Street Fighter V Beta Thread: Welcome, future '16ers! (Currently Inactive!)

I just fought Afrocole! Well, at least I think it was him. Dude had the highest rank I've seen so far.

As a Claw player, Bison's df FP to cr MP feels so familiar. Almost deja vu levels.

Also, I'm realizing how terrible I am at this game. Doing decently against someone attempting to "play street fighter", and getting blown up by flow chart Ryus. Back to basics. I should try to win with only buttons and specials for the time being.

YES. Bison do feels a lot like SFIV Vega, I love it. But If they don't touch anything the only downside Bison has are the cross-ups, if we can figure out a good way to deal with them (other han blocking, of course)...

Flow chart Ryus can be destroyed with the V-Skill and dem buttons. Bison's buttons are SO good.

Nah, macros just ain't my style, makes me feel icky. I'll take my lumps for now with the belief that there will be Hell to pay once my stick rolls in.

You hear that, Cammy's?? HELL TO PAY!!!

Even stick players use macros, especially tournament players. Why risk a match because of a silly button press?

So happy I got to play the game this time. Other than one or two matches the game ran very smoothly. I got my ass handed to me several times, including a couple of perfect rounds by the opponent, but that's cool. Part of the learning process. I would have liked to play characters other than Ryu, but the time I had in the sparring room was so short I didn't get to figure out the moves. Does Chun Li still have her fireball? Maybe they changed how you execute it. Anyway, I can't really complain that I was getting matches in 30 seconds but made it hard for me to practice.

Can you have the sparring dummy fight back in the full game? Seemed like it was stuck in still mode for beta.

gotta say, i'm pretty happy with the netcode.

most games ran smooth, which encourages me as someone whose days of having a bunch of bros over for local SF are behind me.

GGs guys. Trying to figure out how many points needed to get Beta World Warrior.

I think they still need to fix the whole ranking/title system thing. Because it's been very inconsistent with registering points to rank and levels. I reached Beta Grand Master title last night and I found out today that I was a Beta Test Fighter again lol, but I still had my points.

Activate V-Trigger, do a fierce headbutt and cancel super on the last hit. It's like Balrog's final turn-around punch into super in SFIV.

I'll have to try that but his EX v-trigger headbutt has won me a few matches. It's got armor for days and plows through stuff.

They really should adopt the VF5 ranking system. This feels so good not losing a ton of PP just because someone with less experience beats you.

Think I've had my fill though. I need Ken and the new build now. Hope Guile is in. Also Cammy is really fun, her and Charlie most mixup heavy characters but still feels honest and if you get DP happy or predictable will eat a lot of damage. Too many cammy players going for DP after a v-trigger cannon drill because ita safe on block. I punish with solar plex into super for the win!

Whoa, it seems like it's very different from IV... I will have to dig this tonight when I get home. Yesterday I was trying to change the behavior of CPU opponent to do some basic attacks while waiting for a match... Can we change this?

The changes in SFV are for the better, you'd be surprised how many people are relieved that FA is no more. Next to that, they ditched cr. tech throw and OS's.

Concerning the dummy, I think you can change some things but it's still very limited because it's an early build and a beta. Press L1/R1 when in the pause menu while in training mode.

Safe on block and yet punishable?

Oh, don't try it in a real match. Just do it in training mode. It almost does 700 points of damage and will take a Chun's health bar from full health down to her stun bar.

Please capcom nerf Birdie, has insane damage.

just stick on him like flies on shit.
He reminds me so much of my favorite character in SFxTekken, Jack-X.

Slow but far reaching normals, only his standing lk has decent start-up and gets in trouble when people put you under pressure from close range.

Played a bunch of matches so far...after seemingly 20 years of SF, I can't quite break the execution barrier to go from scrub destroyer to legit good player. I have yet to try anyone but Ryu in SFV beta though (spent maybe 5 minutes mashing around with Nash and Chun-Li, but no online fights) - the limited beta time makes me hesitant to lose time playing with anyone else.

Is there any way to have the dummy attack so I can practice using Ryu's Mind's Eye parry?

Huh. Never knew that. I'm old school though, play it as it was designed. But I can totally see tourney players making sure to eliminate the slim chance of error with so much on the line.

I also just prefer 6 buttons in general, anything above that is too busy for me. So for my Madcatz stick, the budget ones they released when they first started coming out, I actually copped those button stoppers just so I can only have a classic 6 button layout.

Been grandmaster for a while, but since I've got that status people are respecting me too much. I don't mind, I slowly build my v-gauge and walk them into the corner.

They're probably going to nerf damage or increase health by quite a bit before release. Games right now go super quick.

No, they surely won't increase health or reduce damage as it would be disastrous for high level play. You can't notice it, but SFV will end up being a defensive game once you see the pros play it (Maximilian was talking about this on his stream saturday night). It's going to be hard to open up someone who's going to be a master at it, which the pros will be. There isn't a lot of BS in the game, so rounds will end up taking quite bit of time even with the very high damage and stun output.

The damage output actually help at the lower level of play, if anything. It's watchable to see low - mid level players go at it since they can easily open up each other and matches go by quickly even if they fuck out their punish opportunities.

Not in the beta. The actual game is still a long ways away.

All that training mode stuff will be there, don't worry.

Yeah, kind of a bummer it isn't there in the current build, really wanted to test priority, how punishable certain things are and stuff.

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say Chun's V-trigger might be the best one currently imo. The frame advantage, multiple hits, and extra damage are nice, but the juggle properties it gives your normals are pretty nuts. Every anti-air can result in twice as much damage, air to air's can be extended, can combo into her CA off an anti-air(except back Roundhouse, wont connect there) and getting a juggle in the corner into multiple back Fierces builds up a lot of stun fast.
