu and enter the Marketplace->Weapon market. look for the cheapest sword that is in the 'great sword' category (two-handed). It will cost up to some hundreds denars*

5. Leave the city and enter the party menu, lower right corner. Talk to your Male character -> take a look at his gear/equipment -> put the great sword in one of his weapon slot.

*if you lack in money you will have to raid some looters before getting the companion or the sword, do so by riding around until you find a grey unit running around, good luck!

Also, if there is no companion or great sword in the town you choose, you will simply have to ride to another town.
Finally, and this appears to be equally important, CAMP or WAIT in the city you found it (as soon as you purchase the sword and equip it, don't leave) for a few days and the ticket/achievement should unlock.

Easy Counter-Strike Source ticket by Gez

Create a private server with bots
Set server with:

Bots go to Counter-Terrorists (so they don't plant the bomb as Terrorists)
Set Bots to easy
Make them only use Knifes (so they don't shoot back)
Set map to De-Dust 2 so they always come up the ramp

You can pretty much shoot 3 of the bots with 1 bullet cause they are dumb

Took under 30 seconds

LovingSteam's corner:

What is Steam
A digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute games and related media online, from small independent developers to larger software houses. Steam also has community features, automated game updates, and in-game voice and chat functionality.

As of 2011, there are over 1,500 + games available through Steam.[3] In January 2010 Valve claimed that it had surpassed 25 million active user accounts.[4] Although Valve never releases sales figures, Steam is estimated to have a 70% share of the digital distribution market for video games.[5]

Many major publishers have catalogs on Steam, including Electronic Arts, Activision, 2K Games, Ubisoft, THQ, Sega, Codemasters, id Software, LucasArts, Capcom, Rockstar Games, Square Enix, Microsoft, and Bethesda Softworks.

Security-
1. Verify Email HERE
2. Steam Guard-Within steam go to Steam> Settings> Manage Steam Gaurd>Keep account guarded by Steam Guard. For more info go here
3. Fishing Attempts- Valve will NEVER email you with sales or include a link that requires you log in. Its a phishing scam. Don't fall for it.

FAQ-
How do I contact Steam support?
Steam Support
Is my support account the same as my Steam account?
No. Your Steam, Steam Forums, and Steam Support accounts are all different
Is there offline mode?
Yes, from within the client click on 'Steam' and then select 'Go offline'. You will have to store your log in information and periodically (every 30 days?) go online to verify files.
How can I add a non Steam game to the client?
Go to 'GAMES' and click on 'Add a non-Steam game to library'

Remember you can also pay with PayPal

UPDATE: SUMMER SALE FAQ

For better browsing on the different store prices (depending on region) you can always use SteamPrices

idRTdg.JPG

SteamPrices.com compares game and package prices from the Steam Store. At the moment, USD, GBP and EUR for a bunch of different regions are supported.

This site was created in order to show the huge difference in Steam Store prices for single games and packages. You can choose one of the supported currencies and compare "your" price to the ones in the other countries and regions. By and by, some comfortable comparison features and other stuff have been added, especially for registered users.

By the help of SteamPrices.com, you are able to search for games and packages and access multiple listings. Additionally, current spotlights and Steam news are also displayed.

For better browsing of every game on sale at the moment i recommend using SteamGameSales (great to find the cheapest sale-long discounts)

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
Well, I think that we should all ignore Steam for at least an hour or two, unless if some weird glitchy prices appear.

We have seen discounts change (sometimes up, sometimes down) on the daily deals as the things settle down but for the most part, patience is a virtue. That being said, by the end of this, my wallet will ask me for mercy!

Aww fuck. Just as I'm going on vacation. I'll be able to buy stuff but I can't play anything except lightweight titles since the PIECE OF SHIT 3D graphics chip in my PIECE OF SHIT laptop over heats after about 5 minutes of 3D rendering.

Thus, I won't be able to do the various challenges. :-(

Kinda glad I only have a laptop and it's a Mac. I have a Windows partition on it but I rarely use it, mostly because I can't play many games on this computer.

I'll still maybe spend more than I should...
