Been rewatching the series, this time dubbed & I must say that Funimation did a rather good job on it to the point I think aside from a few scenes (I AM MAD SCIENTIST!!), I prefer the dub.

Will have to see on the VNs. I would love to get the games on Vita to play/read them on the go, but I don't think that's happening.

Yeah, Funimation has the entire series subbed on YouTube for free, as linked above. A great way to watch the series to see if you want to check it out or eventually grab the dub. That's how I watched it & I'm really glad they did that. Heck, maybe add that to the OP for those who haven't seen/finished the series.

Those aren't made by fans, but rather for fans. ^^
And I'd actually call them "spin-offs", myself.

Ah. I see. I haven't really delved into Japanese anime/gaming culture in a while so that explains my lack of understanding. I would think that all games in a series after the original would be for the fans of the original though... haha

Looks like the OVA episode is locked behind a free trial/paywall on the Funimation site though. Dunno how interesting it is?

Playing the visual novel after the anime is great. While it's definitely retreading familiar territory (as the anime is a faithful adaptation) being able to experience the story from a first person Okabe perspective sheds a lot on his character, and my god the alternate endings.
(also contains the superior yellow eyed Suzuha) (watching dubs robs you of the best VA ever)

Ah, right, forgot the OVA isn't free.

It's decent. There's a nice little nod to Daru &
meeting his future wife
and it feels like an epilogue that tries to patch things up. It works well & has its moments. It's a nice little extra that, while doesn't add a whole lot, still is enjoyable for anyone that enjoyed the series.

Oh, & the movie was rather good too.

Quick question. Is the English Localization going to include both English and Japanese audio?
Just Japanese audio.

Just watched the first ep and it sure is interesting. It's a bit confusing since I really can't say what's going on yet but hopefully the next episodes will explain.

I have a relatively weird stance on the movie. I go on a few forums and many people who've watched it seem to have varied opinions from hating it to loving it and I'm in the loving it camp.

Below are major plot spoilers for the movie and also the first game/anime series.

Yes, you may say it's somewhat unnecessary but
I thought the concepts and issues they bought up in the movie were relatively interesting. I found it hard to believe at the end of the game/series that everything ended perfectly since until then everything had been a disaster.

The thing I liked the most about it was it finally gave Kurisu, the best character a chance to finally truely understand not only her feelings for him, but also his feelings for her. Okabe had given so much to save both him and Mayuri and although everyone somewhat remembered the events through dreams only Okabe was the one who in his current form had to live through it all.

Despite everything she'd ever believed as a physicist and despite never knowing about time machines first hand she fought her memories to try and build the time leap machine in order to save him and although he told her not to do it and she agreed, eventually her feelings got the best of her and she made the time machine, much like Daru did in the Alpha timeline and Okabe did himself in the Beta timeline to send Suzuha back to try and fix things.

I loved how the time machine this time rather than being FG204 which was Daru's invention after the Future Gadget motif him and Okabe always added to everything they created, but it was called OR204. I'm also not entirely sure on this but I think the OR might stand for Operation Ragnarok which as far as I can remember was the name Okabe gave to the operation near the end where he went back to fool time to save Kurisu from the attractor field convergance

I'd actually go as far as saying it propelled itself into one of my favourite movies (although I don't watch all that many).

Rewatching b/c of this thread. Goddamn that
Akiba ending of Episode 9
gets me every time. Such an amazing show.

I'm going to watch a couple episodes later today, StayDead! Be proud of me! <3

I'm almost done with it. Started watching it yesterday night and stayed up quite a bit watching it since it was soooo good. I think I got to ep 19 or 20. Seems weird though that it's getting into the kinda romance(for lack of a better word to describe this) stuff now.

I am proud but...

don't missunderstand, it's not like I like you anymore than I did... idiot! *runs away*

I just rewatched this as I got the blurays for Christmas. Still as good as it was in 2011. One of my top of all time. I mean moments like Kurisu making Relativity sound so romantic is sexy. Ahem.

Maybe I should rewatch this dubbed.

You've been missing out. The dub is fan fucking tastic.

I'm not sure I could watch a dub of Steins;Gate. I love the original voices too much and Asami Imai is a goddess.

While I'm very fond of the JP voices and I love Asami Imai, I give mad props to the dub production. The script is extremely well translated and completely carries the characters' natures. It's really good.

I watched the dub, and it was really good. One day I'll rewatch and compare the sub.

Anyway, Steins;Gate! Probably my favorite anime! Looking forward to the VN's... eventual English release.

Oh man I just got finished with watching the anime. AMAZING
It was the second anime ever* where I just said "fuck it" and watched everything in one sitting, which is basically the best praise I can give out.
And now I find out there's a movie too? TUTTURUU

*
first was Paranoia Agent

Don't forget the OVA. It's set after the series but before the film!

I love excellent dubs, gotta give them credit when they exist. I'll definitely watch this subbed first time, but I'll keep that in mind for a rewatch.

So it wouldn't be bad to watch the anime, and then play the VN when the english version drops? I already have it pre-ordered, but I don't want to ruin it for myself.

That's what I did and although I can see the other side of the coin I personally didn't have a problem with it. You'll get to see the true end animted in the anime to start with, but you don't get to see any of the other endings or side bits they never animated (although a few appear in the film). The game as well adds a hell of a lot of details to everything so it fleshes out what you already know.

Maybe some people wouldn't enjoy that, but I prefer seeing the lower detail before heading up to the higher detail since you can't feel dissappointed they didn't animate certain bits or whatever.

That sounds good to me, I think I would enjoy it more if I was familiar with it.

I think I will just watch it.

Aha I remember that figure. I was actually going to get it until I found out it released on a month where I already had a ton of other stuff ordered. In other news I fought through my cold today to open up my Kurisu white coat ver. figma! Sorry for the bad quality photo, one of these days I'll set myself up a decent area to take proper photos of things.

It's not the pose I was planning to use either but if there's one thing I hate about figmas is that I can never pose the arms properly no matter how hard I try :p

It's such a cool figure. I love the little slippers, and the crossed arms the Figma comes with.

Marathoned the show in one day with a few friends a while back, headache aside it was AMAZING.

Probably one of the strongest character acts in all of anime. Genuinely funny and touching.

NICE!! Waiting for mine to come in along with Okabe.
