Street Fighter V Beta Thread: Welcome, future '16ers! (Currently Inactive!)

Well he is basically Frankenstein's Monster... so..?? He's the only newer redesign I like so far. Don't care much for Birdie.
More like...natural born monsters. Creatures.

Bison actually makes me very happy. He's a villain, fights using supernatural powers, has the kind of patience game I like to play, and looks like he is possessed. He has a very demonic feel to him. Necalli is okay - I'll try him out. Zero interest in Nash. I can't stand ugly.

Man, yesterday a Ryu with a fuckton of points completely obliterated me, he even got a perfect lol

On the upside I perfect'd a button happy Chun. sogood.gif

Bison really needs something other than the CA for getting out of the corner. As Vega I always could backdash/forward dash or even Ultra2 (I've used Ultra2 for getting out of the corner thousands of times), but other than the slide I don't see any move for getting out. Maybe the teleport, but you need V-Trigger first :S

I dont know if it just the people I'm getting but I've played so many matches where they would just start walking themselves int the corner as soon as the round starts then try to jump over you and start walking the other way.

Edit: And I just played this dude that didnt know you could block.

Ha ha just fought gootecks and beat him

I just (barely) beat Max, but considering it was like 4-5 am for him (and based on how hard he kicked my ass the last time it matched us), I'm guessing he was tired. He did some wacko Nash teleport combo on me that I've never seen, but missed the super cancel which gave me the round.

Gootecks said that Chun lost her st.mp cr.mk link in the new build. I guess they want her to just not have any confirms without counterhit or jabs or something.

Went around 50-3 yesterday. Got absolutely demolished by a rank 4 Nash & Chun, then lost to a laggy Birdie.

I try to learn from every high ranked Nash player I go against and have fun really funny gimmicks.

His heavy face palm grab is an overhead, so you throw a slow Sonic Boom and if you see them crouch blocking - get grabbed, if they try to punish there's still a Sonic boom on the way. Doesn't work every time.. or more than once on a good player, but it can catch people off guard.

Also his V-Trigger has snatched so many W's when I was close to losing. A bit yolo, but I did have a high success rate with it. Good players will just jump over it if they think I'm just going to teleport behind them. Lot's of tricky setups with it though. Throw a medium Sonic boom; teleport behind them, overhead, Sonic boom hits from the back, cr.HP etc etc.

I also really liked Nash's AA's. Very reliable for the most part.

Crush counter setups with heavy SB are viable. Heavy sonic boom in general is very good because of how slow it moves and you can follow behind it, walk up to the opponent and do an overhead, or low, or cross up.

Grabs in this game feel very wonky. I think they still need fixing, the range on them are very awful. I'm fine with soft knockdowns.

Also, how do you quick rise? I know I can press down on the stick, but I don't think pressing two buttons on knockdown works in this game?

I see a lot of Nash players do that. Throw a few booms, if they crouch block them, do the face palm move. If they stand block, dash up and do a low. It works on me quite a bit.

I tap down when I hit the ground. It's ingrained into my muscle memory so I don't know if anything else works.

There are 2 ways to quick rise.

stand straight up: 2 punch buttons, or down on the stick
roll back quickly: 2 kick buttons, or back on the stick

do either one as you are hitting the ground.

Hey guys what should be the name of our SFV GaF community? We have to level everyone up by the time the game comes out.

Also for my Ryu players use standing Lk. Its amazing!

Instead, he throws out jabs. The jabs make people think he is throwing a Hadoken; if they are going to jump to counter a Hadoken, the jab will sometimes trick them into it. After some jabs, he throws a Hadoken. It's all about playing up your unpredictability.
Jabs can also mask the Hadoken input or you can fake a Hadoken input.

The basic Ryu spacing game is Hadoken + c.HP. Shoryuken works as an anti-air, too, but c.HP is generally better because it recovers faster so you can pressure off of the hit.
When you are closer to your opponent you an also use cr.mk/st.lk into Hadoken to push the opponent back and deal chip damage. Hadoken itself is not safe in point blank and if the opponent is too close maybe even cr.mk/st.lk don't do enough push back to make it safe. In that situation you can use one or two st.lp to push them further away first.

Practice parrying other projectiles; get that V-meter.
You also have to be careful when wanting to parry slow projectiles, especially full screen, since the opponent can dash in pretty fast.

Don't jump in and attack unless it will cross up. Practice cross-ups with j.MK.
You can jump, but it shouldn't be obvious otherwise people will just wait for you hit you from the air. There are even times where you don't need to jump in at all to win.
Mix up jabs and throws.
I.e. do a light punch and then walk in to throw, iirc it's a pretty old strategy called tick throw. It's a little mindgame. When people get trained into trying to break your throw you just throw another lp to hit the opponent, since he then has to decide between blocking and breaking a throw. In short, hit him when he expects a throw and throw him when he expects an attack and tries to block.

Well shoot. Guess I'll stick with Ultra and maybe try to get SF2 on my Wii U

I would recommend Fightcade for your SF2 needs. It has online lobby system and quite good netcode with ggpo. There are going to be some hardcore players around though, so be ready to lose a lot until you get the fundamentals and spacing down.

I have no way of getting fightcade :(

Ah speaking of which did anyone get to use the fighting commander 4 in sf5 yet? My controller is coming today but of course the beta has ended lol

I've been using it with the stress and beta tests. Not really a fan of this pad -just don't feel like I can pull off stuff as accurately as I can with the Mad Catz SFxTK pads- and am glad to see that Mad Catz has their own pad coming.

Really? Need a fightpad for this...link?

I used the guts of a FC4 to mode my Xbox One TE2, so I could use it for the SF5 beta.

The game feels SSSSOOOO much better with a stick. The first botched "phase 1" i played with the DS4 and wow was that painful. It made me immediately find out what I had to do to dual mode my TE2 and thankfully there was a pretty simple way to do so.

It is going to depressing when all the combos we learn are taken out of later builds. I fear the combo potential is dwindling already...
it is, but I think Capcom is changing stuff up. Gamescon build some people thought it looked even slower, and they took out lights --> medium links. Also, there's still the hitbox issues and people adjusting to throw ranges. I think more stuff will be found out though, the beta is a pretty bare-bones version.

I did. Last night's farewell marathon made my left thumb hurt :)

Do you have any specific question about it?

Was wondering how good it felt. I love to hear impressions from those that used it. I liked using the PS3 model for sf4 and was wondering it worked well for 5

Ah thanks for the impressions

R.I.P. Street Fighter V Phase 1 Beta

How long until we get Phase 2, & do you guys think we'll get everyone announced up to that point?

Guys. I just went back to Alpha 2 on Fightcade. I couldn't believe how similar it felt to V. The game speed (Turbo 2), the basic and powerful normals. Bison's style. SFV is Alpha reborn.

Awesome can't wait to use it in the next beta.

Random thought but man seeing some of you guys and others play street fighter at such efficient levels is really impressive to me since this game has such a high learning curve.

Got mine today. Definitely an improvement.

I wish I could've used it the last day of the Beta.

Supposedly it's plug and play with Windows.

Man, I'm really aching to play more. Figured out that during V-Trigger Bison can combo into light scissors and cancel it into his CA, both in the corner and out. (Normally it cause him to be pushed out/away and misses.) Probably something that was already known, but it was something I stumbled upon on my own late last night right before bed, and I didn't get to play around with much.

Can't wait for the next one.
