Yeah, I doubt we'll get any pertinent info from a pic of a bag. Ono's just getting ready.
All we've got right now is a pic of Ryu blocking an unknown attack; the effect doesn't resemble anything we've seen before.
My first thought was that the effect kinda looks like wind or snow. I immediately recalled the billboard in the Union Station stage
Not a whole lot to work with, but seems reasonable to me. It could be a new attack (or a new effect for an old attack) of a returning character, but then it could be just about anybody, so that goes nowhere.
I'm not criticizing you for discussing this, I'm only saying I find the topic amusing based on the nature of some of these posts.
I also figure the last few weeks of the year (Hannukah, Christmas, New Years) are a deadzone that they don't want any reveal anything during. Thanksgiving might be a bad time too. There isn't actually that much time left in the year.
Really? I dunno the Smash 4 trailers were insane hype. What's been good here is that after a character is revealed, there is a decently extensive write-up or demonstration about them and they are often playable to the public - that is something SFV has that Smash 4 didn't.

Well modern day North Africans are mostly (brown) Arab. Not necessarily ethnically but culturally.
Only Sudan (if you consider it North African, I do) is predominantly black (while still Arab).

Actually someone might have a good point that those names could have changed over the time in the development. There is no way that we would know until we get one more newcomer trailer to realize that the names have been changed.

Tekken's Shaheen is based on Gulf region arabs. Due to this the character's gotten lot of appeal or interest over here.
If SF's new character is arab I wonder if he'd be based off Gulf region or not.

Thing is Ken Bogard is French, and Rachid is how French-speaking people would write the name.
All in all though I do hope he'll be an impressing character.

I just want to be happier that the character is in than I would be if the character weren't in. If Capcom can accomplish that, it's all good. So far, only Vega is a disappointment.

Really hope the new character is North African. Although, I would laugh my ass of if he is North African, but dyes his hair blonde due to some backstory bullshit.

I thought the alternate color will only work when using the same character? Ryu is in his alt blue clothes which means he's just fighting another Ryu?

I just have a limit on how many returning characters there can be before it turns me off. If Vega was revealed first, I might have felt differently. It is true that, for me, Cammy is a "core character" like Bison, Ryu, and Chun-li, though. Cammy feels pretty dull this time around, though. Her and Chun-li needs to be changed up a bit.

Maybe they're tying some new characters to the SF3 story. Urien/Gill had stages in Mexico and Egypt. Necalli is of aztec origin so that ties him to the Mexican region, and Egypt is in North Africa.

Speaking strictly character, not gameplay wise, Vega and Cammy and bottom of the list for me. One Shadaloo memeber, and 1 justice female fighter is enough in a 16 character starting roster.
The rest should have been filled with SF3 characters like Oro and Urien, and Alpha characters like Cody.
If he is Egyptian, they better not use the Ancient Egyptian warrior trope. I want a modern fighter.
Although, someone with an appearance like Shadi from Yugioh would be kinda cool.
Hopefully you'll be able to pick your colors in the full game

It's from Alpha 3 MAX apparently.Alpha 3 would take place when they were lik 6 years old though
If anything either that is one of the new characters, or a character that'll be part of the 2nd wave/Season 2.

Combofiend said it's not possible but that was back from Nash's reveal and I don't have beta so I'm really sure now.

Looks like the wind effect is probably Ryu blocking Rufus' EX Galactic Tornado.
Note that I didn't list the names accounting for that possibility. Also, we know for a fact that Necalli wasn't one of the leaked 3 newcomers since he's not from either North Africa, India, or Brazil.

It was more blind optimism than a joke; Rufus is my favourite Street Fighter character and I'd love to have him back.
I do expect it to be a newcomer, though.
I meant Arabic/Middle Eastern. Is it not the same?

Well we have different cultures:
Gulf culture has some differences to say Egyptian culture, and even to North African Arabian culture.
I don't want to see that character ever again. I don't think anyone's a Rufus fan except for the EG players.
