Steven Universe Season 3 |OT| Clods Among Us

It's a bunch of little things. Some are related to that - like, really, Amethyst never learned there was more than one kindergarten? Bismuth really threw me, though. Not that the gems have really fond memories of this other gem that nobody's ever mentioned and who hasn't shown up in flashbacks of the war, so much, but the premise of the episode is just really implausible. Everyone already knows that Lion is associated with Rose. Everyone knows that Lion's got access to a bunch of stuff Rose hid or stashed away. Pearl in particular has been really strongly affected by stuff coming out of Lion's mane, like the sword and standard. Steven's apparently in and out of there all the time for things as trivial as drinks, and he'd seen Bismuth's bubble before and I'm pretty sure had even told the other gems that a bubble was in there (also Pearl has historically exhibited a weird attachment to another Rose bubble). None of the gems ever thought it might be important to take an inventory of what's in Lion's mane? Steven never thought to ask any of the gems about the weird stuff he's seen in there?

Edit: And similarly, nobody seems to stop and ask why Bismuth was bubbled in Lion's mane.
I just don't buy it. And definitely not with Garnet around. I mean, I expect it was really really obvious to every viewer that Bismuth was bad news, and that took like 2 minutes. I don't think that that was only story cues. You pretty much immediately go from "Rose bubbled and hid Bismuth" to wondering "why did Rose bubble and hide Bismuth?" Unless these characters are supposed to be seriously questioning Rose's judgment (which maybe they should be, but mostly they're not) the presumption here has got to be that Rose had a good reason for that. You don't suspend your worries for a day to hang out with the huge potential threat that just showed up and then leave her alone with what is in some sense a highly vulnerable form of the person that is responsible for her being trapped in a bubble for thousands of years.
Those are all very good points. When you get down to it, the Crystal Gems have a really low capacity for critical thinking when it is convenient.

With Bismuth, I think the writers had the climax and then worked backwards. Even with a full 22 minutes they still ended up cutting corners.

I'm pretty sure I remember Steven explicitly telling the other gems that Bismuth had been in a bubble inside Lion's mane. Regardless, come on, at minimum someone's going to wonder why Bismuth is stepping out of Lion's mane, at which point Steven says "oh she was in a bubble" which lets everyone know that Rose bubbled and hid away Bismuth while lying about what happened to her. This just doesn't strike me as a complex chain of logic or something that depends on subtle details that the gems might not notice.

Later in the episode pearl says that rose "by the looks of it was able to protect you", which is probably the faulty logic they were using to justify why bismuth had disappeared for 5,000 years and popped out of lions Maine suddenly. For all they know lions maine doubles as some sort of weird corruption healing device. Hell maybe it takes 5,000 years to completely reverse the effects. They probably weren't thinking about the details, like why rose never mentioned this to them, just were happy she was back.

Also, you'd be surprised at how many people didn't instantly think that bismuth was bad news when watching. My brother didn't start thinking that until amethyst started remarking that Bismuth had never been mentioned before.

I say it was just the heat of the moment where a friend of many years has returned.

Its after the euphoria subsides you then start to question whats really going on.

I bet they're going the avatar the last air bender route with this. How the previous avatars told aang that sometimes you have to kill someone, and then he found a way to resolve things peacefully.

I just watched the episode and the A:TLA ending was the first thing that sprung into my mind

If there was one blight to that series it was this, felt very sloppy in how it happened.

Only to be somewhat eclipsed in sloppiness by its successor series lol

(today and tomorrow spoilers) Tbh
I'm glad Kindergarten Kid showed up when it did, because good god Bubbled was a downer. Love Like You playing made that ending so bittersweet.

Kindergarten Kid
was a Road Runner cartoon.

How is that not great? It was Peridot getting her ass kicked for ten minutes.

This entire episode was basically
a love letter to Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons. The canyon setting, the super fast prey the protagonist is trying to catch, the constant physical comedy, enormous ego leading to elaborate but ineffectual schemes, and even a silhouette hole.

I loved it.

The
rock/bubble loop sequence was probably my favourite. Wasn't expecting anything like that but it was super well-timed.
Great way to kick-off Season 4.

eh,
just because the show makes a homage to Road Runner doesn't automatically make the episode great. I thought it was neither particularly funny nor clever

so, the S2/3 endings (I count them one season, really) haven't lived up to Jail Break, imo. The last couple episodes mostly felt like normal episodes, aside from being two- and three-parters. It's probably time they push on with the central plot again, and another truly memorable fight/song wouldn't hurt either

Uh, we've been having plot-focused episodes for a while. We've gotten quite a few revelations (Pink Diamond) and developments (Jasper's corruption).

I do think we're due for a song soon though.

So, with Bubbled we have confirmation that Rose's healing powers are unique. That is an interesting detail.

Especially since this seems to have been pivotal in allowing the Crystal Gems to hold off homeworld.

we got a lot of exposition, but the situation between Homeworld and Earth has basically been the same since Jasper & friends landed on Earth in S1. I mean, yes okay there was the Cluster but that just ended up being a minor side arc and was resolved quickly. The only things that really changed are that the Cyrstal Gems got a bunch of new members and potential future members, Steven discovered new powers and can fuse with Gems now

This sounds really mean...

Does anyone else hope Peridot gets poofed every time she's hurt? I want to see her put on the star when she regenerates.

Is everyone cool with the Season 4 thread going up later today? I won't be around to post it tomorrow, but I definitely want to have it up before S4 begins.
We don't need a new thread. This one is only 3 months old and very active, there's not even a break between seasons so we don't need a "The show is back" reminder and it's a continuing story, if we hadn't been told Kindergarten Kid was the season 4 premiere we wouldn't even know.

Just rename this the Season 4 |OT| then?

Either that or just drop "season x" from the title. The schedule is too irregular for season threads in my opinion, sometimes we have huge breaks within a season but keep the thread and now only a 24 hour period between seasons 3 and 4 and get a new one just because?

so... I know we all love SU in here and if we had a general cartoon thread it would likely be dominated by SU...

but why don't we have a general cartoon thread.

I mean we have an anime and a toonami thread.

but there isn't a good place to go to talk about ultimate spider man, the loud house, star vs the forces of evil.

or even a good thread for people to talk about old finished shows like avatar or gravity falls.

just seems weird *shrugs*

I'm expecting no new opening until Lapis officially becomes a Crystal Gem.

I hope she holds off on officially joining until Steven sets his sights on the big picture instead of going the route Rose went.

I really think that was her problem with the CGs in the past.

The OP of this thread is also banned, plus it's lacking various QoL fixings like Psx's S1 episode guide and the updated spoiler policy regarding rampant leaks.

Making a new thread for S4 is very warranted imo, and if S5 comes quickly enough that we can simply reuse that thread that that can be arranged.

Ok, so will this next SUniverse episode have a new opening?
very doubtful,
leaked kindergarten kid didn't have it

Perhaps a S4+ thread or just OT2, due to banned OP, etc. Can mods assign someone else to an OP?

I like the confirmation that different Rubies have different weapons
Big difference between manifested weapons (Pearl's spear, Garnet's Gauntlets, etc.) and pulling a weapon out from their gem-space (Eyeball's shiv).

I do think we're due for a song soon though.
At least two are known:
Steven singing about Rose
and
a Stevonnie song
. The former is probably likely to happen first considering some of the recent revelations.

terrible

do you always hope that Wile E. Cyote dies?
Only when he talks.

Man, what if the OT was something simple like "Love Like You"? That song has been slowly finished throughout the last season.

Feel like Yellow Diamond is going to kidnap Steven and the finale is all the Crystal Gems coming to save him.

yeah the last bit seemed to be in the last episode.

it seems to be a complete version of the song now. (at least the version that is floating around now feels complete :P)

"Love Me, Like You" at the end feels like the linchpin of the whole song.
Basically, "I wish I could love myself like the way you love me."
It changes the whole meaning.

EDIT: You know, for the record I don't think we need a new OT. It made sense the last two times, what with returning from huge hiatuses and all. Hell, this thread hasn't even gotten 100 pages yet. But with everyone tossing out potential OT titles and Scrafty coming back to make the next thread I didn't want to be the party pooper.

Well anyway, posting some Stevonnies in a soon-to-be dead thread:

Kindergarten Kid leaked

Roadrunner episode...I wonder why Peridot never poofed (other than plot reasons)

Edit: LOL Steven just mentioned it XD)

Big difference between manifested weapons (Pearl's spear, Garnet's Gauntlets, etc.) and pulling a weapon out from their gem-space (Eyeball's shiv)
It looked like a manifested weapon to me. She's an Era-1 Ruby she's supposed to be able to manifest a weapon.

Also I didn't notice at first but the way it's shaped suggests it's for prying gems off which is neat

Kindergarten Kid spoilers:

I totally hoped this would develop into a roadrunner episode, was not disappointed that it turned out that way. If something ever poofs Peridot then you know the Crystal Gems are in trouble.

Rewatching the episodes, man Lapis and Peridot really got close. I wonder if they will fuse. It would be cool for Peridot to finally fuse and Lapis to fuse with someone healthy for her. And man I can't wait to see Steven fuse with other Crystal Gems. That's going to be dope every time it happens. Smoky Quartz was so fucking off the wall.

Peridot and Lapis basically have the same ability (except for the element that they control) so yeah I think they're setting up a fusion with telekinetic powers.

I wonder if we're going to see Peridot telling her that she was the one that poofed Jasper? Probably not.

I'm not a fan of the fourth and fifth one, they make Stevonnie look way too feminine.

Whitewashed Stevonnie with boobs loses points with me. Everything else is acceptable.

That's perfectly fine. So long as you aren't the type to harass artists for not drawing to specific sensibilities then there's no problem. I'll admit the cleavage is a bit much, but that dress + shorts combo looks too good on them. And I'd chalk up their brightened skin tone to strong sunlight when you take into account their hair... although I'm not an artist and I can't see how sunshine can turn what should be jet black hair into what looks like auburn.

While that it is true, I would like to point out that a manifested weapon disappears when the Gem drops it. This has always been the case.
