Street Fighter 3 still worth picking up?

not as crazy as the parried chun-li, but here are some more amazing hugos:

YSB (one of the best with Hugo) with a crazy comeback: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZS6ZFNH7s7E

The buffered standing Gigas is dope. I've pulled it off a few times--it's worked best for me when I crossup w/ the his splash then land close w/ a standing LK. I buffer the 1st 360 in that LK and after that it's Gigas time.

I once buffered it in Hugo's taunt. I knocked some dude down and hovered over him on purpose and taunted--I timed it so the taunt would be done right as he was recovering and of course he tried to attack me and instead ate a Gigas. The whole sequence looked so fucked up. The kind of shit that just demoralizes a person.

Hugo is good for that. :D

Watch videos with Aruka (Ibuki player) in them.
Aruka is a joy to watch (though often gets completely destroyed simply due to Ibuki doing next to no damage per hit).

I am also a huge fan of good Oro's (Thanatos, Hung B).

and of course, good Necro (Sugi, Pino)

check out this match... one of the best performances by a low-tier player i have ever seen (and an AMAZING finish): http://youtube.com/watch?v=cZ-6kz5LyiI

Interesting--is Hugo a tough match-up, generally, for Dudley? I only ask because I always seem to do well against Dudley's online. My biggest comeback would be parrying Ken's flaming Shoryuken, one that was coming off his wake-up since I had knocked him down. I purposely baited it out by standing close to him and after that it was Gigas City. I think I was down to my last sliver IIRC and had to parry otherwise it was death.
I think its a 6-4 matchup in Dudley's favour. I've had many awesome "parry or I'm dead" moments, but luckily people online are mostly predictable when you're in that situation.

A successful walk-in Gigas is one of the best feelings in the world. Not only does it look cool, its hard to see coming and works a LOT.

LOL at the 3rd Strike Balance comments. So you're saying Yun/Chun aren't still dominating the Japanese/US tourneys? People say Alpha 3 is the most imbalanced SF game but there are more tourney viable chars in that game (even by percentage) than in 3rd strike. Just Because RX/Ruu/Mountains of new Yang players CAN win doesn't mean the chars are equal just that they are so much better than the competition

Parry just lets the rich get richer

You have to consider your audience here. Most people dont go/care about tournies, and the amount of work it takes to get that good with Chun/Yun is ridiculous anyway. I think to the average fan 3s is pretty balanced.

Completely correct.

Is there such a thing as good Sean players?

Nope!

Alright! Thanks to this thread, I bought the game. I'm an awesome Akuma player on SFA3, who should I start play as in 3s? I'm awating answers!

I've seen good players pick Sean for fun. You CAN do well with him, he's just worse then everyone else in the game.

The game isn't balanced BUT picking a lower tier is not a death sentence. I've seen Makoto, Dudley, even Ibuki win some Japanese ranking battle tourneys.

At mid level, this game is extremely balanced.

Anyway, since nobody mentioned it, if you don't have a stick, buy one for your console of choice.

Get 3S in some form, or better yet play it in the arcade. No excuse not to.

Drop the shotos entirely. Learn someone completely new who would probably feel alien to you considering her style.

Makoto.

Dresses like a shoto, plays nothing like them. Word.

Alright, impressions after a couple of hours.

Holy shit, this is the best fighting game ever created.
Holy shit, Akuma is really not as overpowered as he was in Alpha 3.
Holy shit, I still don't know who to start practicing with. I find Ken, Ryu, Chun Li and Akuma quite boring :(

By that logic, every fighting game is unbalanced because every fighting game ever that is played competitively in tournaments is dominated by people using the same top-tier characters.

I want to fucking kill Gill so hard... he's even harder than Jimpachi!

Absolutely, and if you get the collection on the original xbox, not only does it work on the 360, but it also still supports Xbox Live!

No way. Gill is a pussy compared to the cheapness of Jinpachi, especially once you get his retard version after you lose once or twice

I'll tell you this:

For all my Street Fighter life, I've been a Ryu guy. He was my main man, I loved him and I used him non-stop. Sure, I used other people and used them well, but in the end, no matter the Street Fighter I was playing, I always went back to Ryu.

And then came 3rd Strike. After countless hours and rounds, I have yet to play a single round with Ryu. Actually, wait, I did use him for a second right in the beginning but then I saw my girl Makoto and never looked back.

Now I can't stand shotos. They're boring as hell to me. Whenever I start beating someone badly with Hugo, I count down the seconds until they whip out Ken.

Even now, when I play older SF's, I always gravitate towards "different" playing characters--which is why I hope and pray Capcom will bring back Karin from Alpha 3.

All the shotos are a lot of fun once you understand how they work.

Here are some fun combos with them..

Ryu: S. FP- > EX Joudan Kick -> Jump up twarods them -> EX Hurricaine mid air..

Ken: S. MP -> S.FP (chain) -> Jab Dragon

Akuma: c. mk -> light hurricaine -> jab reset -> SAI

Ken dosent have a lot of "fun" combos I guess like the other two but at a higher level you can do some dope shit like c. mk -> jab dragon -> kara jab dragon. oohhhh noo.. takes off as much as a super. :lol

If you're looking for something different, you may want to try Dudley or Urien. Both fun.. Yang is great too.

spend a lot of time not worrying about winning, but trying to master the parrying system. Once you have that down, you can approach the game system more completely, and have a lot of fun with it.

How I generally do parrying is imagine I am the other character, and simply tap into the attack when I think I would execute it. That rule seems to work pretty well. You will also become pretty tuned with the timing and playing styles of other players this way.

I would worry more about proper blocking than parrying. There is nothing worse than missing a parry and getting EX'd or Super Art'd. It happened to me last night. :(

Bring her to SF4. i'll buy 3 Copies of the game

...3 Special editions btw, the $100 version that comes with Ryu's head

Ten bucks will get her and two other characters that you wont bother playing as when they start releasing the character pack downloads. :D

ehhhh..... parrying isnt as crucial as you may think it is..

You mental, Jinpachi is basic pattern recognition and stupid A.I. Gill is constant onslaught of overpowered fierce low kicks and overheads, then when you finally beat him he goes and regens himself!

That said as much as I love 3S I'm absolutely terrible at it, my game revolves around Ken hurricane kick combos and attempting to mash out comboed supers with a sticky M. kick button.

As much as I hate on 3s...its fun as hell even though the mechanics are broken.

Dudley may be the most interesting SF character I've seen in a long time

I have a love/hate relationship with the game too. Its so hard to be consistent in the game. Some days i'm on fire, other days I cant win no matter how hard I try. :lol

Gill is too repetitive to be that hard. Once you figure out that he'll do a quick attack EVERY TIME he wakes up unless he has something to block, he becomes a breeze. Every time you knock him down, wait till EXACTLY when he gets up and do an invulnerable attack (a super, Ken's fierce shoryuken, etc). Once you get the timing right, he falls for it every time.

Easiest person to beat the game is Ken, second is Necro because Gill will almost always eat his Electric Snake super, especially after he blocks some of his swinging blows. Gill blocks high for a super that hits low.

Ryu and Akuma are definitely not boring. Ken and Chun are to some extent, as they're turtle/punish style players and you don't need to get too creative with them.

If you like I could make a short tutorial video for Akuma. He's definitely one of the most fun to use characters in the game.
