And the weird Empathy powers? The terrifying ability to create and control sentient plant life?

I think there is enough weirdness with how strangely overpowered she seems compared to what we know of other Gems in her strata (Jasper, Amethyst) to question her abilities.

What empathy powers?
You're talking about Steven's powers? Why are people assuming all of Steven's powers are things Rose could do? The gems seem to always point out when a power of his is something Rose could do. I don't remember them saying his Dream walking was Rose's thing or that his spike ball was a Rose thing ... or that Rose could body jump into people/ plant golems.

We already know he's surpassed her in atleast 2 areas. (Healing Corruption. Rose tried but was not able to do as well as Steven did in his first try even though he still didn't fully heal her. Garnet says Rose's plants "Live to fight" and we saw some of her plaints try to kill Steven and Amy once. Steven's plants were like that at first but he took charge of them, told them some flowery shit and now they've evolved into these neat lil docile people who live life like reg folk, not going on murderous rampages)

Here's Rose's known Powers outside of normal gem stuff ...
Floating
Plant Golem warriors
Healing Tears
Her summoned Shield allows for amazing defense, even able to block "Diamond Damage".

That's not too out there when you frame it in the light that she seems to be designed as a defensive Gem warrior. She could make golems to fight from a range, have the power to heal and protect allies and her floating gives her more mobility options than most to help in that.

Over all I think that the show has been hammering in a message that Gems don't know all of what they can do and that's a special thing about being on earth, the learn so much about themselves that they wouldn't know under HW's rule. And Steven, being Half human, is a complete unknown in what he can do and what powers may be expressed.

Spoilers for Future Episode Know Your Fusion:
Garnets reaction is soooooo good, and from the split second we got we saw Sardonyx aswell, gonna be really interesting to see different gems and different fusions interacting with each other.

Aaaaaa!
So GOOOOOD!
I love it, the episode was fantastic!

My poor buff tough baby though T.T
I love how the crewniverse managed to make her motivations so clear while also dropping some major lore bombs in the process.
Man...
...the road to Jasper's redemption was basically paved while she was berating Steven/Rose; I hope she's cured sooner than later.

I really wish I had waited to watch it with Beta; they really were meant to be watched as one. The buildup and casual world building in "Beta" really amplifies the impact "Earthlings" has.

So when Jasper says "because of what Rose did to my planet" she's referring to what planet exactly?

Earth.
I thought that was pretty clear.
Earth was Jasper's colony, the planet she was born on and the place where she was supposed to serve HER diamond.
By starting the rebellion, removing Pink Diamond from the picture (...somehow...), and forcing homeworld off-planet Rose Quartz took everything from Jasper; basically bringing her into a world of intense warfare, ruining a colony that could've been great, stunting the abilities/forms of her quartz sisters, and turning her into (what she feels was...) a purposeless failure with no choice but to kowtow to another diamond to feel valuable.

It's probably been pointed out, but re-watching "It Could've Been Great" I noticed a continuity error in "Beta":
Peridot had mentioned the Beta kindergarten to Amethyst on the moon.

No one really cared about it at the time cause it wasn't important. The big thing in Beta was that Jasper came from earth and came from the beta area.

So, I think most people are in agreement that Jasper's corruption is at least in part because of her emotional / mental state, but what if the tipping point wasn't fusing with a corrupted gem and it taking a toll on her, but fusing with a corrupted gem, realizing it was still sentient and then being forced to understand the feelings the corrupted gems she captured felt?

You know, it does seem a bit weird that a piston-based weapon would be considered the ultimate melee weapon for an alien race? Then again, I don't recall if any of the basic weapons the gems possess are even created by their own being or maybe Gems just are able to hold items inside their bodies........just like Lion.......O_O!

Ok, like, 5300whatever years pass and you'd figure the Breaking Point would be considered very primitive by now...or maybe not if Homeworld just keeps on relying on living weapons as Jaspers to do the efficient killings.

Also: when is Garnet and Pearl going to tell everything they know about the war to Steven?

The very first episode made it very clear that a Gem can manifest a weapon by being in-tune with themselves. This may not be inherent knowledge to everyone on Homeworld. I liken it to how humans/other races in DBZ can master lighter-than-air travel and the ability to project ki from their bodies through vigorous training, but most of the populace is unaware/ignorant of this latent ability.

After yesterday's great episodes lets see if things can be topped in:

Back to the Moon
Steven and the Gems return to the Moon Base.
Get your ass to (the) Moon.

See you tonight at 7!

Fantastic episodes as usual.
All the Jasper, smoky quartz and lore bombs were great but I absolutely adored all of the Peridot and Lapis stuff/interactions in "Beta". It's really great to see how much the two have bonded since the start of the season. The Peridot Lapis checkup was hilarious.

On Jasper:
I dunno, It seemed obvious to me that Jasper's corruption was caused by fusing with a corrupted gem. Her failing mental state merely accelerated it. Corruption is like a disease, and being physically and mentally tied to an infected gem would be the catalyst.

Beta is only the second episode where nothing bad or traumatic happens to Lapis. The first one was Hit the Diamond, and even there she was mostly mopey while playing a baseball game with high intergalactic stakes.

It was nice to see her just be happy and have fun for once. She's still sarcastic and dry (which has been one of my favorite developments for her character), but she's smiling and laughing with someone other than Steven for once.

It feels pretty straightforward to say that the corruption originally was caused by the weapon at the end of the war and it can also be spread through fusion

Yeah, I don't think Jasper's mental state had any sort of causality to it. At most I say it might have accelerated the process but I'm still not sure on that.

so are we on the 4th season now
As big and exciting as Earthlings was, it still wasn't the season finale. We have Back to the Moon tonight and the Season 3 finale Bubbled tomorrow night.

Season 4 starts Thursday with The Kindergarten Kid and continues with Know Your Fusion on Friday. We then surprisingly go back to weekly episodes starting next Thursday.

It's been a great time for Steven Universe fans. The drought afterwards is going to be a real bummer.

I enjoyed seeing Peridot and Lapis being great roomies, such a nice change from the last time we saw them. I'm so glad I didn't get spoiled on that Earthlings fusion. Once again another great two parter. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the weeks episodes.

Thanks For the answers guys.

I hope we get another epic moment similar to the Garnet vs Jasper fight from season 2.

I would like another song.

Jasper staying loyal to home world, i called it!
I just didn't figure it would be because she thinks Rose seemingly killed Pink diamond

I was hoping the developments of this episode would have people stop asking for Jasper to join the CG, but i guess i was mistaken.

For know i have the satisfaction of knowing the writers did what i thought was the logical narrative path, nyah nyah nyah!

Smokey Quartz is the best! Yoyo weapons rock.Gotta say, when the name leaked i assumed it was going to be
Amethyst + Peridot
rather than what we got, but they were super cool!

Earth.

I think she might have meant the fact that she stopped the colonization/harvest of earth and those "Jasper's planet" is overrun with life and organics and humans rather than whatever gem-forming is supposed to look like.

It feels pretty straightforward to say that the corruption originally was caused by the weapon at the end of the war and it can also be spread through fusion

Pretty smart rally, considering Rose's forces were very open to the idea of fusing different gems together. Even if they didn't wipe out/ corrupt them all they made sure those who remained were even more alone and weak.

I'm just going to call it now.

Rose is Vadering us with the whole Pink Diamond business.

I think it'll go something like this:

Jasper: "I'LL NEVER JOIN YOU!!! YOU KILLED MY DIAMOND!"

Rose: "No... I AM your diamond!"

Jasper: "NOOOOOOOOOOO"

The eventual reveal will be genius, mostly since the crewniverse VERY EXPLICITLY led us one way, only to toy with our minds and pull us in a different direction, only to eventually lead us all back on track.

Back to the Moon

Well fuck.

How the fuck did Rose manage that? Did she use the breaking point after all?

Pretty obvious now that the WMD was used as retaliation for what Rose had done.

to the moon spoiler-Marty failed to title

Please make sure leaked episodes are marked with title.
