Everything about this game sounds absolutely amazing.
Don't want to watch any of the stream as don't want to spoil any of it but I expect this to be my GOTY.

This game looks like it has way more too it than I thought. Thought it was just basically going to be running and shooting and stuff, but looks like a full-fledged open-world game. Way more upgrades than I anticipated.

The dialog, delivery and "humor" appears to have been swiped directly from Borderlands. The "punk rock" aesthetic looks like it will get tired really fast. Punk rock? How old were the people that green-lighted that?

Gameplay looks fun, though, like a mix of Jet Set and crackdown.

I'm not sure I'm up for another open-world game right now, though.

What's wrong with Punk rock?

Hmmm , still on the fence.

I like the art style , I know the weapons will be fun because it's insomniac, but the grinding looks janky and it still looks slow. I think the whole grinding mechanic would get old really fast for me.

Ok, this has convinced me to buy it!
Sunset City, here I come!!

Here are some of my impressions of what I liked.

-the humor isn't all that bad (I wouldn't say brilliant, but not bad).
-The world looks very good, and for 900p, I don't notice all that much aliasing, but there is some noticeable pop in.
-Framerate looks to be solid, and even the guy playing seems impressed.
-Gameplay wise, it looks like a lot of fun, and fairly fast paced. If your not skilled at multitasking though, you might not be too good at this, but there seems to be an aim assistant to ease up the difficulty.

Still confused. Punk rock is a genre. Is it now identified only with a time period?

Yes, certain music genres are identified with time periods. Many games take beautiful advantage of this, such as Hotline: Miami, Fallout 3, Bioshock, GTA: Vice City, Cuphead, Wipeout, etc.

Nickelodeon, TNMT style "punk rock" seems like a strange choice for Sunset Overdrive.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

i'd actually put the music aesthetic as much more garage rock than punk.

lot of stuff specifically written for the game by some really cool bands too. more on that sooooooon

Nothing, I guess? Except that this is, you know, 2014? It's an odd choice.

Huh.

Im glad you're not an audio director, then.

Jsteve if there's no speed metal or buttrock I'll be disappointed.

Thanks for the stream!

All right, fair enough.

Do you dislike the music / aesthetic of the other games I mentioned?

Not at all. I agree with what you said about those games. But if you don't think a game like SO doesn't need music like punk in it...come on. Look at the art direction. It's themed as an 'awesomepocalypse'. If that doesn't have some variation of rock in it then that's insane.

I'm currently installing the game, so once it's done I may do a similar stream if anyone would be interested in watching another take on the first portion of the game.

I am hoping the end game content, multiplayer, and challenges have some hooks to keep this my gaming rotation for a while. I feel like the developers in the Best Buy stream didn't do a good job of communicating the length of the game, not only from the single player aspects but the side content. When I finish the single player does the effectively incentivize players to keep playing?

I hope the guys from Insomniac ignore all the "I don't like the humor" posts. The last thing you want to do as a game maker is try to appeal to the too-cool gamers. I think Insomniac learned that when EA put Fuse through the shitty VGmarket.com grinder.

Agreed. Stick with your vision!
