Street Fighter 4 for 3DS

Livingskeletons

If I pulled that off, would you die?
The previous threads about Street Fighter 4 got me interested in this game.

Is it a solid port?

The game looks impressive but are their framerate or technical issues of any kind?

Most importantly is it the Street Fighter experience on a handheld?

It was a solid port... at the time... but by now it's just so outdated I can't possibly suggest thinking about it. Weird because I think is like the most successful launch game?

It's an impressive port, I think full 60 with 3D off 30 on, but playing a 6 button game with four face buttons works about as well as it does everywhere else. Touch screen macros can make that a bit easier.

Awesome port, actually.

Missing background animation, though.

If that doesn't bother you then go for it. Online is still pretty active too.

I mean, I wouldn't play it anymore. It's been outdated in mechanics by at least two different versions.

But yeah it's a good port.

Yeah it's Street Fighter on a handheld. Control compromises are the biggest issue.

If I recall, turning the 3D kills the frame rate, so keep that slider down

You haven't lived until you've fought a Guile who can walk forward and fire off Sonic Booms while doing so. Also Insta-Flash Kicks.
Fuck.

It's fine, except it's stuck in Super forever. No Ultra or Arcade Edition. Runs at 60fps if you turn the 3D off in the options. (Just lowering the slider won't do it.)

It's the best version of this game you're going to get on a handheld/mobile device.

One of my most played 3DS games, though now it's obsolete to the point where I don't bother with it. Barring a feature-complete Vita version (which I can't believe never became a thing), it's the best way to play SF4 on-the-go.

Breaks my heart that we never got a roster/rules update or a patch to support the Circle Pad Pro (and by extension, the n3DS') extra buttons.

It is pretty good. I only stopped playing it because 1. I have no hopes of getting good in SF 2. I have the game on Steam and 3. I am paranoid over ruining my 3DS controls.

Aside from the issues mentioned, it also doesn't have the character-specific music option, you can only use the stage themes. It plays the character themes during rival battles so I have no idea why they didn't include the option.

I Sonic Boomed the rubber off of my Circle Pad just last week. :(

Great port, but becareful because Charge Characters and Guile more so don't need to charge so if he was a wall before he is now the ultimate turtle.

I'd love a USF4 update or separate release. Maybe even n3ds support.

Might be a chance of that happening if Ryu is in SSB..

Together with Dead or Alive: Dimensions the best traditional 2D Fighting Game on the 3DS. Redeemed the launch period of the 3DS for me :D

SFIV was the only big launch game the 3DS had. The gameplay was tight, barring having to use 3DS/touchscreen controls, and everything but the aforementioned backgrounds was solid. IIRC, it even had the animated cutscenes! Plus, surprisingly, it still has an active community.

The only major downside, in my opinion, is that it never got anything for the Arcade Edition or Ultra, despite doing just as well as the other versions.

Now that the n3DS has more juice, Capcom should bring Ultra to it. The 3DS has a pretty sizeable share of the market in Japan and it would probably do well in the West too.

You need to manually disable the 3D in the settings for the framerate boost. It's not an immediate on the fly setting like in Dead or Alive Dimensions.

It's such a fantastic port with a full online system that gets completely ruined by the "Auto-Block" feature. Might as well just have a toggle for "Cheat? Yes/No." It's supposed to be a crutch for new players to figure out the game without feeling like they're constantly being knocked to their ass,but you see completely competent players use it all the time online because it's just *such* an unfair advantage.

I actually *like* the touch screen special shortcuts - they make playing the game on a handheld more fun and probably keep a lot of people from destroying their circle pad doing more complex inputs, but the Auto-Block is just absolutely toxic.

Imagine any character having constant, passive, automatic super armor.

Guile with Touch Screen Shortcuts and Auto-Block is like the fighting game version of getting kicked in the dick over and over again.

It's identical to the console version of super street fighter 4 but the issue with it is that it's severely outdated. That being said I still played the hell out of it. It was basically training mode the game for me which suited it being on the go.

It's a surprisingly good port and I had a lot of fun with it online at launch. Put over 200 hours into it.

The only caveat is touch screen Sonic Booms.

It sounds strange, but the game actually works very well at 30fps. Aside from the lack of background animation, the graphics look very nice too.

You can opt to play "no shortcuts" mode online, AFAIK.

What if I said...I was touch screen Guile.

If you don't mind the static backgrounds or the lack of version parity with SF4 on other platforms, the 3DS version is quite playable. I spent a lot of time just fooling around with various characters in the training mode. That's with the caveat that the Circle Pad is not really designed to withstand the intensity of movement that SF4 requires. It works for a game like Smash that only requires you to work in four directions, but the diagonal or rotary motions of the Street Fighter series will quickly have you scrambling to set up the touch screen for one-touch special moves, and any serious combo mastery is probably out of the question.

The auto-block is indeed rather terrible in online play, and unfortunately, last I checked, you aren't going to have much luck finding a match without it. One-touch specials also give charge-based characters an overwhelming advantage.

This isn't true at all.

It did very well, in fact it was 3DS first major seller and it had a very alive community for a good while after launch.
Not so sure about that. It has shipped one million, yes, but it's 10 bucks or something, meaning retail sits on a lot of them.

Also, people play with the circle pad?

It didn't move all at full Price, but even Capcom and Nintendo mentioned how well it performed and how it compared to the launch line up, so it did sell very well.
