The ink effects are some of my favorite visual designs in this game. I really like that everyone has their own color/colors, it works well and looks nice. Def wouldn't call it lazy.
I like her default best.
Yeah, I dunno you have stuff like Chun's looking more like water and stuff like that. I like the ink effect and that it's individualized. Out of all the little things I have with the art direction the ink stuff isn't one of them.
Except for the "the characters kinda look like clay" aspect, it's just not rooted in anything here, or at least not much. It was awesome how IV had the whole ink effect, as if they were hinting at the 2D origins of their now 3D-modeled series. The intro solidified the look, and the focus attacks on start and hit and such emphasized it. It was awesome how it actually effected the hit target for a second too. It was a theme that helped solidify the game's effect style.
I guess my disappointment with how it's been carried out stems from the fact we all thought it'd really mean something when the game was first revealed. Like characters would each have elements they'd tap into, and the effects would be a visual power-up that ties into the attack element. Instead of just being "colored paint blobs", they'd have been after-effects of wind, fire, earth, water, lightning, etc. So instead of Guile having blobs around him as he combs his hair, you'd have his mastery of wind / creating sonic booms showing off from the moment he spins his comb (causing sonic ripples in the air), and then his "sweeps" of the comb through his hair could super-straighten it, tossing about a sheering wind element, explaining his ridiculous
haircut.
Maybe "lazy" is a bit strong, but it just feels like a weaker version of something that should be more deeply rooted.
The default color is so damn good, which is great because of how often people end up using it in tournaments.
Yeah, this is definitely good. Now we just have to hope she's solid enough, and lacking in glitches, to actually make people WANT to use her in tourneys!
I've enjoyed the ABI-GAAAAIL upsets I've seen on streams, hopefully she can provide similar incentives for play in her early days.
